How does the game fit into the theme?
It's a horror-ish game, you only get one sense: sight or hearing. Enemies react to the flashlight, so you cannot use it all the time, otherwise they make noises to help you move around. When flashlight is in use you cannot hear them though, hence the idea of having having only one sense [at a time].

Very cool idea to only be able to have one sense at a time. Also the sound setting in general works out really good! Had good fun wandering around in the mansion trying not to get caught!
The moths' SFX are truly terrifying, it does a fantastic job at immersing the player into this dark castle. The feeling I had when I finally got the key, rushing to the door, only to get killed after a few seconds was amazing. I really like the sort of learning mechanic : there is no hint nor any path to follow, you have to learn in order to find the key. I think this is on top. The only thing I disliked was the very small light around the player (the smaller one, just around the sprite). I think it'd be better if you either completely remove it or make it a transition to the bigger light. The death animations are a cool detail too. Great job!
Thank you π Itβs interesting to see the two reactions, some people liking the bare-bones, little-to-no-info, some hating getting lost. At least I know there is an audience for both now :)
Really clever interpretation of the theme. You did a great job with the horror aesthetic and vibe too! The lighting was spot on, and I thought the way the moths react to the light was really cool. There's a great opportunity for worldbuilding here. Couple points of feedback. I wish the cooldown on the flashlight was a bit clearer. Like a timer that shows when it will be ready again. I know there's an icon in the top corner, but maybe something that shows just how much time is left? Also, I wish there were a bit more hints as to where to go. I realize you don't want a mini map to ruin the immersion but more environmental hints would help. Amazing entry!
I actually really like this game, was hard to understand at first, but i got it the 2nd or third time around.
Good interpretation of the theme, but its very not clear what im supposed to do, and i frequently got lost.
This was a lot of fun to play. Getting strong Haunted House vibes, that was my favorite Atari game back in the day :)
I wonder if the moth-buzzing could be tuned in such a way to indicate their direction in addition to distance? Or maybe that would give away too much. You could def do stereo panning for horizontal, and maybe change the pitch for the verticalβ¦
The magic of gamedev, we're going back full circle all the way to Atari! :)
Yeah, there definitely needs to be more of a 3D (2D?) audio in there! It's a good idea, I will try what you suggested post-jam and see what it feels like, scripting audio is one of those things I know very little about so any hints like that are very useful.
Creative use of theme, wish you could fight back tho...
