Wrenchform Ups and Downs

Yea, I really had no major or even noticeable minor problems with the game. It's probably my favourite of the jam. Excellent job!
xD Thank you so much!!
Love this one! Great colour palette, it really fit the construction feel. The only criticism I have for this game is that the workers didn't always have the same pattern and so it was hard to find the combinations that would get all workers to the end: one might work for the first 5 workers but then the next 5 go too far or bounce back and hit a spike. Apart from that, this game was pretty spot on, well done!
Thank you so much! And that's a fair criticism -that issue was by design and honestly I'm not sure it was the right design choice.
Originally everyone ran with a rng range speed of 2.7 to 3.2 -leaving a margin of error. The challenge to get 3 wrenches is to make your build as fail-safe as possible for the slower/faster ones. However, as RNG is known for lol, that meant that sometimes no one was slow and you could just hit play again and the level that was 23 out of 25 became 25/25 with no change from the player.
So my solution was to make them iterate from slow to fast each spawn between those min/max speeds so that failure and success was free of random chance. I'm thinking maybe it would feel more natural if that speed change was jumbled up throughout the group -but that is something I'm still debating -anyway, thank you again so much! :D
It really gives some Bridge Constructor: Portal vibes, which is really good. Like the rest have said, the graphics and the audio are excellent, really minimalistic and well done.
A great game overall. :D
Thank you so much!!! :D
This is an incredible remake of lemmings, a very popular game from the 90's originally made for the amiga and then ported to PC. This formula was also very popular in flash games, miniclip and armor games would have a new one about once every other month when I used to visit those sites. But again, this is VERY well made. The only, and I mean only, nitpick is that some of the levels are easier than the ones before them. I easily got 3 wrenches on levels 7 and 11, they should be closer to level 4-5.
lol I'm familiar with lemmings -though admittedly haven't really played them -wouldn't quite say it's a remake of lemmings from what I could glean watching a video of it -it seemed to play a little more like an rts where you issue the group commands to help them reach their goal -but could certainly see similarities too in all fairness.
Also, true some levels might be easier for you as you progress -it's been tricky balancing puzzle progression when there are multiple solutions -like one level was really reaaaaally hard for me when i was testing it -then i watched my gf play it and her approach was waaaaay different than mine and she beat it in like 10 seconds and i was like whaaaaaaa xD -anyway thank you so much for your kind words! :D
game looks rad but I'm unable to unlock the third level despite playing the first 2 - should I try the windows build?
crap i just updated it and the issue should be fixed on both platforms now -you might have to replay that level though -thanks for letting me know and sorry about that!!
This game is great! It's super polished, and the overall look and music work really well! It brought back a lot of positive memories of Mario vs. Donkey Kong games, but it's interesting to see something that feels quicker and more focused than those games. I'm not really certain about how well it fits the theme, but it's still a really great game! Amazing job!
Thank you so much and yea i looked up the mario vs dk series yesterday and found the minis ones in the series and was like oof crap lol -anyway thank you! :D
Very polished and fun! The art is charming, the music and SFX are dope, and the game play works well. There’s also a decent amount of levels and even a scoring system which motivated me to get all 3 wrenches in all levels. My only point of critique is, that if you look at it as a puzzle game it doesn’t really fit the theme super well. As others have pointed out it’s quite similar to Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Lemmings, Spirits or maybe even The Incredible Machine. But that doesn’t take anything away from the excellent quality of the game itself. Great job!
Thank you so much!! And would say mario vs dk minis and spirits definitely -the other two are different enough I wouldn't consider them too similar to say that it's not fit for the theme -my point below was that even if something has been done before it doesn't necessarily make it common or conventional if that makes sense -anyway thank you for your kind words! :D
The game was great. The art and sound effects are amazing for the time limit, and the levels are really good. Though I don't see the theme's usage very well here, it is really nice.
Thanks -i didn't get to go as far with it as I wanted before running out of time and since the jam rules where kinda strict about updating I had to leave it where it was
This could be a full game, and I think you should do it
Thank you so much!! -i didn't get to go nearly as far with it as I intended because I ran out of jam time -but planning to add a lot after the jam! :D
Most polished game I've played so far, great job!
Thank you so much!! :D
Definitely one of the best games that I've played in the jam so far, the level of polish on everything is amazing. I particularly love that each level can be approached with multiple solutions, and the restriction of how many blocks can be placed down makes for an extra challenge on each level. The art style and music are great as well. Nice work!
Very awesome of you to say -thank you so much!! :D
I don't think it fits the jam theme particularly well since I've seen this kind of gameplay in puzzle platformers before, and the types of blocks you can place are extremely conventional in platformers.
But this is still really impressive. Probably the most fun and polished game I've played in the contest yet, and has a pretty decent amount of content too.
Well, I hadn't if you could tell me the names of a few of those games you're thinking of so I can see how similar they are that would be helpful :S
Regardless, even if it's been done before that doesn't necessarily make it conventional -however, if it's been done a lot then I suppose after a point it becomes conventional lol well, I tried to be unconventional with a platforming game but, that said, I was running out of jam time and had to scope down (shocking right xD) which is why there wasn't a lot of block variety.
Originally I was wanting to make the blocks a little more like tower defense like with them shooting the players through the levels but was having too many bugs with that so all that will have to wait til after the jam is over. Anyway thank you for your kind words!! :D
It particularly reminded me of Mario vs. Donkey Kong. Admittedly that's the only game/series that comes to mind right now, and I'd consider it more of a puzzle game than a platformer, but I'd probably say the same of this (since there's no direct control of any character). I don't really see this as an unconventional platformer, but more as a puzzle game that happens to take place in a platforming engine, if that makes any sense. If you had guns shooting the players along or something, that would've felt more like an unconventional use of an object to me.
Ooof -yeah I looked at the mario vs donkey kong series and saw they had a few of them with the minis that were like that -still wouldn't say it's common enough to not be a least a bit unconventional but I look forward to taking this one further anyway
I'll definitely play the game again when you update it because it was pretty fun
Thanks! :D
This was SO FUN!! The art, the color palette, the music, and specially the level design; I love every bit of this too much!!
It took me a while but I managed to finish every level with three wrenches and I literally couldn't stop before doing so. This was way too fun, seriously!! Awesome work!
Very awesome of you to say! -thank you so much!! :D
Incredible execution of the jam theme, sounds, graphics, mechanics.
Just wow, I am speachless.
Keep it up!
Thank you so much!! :D
best game I've played yet! Great graphics, soundtrack is perfect, and level design kept me engaged and wanting to finish each level with 3 wrenches! Great work!
Thank you so much!! :D
A really great game i especially like the music and graphics
Thank you!! :D
Wow! Feels a complete game! You could release, and nobody noticed that it was made in 72 hours! Well polished, nice idea! Fav++
Thank you so much -and I was about a day late to getting to start working on the jam so it was closer to 48 hours lol xD
Loved the game!
The concept was great as well as the art!
But I think some levels need some more work for example at stage 5 with the cannons I just pressed play and I won the level 25/25 cannons didn't even shoot. Until level 8 I didn't even notice you can change the blocks rotation! (I may have skipped the controls in the description)
Thank you! And you're right but also last night I made a quick update to fix some bugs and instead made things waaay worse :s lol fixed some of the issues you mentioned -thanks for letting me know! :D
Amazing game! well done!
Thank you!! :D
I really hope your game gets the attention it deserves. This was perfect!
Thank you so much!! :D
