I liked the visuals and the music, and the platforming was fairly solid with a nice progression of difficulty. There are two things I think are worth pointing out:

When the player is mostly going to the right or left, (for example during most of the platforming sections), it's better to lock the camera at a neutral height rather than have it move up and down with the player, which can get disorienting.

The boss's attack where spikes come up from the ground gives no sign of what's about to happen. The player has no way to know that spikes will come up when the boss lands, and that leads to taking a hit in a way that feels very cheap. It would be good to give some form of visual forewarning.

Still, all in all, great game!

Great game! I enjoyed playing it and I think all important aspect of a good game was there. Challenge level was appropriate. I beat the game with my second attempt. The game flowed naturally, it was clear what the player should be doing and new enemy types kept the levels fresh so the game didn't felt repetitive at all.

This game looks really awesome, I will put a screenshot as my background. xD The level design and enemies are really great and I also agree there should be some checkpoints in the game. Really great take on the theme, and overall a fantastic game!

Loved the style, and jumping on the enemies was satisfying! I was bummed I had to start all the way over, so maybe checkpoints would have been cool, but a fun game! I had a love-hate relationship with having to build up speed on the ground before jumping, but it felt perfectly fine, just took some getting used to!

I really liked the visuals of this game, it was not only pleasing to look at but also very apparent what to do! Really good job!

this was pretty fun. really liked the design of the square. died right by the end and had to start over from the beginning, which was a bit of a bummer, but other then that it war really fun!

The game is very good ! However, I don't like the controller mapping. Y for jumping isn't very intuitive.

I didn't even know it worked with a controller TBH, I guess Unity's input manager does that. I'll have to keep it in mind for my next game. Thanks for playing.

Good job! :D

I think the game has nice aesthetics and I really like the variation in the enemies and obstacles. The game feels polished with nice particle effects and sound effects.

When I was at the last level I died, and I had to move back to the start, which felt a bit bad. I think if you want the game to still be challenging you could decrease the health slightly and have check point after each curage you collect. But apart from that I think you did a good job.

Really good aesthetics, simply but awesome!. Level design could be polished but nice game!

Amazing game! The concept was awesome, music was chill, the SFX was just right. The the postprocessing effects and glow you added into the game really made it pop! The movements were especially nice as well and I loved the bouncing animations and faces the cube made. Unlocking courage to be able to venture to different areas was a really nice take on the theme and the way you executed it was nice.

The only bug I found so far was my player got stuck in between the beams that shoot upwards and I couldn't jump at all, which led to my death sadly.

But, overall, this was an amazing game entry!

I did notice that bug, but forgot to fix it. Oops. Anyways glad you enjoyed it, thanks for playing

Nice game! I especially liked the level design and graphics a lot. Also the idea that you unlock the sections with the courage points is nice.

I found the game a bit hard and punishing though. The first two levels were relatively easy, but it took me some time to realize that you can hold space for higher jumps(even though that's for most platformers). Also it feels like the player decellerates too fast when letting go of the arrow keys. Maybe just a matter of preference though.

The 3rd and 4th levels were much harder though, and took me multiple tries to beat. I wouldn't mind trying them multiple times but resetting the whole game because you die is boring, since the first two levels are so easy. After half and hour I managed to reach the bossfight but died, and can't bring myself to play through the whole game again.

So in conclusion the single improvement for this game imho is to add checkpoints when you die before the level/courage sections of the game. Everything else was superb though! So much attention to detail, like having the turrets indicate when they fire, or the character looking happy when collecting courage shard. I enjoyed the game very much!

Developer

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I agree it needs checkpoints. Glad you liked it

Seemingly simple, but with careful animation and effective use of light effects. Good job!
