Tricky! I really like the minimialist design and the way you used the hourglass to build the volcano. A fun play on all of the growing lava game themes out there. I think a little bit of me died when I realized I had to jump onto the one pixel platforms though...nice work!

the character was way too fast, but I enjoy me a good platformer. there is probably much more you can do with the theme but I enjoyed the game overall.

Developer

yes, I agree with the theme. I think if I could go back I would work on making a lava/obsidian tile set to use. I updated the player movement, if you get a chance to play I'd like to hear your opinions on it now!

it's better now

Ah a fellow man who enjoys making difficult games aha, Loved the aesthetics the pixel art was done really well :D and ofc what the others said with coyote time BUT great job I enjoyed it alot

Developer

Hey thanks for that! I tried to keep the art as simple as possible, hopefully my skills will increase in the future! Just added coyote time, double jumping and adjusted the players control. If you play again let me know what you think!

The controls definitely don't quite match the level design, I sometimes felt I'd have to press and release the button more quickly than is humanly possible in order to get to the tiny platforms. Other than that though, the idea is really neat and I like the presentation!

Cool little platformer, and the pre-requisite fits perfect in this game. Good job, only thing is the 1 pixel platform was killing me all the time XD, other then that great Job!

Tho jumping on the smallest tiles with very high speeds was a bit frustrating. I loved the way the timer is presented. Also cool music!

Gemoetry dash on steroids, too fast

Submitted(+1)

the movement is too fast making the platforming frustrating

The music goes hard!

Really like the concept, however I feel that the puzzle gets a little too hard too soon? (could be a skill issue)

I love the concept. My main complaint would be the controls like other people have said. Since the player is so fast, some coyote time would go a long way so that you can still jump for a brief period after leaving a platform.

Hey thanks for the feedback!

Made a good amount of updates and added coyote time!

The idea of the game is good, it has a lot of potential for something cool, but it was not well implemented, it has common mistakes from a beginner developer or short production time, but it is something that you will improve in the future, the controls work well, but the Movement is not well polished, making it very difficult to jump on platforms, and some jumps are almost impossible to get right. The way lava fills the map makes it impossible to complete the game if you're not extremely fast at the start.

Some things to help you improve the game or future projects:

Add coyote time (This will greatly improve jumping, and will allow for better precision and control of the character)

Adding double jump (this is something that, if used well, greatly enriches platform games, allowing you to create more elaborate platforms)

Because it is an hourglass, the lava can flow from the top to the bottom (this would differentiate the game from several others where the lava starts from the bottom to the top) the lava could flow through the corners of the hourglass and fill it.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree with the critiques you gave and agree parts of the game could meld together better. Never thought of making the lava going down the sides... I loved your game btw!

Thank you, I wish you good luck on your gamedev journey, over time you will learn to improve projects 🙂

Developer

Hey, I really appreciated your write up and implemented some of your recommendations into the game! Coyote time, double jump, and lava doesn't start from the middle but rather from the bottom giving the player a chance.

The game is very fun and the theme is exectuted great. My only complaint is that the player is a little too fast to be able to platform with any precision.

The game is very fun and challenging, and the idea of the volcano growing over time was genius. I had a little difficulty with the controls, it would be interesting to polish them later. Great game!

Developer

I'm glad you liked the volcano idea! I felt very lucky to put the requirements together to find that. I just uploaded a new version with some improvements on the controls. If you get a chance to play I'd love to hear what you think!

Really cool idea for a game and a fun way to implement the theme and the prerequisite. The music fits well and the volcano building up was a great touch and looked great. For me the controls were a bit tough to get a hang of and did not feel super responsive but overall a really great game. Good luck with the Jam :)

Developer

I toned down some of the controls and added double jumping along with a coyote jump. If you get a chance to play it let me know how it goes!

I love the concept of the hourglass and the controls feel pretty good. I will say though it was quite difficult. I had a lot of fun playing though
