Interesting story driven game!

The controls are simple to get used quickly, and the usage of the art assets was quite nice.

However, I found that it should have feedback sounds during the playthrough, like a voice which is saying the sentences. By adding feedback sounds, I think that it will improve a lot the ambiance of your game.

Overall, nice job!

I'll try doing that in the future.

After the voting period ends, i will be updating this game accordingly, eg. darkened grass, less cryptic story, changing the font to one with less flourish, etc. Can't wait for the next game jam! Thank you all who played my game :D

Very simple game man^^

Dunno if the story is real, if so hope you get conclusion^^.

Love how you portray personal feeling in the game. there's alot of heart into it.
For me this is more interesting than alot of polished stuff.

Font added alot to the game also!

Good game even if it was simple it was fun.

Glad you enjoyed it! There are some small stuff i need to fix, after the voting period ends. And the story has nothing to do with my personal life.

There are quite a few things one can improve in this game.

1) Make the color for the ground a lot darker. The main character normally should never blend with background.
2) Imho the font has too much flourish to it, making it hard to read sometimes.
3) Music, while not being bad, could be improved. Mb find a nice heavy piano soundtrack and use that?
4) A few places where the text is a bit off - in a game where the main attraction is the text, this just should not happen
a) "I" should be always capitalized (in one phase it isn't)
b) "am I even existing?" should have been "Do I even exist?"
5) The gliding movement of the character felt quite boring, mb add a slight waddle effect to the sprite to make it look like it is actually walking.
6) The ending came a bit too early imho. I liked those frozen in time scenes from the past life of the main character, having more of those / increasing the narrative part of the game would benefit it greatly.
7) Also an IMHO - delete the "WASD to move" at the start, it feels very much out of place. Alternatively, move the first line of the narrative into a separate room.

Basically, a bit of polish here and there and all over the place can improve the game quality quite a bit.

This was really detailed, Thanks!  when the voting ends i will update the game accordingly :D

It's a bit rough around the edges, but I understand that it's a more story driven game. Some things I would consider improving would be:

* The font doesn't match the rest of the game, making it being out of place.
* Slow paced, but that's not an issue by itself.
* Lack of sound effects. I thing they would bring a lot to the ambience (like grass sounds while walking and maybe a car crash at that scene).
* The final text is quite boring, walking in a straight long line. I think making it shorter, but with the text appearing and vanishing, would bring more impact.

But don't stress too much about it. It's well worth the effort as long as it was a good learning experience to you.

Thanks! It was pretty fun making this game, of course i procrastinated so this game could of been better.

The gameplay itself wasn't very engaging, but I did find myself trying quite hard to piece together what happened to this man, so I was somewhat engaged by the story. More environmental storytelling and a bit snappier pacing in the beginning and I think this would be a pretty damn good story game.
I actually liked the pacing at the end, it felt like the slow crawl towards a second chance very much mirrored what the man went through in finding his own redemption for whatever happened (I'm still not 100% clear on the story, my best guess is some sort of drunk driving incident that he couldn't forgive himself for), but despite the shortcomings in the game, I still enjoyed my time with it!

Thanks! Yeah i tried making the story less cryptic, there is some things here and there i wish i added. And as far as i know i can't edit the game and add any more, according to the rules. And when it comes to the story, you pretty much figured it out :)

I think this game was made just to tell a story which I love in games even though I was only moving when I got a second chance it really made me smile :)

Thanks for the kind words!

Game is story based but it's not very engaging. I think you should work  on gameplay first. After you're done with some basic mechanics you can add a story. You could figure out some interesting things with ghost concept that would be great with that story. Next time try making dialogue boxes (not spreading text across the map). It would add some more dynamic to your game. Keep on trying and next games will be better.

Will try better next time. Thanks!

Don't need to try better. Just try. Knowing how-to TileMaps would let you do your map faster and you would spend more time on gameplay. Expand your skills. Get some knowledge and it will come naturally.

It seems like you are not very experienced in game development yet , but thats no problem , just keep trying and challenge yourself to get better .

the atmosphere in the game is not that bad , the music is fitting and it isn't confusing to navigate nor is it unappealing to look at

keep on trying : )

Thank you!

I like the approach. It's more of an experimental story-driven narrative. Like a 2D walking simulator.

But it felt very empty and the pacing was very slow. The font didn't quite match the style of the tilesheet.

Maybe have the text fade in and out depending on how far away the player is? A little bit of animation would also improve the walking. The music was strangely fitting.

Thanks for the feedback! The game was made in 48hrs, and this was my first game. So of course it was going to be s***. But thanks for your kind words! Means a lot to me!

Keep it up! It's never s*** - it's always a fun learning experience :D

Thanks! Indeed it is!
