Great game here, visuals and audio are great! I love the mechanic of choosing the next room's difficulty level, but overall I don't think it did much in terms of risk vs. reward, maybe either show the points on screen during the session or have some other kind of reward after it i.e. coins, powerups. Unfortunately my playtime was tarnished a bit with bugs, though for a game jam entry that is to be expected. Otherwise everything else was very well done and very polished, nice work!

I really like the idea of the difficulty slider.  Bugs that I mention you've already listed, from enemies spawning on your spawn which lead to me dying fast, to some incorrect enemy placement.  Could also consider pointing the sword with respect to the direction that you're aiming. Overall though, this was a great effort.

4/5. Interesting mechanics, and really good for a 1 man project.

Lots of bugs as listed on the itch page. No UI for resseting game (I had to refresh the browser). I got stuck on a door with the whole room being clear.

Props for the Zelda theme :)

The concept is great!  I found the hard rooms to be VERY hard (never survived one).  If the last enemy stays still it's easy to control the bard but if I'm dodging or something like that then it's harder... or maybe I just need more practice.  In any case, it'd be cool to develop this concept more.

This is really cool!! I got the glitch where the door to the next room doesn't open in the two times I tried to play the game, but regardless, it was fun! The art is really cool too!

Dragon Arena Ups and Downs

Ups:

  • The graphics and audio are really awesome
  • The concept of deciding your next room's difficulty added more depth to the gameplay, which was great
  • Killing enemies is really satisfying
  • I just really like rougelikes, so this game was right up my alley

Downs:

  • Although the audio is really good, I would be lying if I said I wasn't missing having a sword slashing sound
  • As others have pointed out, this game is kind of buggy at times. Some bugs I encountered included:
    • Enemies spawning at the bottom of the screen and rocketing up really fast at the start of a screen
    • The difficulty bar stopping right away as I entered a room with enemies
    • Enemies going too far off screen, disallowing me to kill them and effectively ending the game

Overall, it's probably one of my favourite entries that I have played so far! Nice work!

This concept of controlling the difficulty is pretty cool! I also really enjoyed the graphics and the music in the game. Great job!

This is a very fun game and it’s a unique take on the theme. Although there seams to be no cooldown on how fast you can attack which makes some combat encounters trivial.

The bugs are easy to find, but I didn't find them too annoying, the character and monsters are very cute, the idea of the bar is very interesting.

Cool man!

Fantastic design and very original idea for managing difficulty.

It was frustrating when enemies would spawn on top of you at the start, also, are there even any dragons in the arena?

Developer

thanks for playing and feedback.

no, there are no dragons in this game :(

The difficulty is just very controllable, there is no chance of stoping the bar in red if it wasnt in purpose. If the enemies could do Stuff that obligates you attacking them, like jumping far every 2 seconds, or charging a dangerous attack, but it must put pression on the player, so it worries more about the enemies than about the bar

There was variated enemies! The skeletons where pretty original, since they matched with the sword mechanic (that is important)

The tutorial was neat

This was quite a lot of fun, and I replayed it a lot. However, I wish there was a health bar on the enemies to show how close they are to being dead, because otherwise, It's really hard to time the randomness bar stopping. But it was still fun regardless. Great job.

A score indicator while you're playing would've been nice. It's hard to know how much progress you've made.

Found it pretty buggy at times but when it was working well it was quite enjoyable. My only gripe is that the difficulty bar ends up being luck based since enemies take so many hits. Could keep count of when to try and get the last hit in. Either way nice job!

An interesting game, beautifull pixel art, player was a little bit slow, but overall a very good game

was a bit buggy and I don't think rng is necessarily unconventional in a roguelike

Great concept and graphics, but very buggy. Also iFrames would be nice :P
