First of all, what a nice color palette! It's so simple yet so harmonized, I love it! The concept is super cool. I love the fact that you didn't just reset the little character to start and instead made him just pop out of the big robot, it brings a super interesting game mechanic!

I had a few bugs trying to stuck my character in the saws but normally after a two or three try I was able to get it

You made a wonderful game and can be proud of, good job!

Thank you! I found a colour palette on lospec and changed it a bit. I really liked the game idea - I wasn’t sure if it would work but I’m glad it did (with a few hiccups). The game is not as polished as I would like (hence no time delay between controlling robots) and there are probably a load of bugs. I really appreciate you playing and also leaving feedback!! ^^

that was epic, it was a bit hard but great over all

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I felt the difficulty curve was kinda off as well. I really appreciate the kind words!! ^^

I like the game! quiet enjoyable, i did find it very difficult also, took me a second to get the hang (died like 4 times in the first level) then after that, it went smoothly. except one level , dont remember which one, i knew exactly what to do, i just kept dieing, especially on those ones where you have to move ur robot to the side to die, because once that happens, your 2nd character moves and dies also, soo.. it was quiet difficult.. for me, i would have made the little character make an "appearance" and not be able to move for a second to solve that issue, but... thats just one persons opinion. haha. but other then that. i did enjoy the game! really like the graphics also.

Developer

Thank you! Sorry about that, I had to cut a tutorial because of time. That’s the biggest problem with this game, I really need to add features like a wait time if I do things like this in the future - it’s frustrating and kinda just bad design. I really appreciate you playing and leaving feedback!! ^^

This game is really hard that's my only critique. I'm not a fan of platformers, but this one nails the genre in the art and play style. The levels are just really difficult for the reasons noted by IIPrimy. I wish you could jump off the machine without dying, that would be fun IMO

Developer

I was worried about the difficulty curve while making the game. I wanted to add some more levels that were easier and then have the harder ones at the end, but I didn’t have enough time to make all the “easier levels” I wanted to. Yep, I really wish I had added that delay, that’s the main piece of feedback I have gotten. Thanks for leaving feedback!! :D

I actually enjoyed the difficulty, it tells me you know what you are doing. It would just be slightly less frustrating with tighter mechanics! XD

Really awesome entry! Very Great art, I love the palette! The platformer controller felt pretty good bar a few nitpicks, the levels were challenging and cool. Just a very solid entry all around.

Some minor things tho

- I think this was mentioned but yeah, jumping into a saw to immediately die since your holding in the direction of the saw was a bit annoying. Either stop the characters movement until they re-input the A/D key, or add i-frames after you blow up would be nice.
- Wasn't a huge fan of the music, maybe a longer loop or some more variance would be great, huge preference thing tho
- getting extra height of jump pads felt very clunky, I think I only got the height if I was holding Jump when I hit the pad, which led to weird maneuvers were I would jump on the the jump pad from above, or just hit the jump pad 3 times before doing the high jump. I think it would be nice if jump height was consistent on those pads.

But other than those few minor things, great work! Its hard to find much to criticize here, since the work is just very solid!

Developer

Thank you! The palette is one I found on lospec that I modified a bit to fit my needs. The player controller took a while to do (I wanted to add things like coyote time and jump buffering so it would feel good). I was a bit worried about the levels being too hard, but I’m glad you liked them!

Iframes/a movement delay would have been good, yes. Giving players an advantage like that is something that can make the game go from rage inducing to fun, and I’ve made a note of that for future projects.

Music is my weakest area, so I’ll try improve for future jams.

I agree, the jump pads were not at all as polished as I wanted them to be. I wanted to go for a similar thing to what’s in celeste with the whole holding space thing, but I didn’t have enough time to fully polish it.

I really appreciate you leaving feedback! Constructive criticism is exactly what I wanted from this jam so I can improve, so ty for taking time to both play the game and leave a comment!! :D

Thanks for the game, was fun and well put together. Great use of the mechanics and theme. The only feedback I would have, as others have said, would be to have a wait time or manual ejection after death to prevent unwanted deaths.

Developer

Thanks for playing ^^!! I’m really glad you liked the game. I think next time I need to do some play testing with other people to highlight issues like that one. I knew about it but I didn’t realise how big of an issue it was. I really appreciate you leaving feedback! :D

Great aesthetic appeal. Annoying and loud music after 100 loops.

Mainly I would fix two things:

1. Take away the rounded edges from platforms
2. Enforce a half second wait time before being able to move the head after the body dies.

Those two problems put together were very frustrating.

Thank you! Music is my weakest ability, and I agree it can get very annoying after it loops loads. I'll make sure to add volume sliders and stuff to future projects. Completely forgot to fix the platform colliders, you're totally right. Yep, I really should have added that. It can be very annoying when you walk into a saw by accident after the main robot body gets destroyed. I really appreciate you leaving feedback, this is seriously invaluable for future projects moving forwards! :D

Developer

Just watched the stream video of you playing the game.
I agree with basically everything you said, I can tell how frustrating the mechanics are, and I'll keep this in mind when designing games in future - the wait time is definitely needed.
The barely makeable jump is annoying, so I'll keep away from those.
I really appreciate everything you said in the stream (both positive and negative feedback!) and I've made note of everything for future games :)

exept that the jump-pads didnt work often,  it was a great Game.

Do they not bounce you at all or just not high enough? If you hold space down they bounce you higher (this is not at all clear enough in game since I had to cut a tutorial level because of time). Thanks for leaving feedback and I'm glad you liked the game! :D

This was pretty fun. I liked the art and the unique idea :)

Thank you for the nice words! :)

Really well presented! Nice colours and cute pixel animations. I really like the idea of having the two robots ^^ Maybe it was only me, but the camera sometimes was a bit juddery / laggy (4k resolution). Also I think it would make more sense to have the pistons that push you up have a pre-defined pushing force because I didn't figure out that holding space would also increase the piston's pushing force. Really great entry! We got some amazing games this jam :)

Developer

Thank you for the nice words!! The whole game is at a 320 x 180 resolution, which can make the camera kinda jittery since 1 pixel of movement is quite a big jump. I'm not entirely sure how to combat this but I'll do some research. Yeah, I was worried about people not understanding the hold space thing since I ran out of time for a "tutorial" esc thing. If you don't know about holding space they probably feel unintuitive so I'll definitely work on that for future projects. Ty for leaving feedback!! :D

You're welcome :D Make sure to give my game a try as well :)

It had just the right amount of challenge. The art style is top notch and I really liked the idea of using your bigger body as a platform to advance.

Everything about this is so satisfying, only issue is, when you walk and die, the head will probably also walk into it's doom - kinda annoying but adds to the challange, small delay would probably help. Love it!

Developer

Yes, that can be incredibly annoying at times. If I ever come back to this game I will add a small delay because I think it would improve it massively. Thank you for the feedback and kind words!!

Submitted(+1)

I really like the concept and pixel art. I think you should add a small pause to the smaller robot after the big robot dies, as I kept walking into the gears by accident. Other than that small thing, it's a very solid game!

Developer

Thank you! I agree, I found the same thing too while I was testing and I completely forgot about it until it was too late. I really appreciate the kind words !!

Pretty sure this is the the 1. Jam Game :D

The art is great and the colors are awesome, i really like the game overall tho i think some levels are a bit hard to beat.

Developer(+1)

I really appreciate you saying that ! :D
The art style for this is very much inspired by the banner on the jam page. I agree, I wanted it to be harder towards the end but I feel like I made it too hard (especially for a game jam game). I was just worried about it being too easy and the game only lasting like 30 seconds.

Well presented, fits the limitation, puzzles… all the ingredients. Congratulations!

Thank you for the nice words! :)
