Great little dungeon crawler with nice FX. I love the detail that the developer put into this game from subtle camera shakes to small variations in the penumbra.

A very good game, I really liked it. The music, the darkness, the two gun upgrades hidden, everything was well executed.

Really liked this game! I completed it without realising I had a map, maybe why I found it a little tedious at times going back and forth for power to clear a room of enemies when that room didn't even lead anywhere, haha. Really nice atmosphere and concept, execution on point all round.

Also love the dedication at the end of the credits!

Reminded me a lot of Alien Breed and it's many clones, and really enjoyed it.

I couldn't find myself on the maps when I activated them, good to know I wasn't the only one judging from the comments and I wasn't going mad!

Great game! Level design, graphics and sound is perfect but for me the game would be better if it would be more stressful(faster ennemies, less life... )

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I agree with you. You can speed run it in about 2 minutes when you know how it plays... I stayed on the easy side of difficulty - my last game was too hard and I think I made this too easy. If I develop this further, this would be a tutorial level type thing and quite easy. I was working on more enemies who were a lot tougher but ran out of time. I’ll work on it!

Very nice sound design, graphics and visual effects! The gameplay is good too, I just wish there were more variety (enemies, weapons, mechanics). Seems you used a bunch of cool tools, I'm gonna check them out.

Developer

Cheers! Yeah, totally agree. I started the jam thinking I was going to make at least 5 different enemy types, weapon upgrades, metroid style powerups and changes... Then I spent 48 hours trying to work out a problem with the first alien AI and realised I'd missed a "this" in the javascript... Ran out of time - but definitely a future plan if it come to it! Thanks for the review!

A well-implemented and good-to-play complete game. I like the mechanic of decreasing power when firing bullets; reminiscent of magic spells cast from hit points or stamina. And it's kept away from being frustrating by having lots of recharge points rather than having them be a battle to even find. Took me some time to complete, and I persevered because I was enjoying myself. A tiny gripe: if the map had a flashing dot showing where I was it would be (I've measured this) one hundred billion times more useful. Maybe everyone else just has a better spatial memory than I do? Anyway, great work! One of the things I like most is that although the graphics are very boxy and straight-edged, that really works with the aesthetic rather than looking unfinished or childish like some other games. And the fading light shows that the developer could have done something looking more shaded and real if they'd needed to.

Developer

Thanks for the detailed feedback! Really helpful! I completely agree about the map. The maps were actually a very last minute addition - I wanted collectible data files which gave a bit of back story but ran out of time so added the maps as an alternative. I may well develop this further after the jam and sort a load of these things out!

Wow, very engaging, amazing how much you've managed to squeeze into 64x64 and how full fetched   it was. Think there were some cases where screen was dark with no instructions and you had to press X to continue, not sure if that was deliberate "switch lights on" action, but again, amazing! Nice touch with dedication in the end. Max points!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, there were a few things that were pretty poorly executed as I simply ran out of time to work them out! The dark screens were one of these - I wanted the animated text and had to end on a blank screen or it went weird... It's something I'll look into post jam.

By the way, congrats on making it to the end! Wasn't sure if anyone would make it and see that!

Like I said - it was *engaging* ;)

I think it had enough story snippets to make me want to go all the way, and overall game made sure I knew what to do next with colour-coded zones, it helped with not wanting to give up.

Very cool concept - love the mechanics and the choices of using power to fight vs running away, etc. The narration at the beginning was an especially nice touch, and love the look and feel of the game. Great work - I'd love to see this fleshed out into a fuller game :D

Developer

Cheers! Yeah, was hoping it would make the player think rather than just wade in. I may well develop this one further!

I like the obscure ambient that it transmits to the player. I like the way bullets and light are connected so we spend bullets randomly. Well done. If you have the time take a look at my entry https://itch.io/jam/lowrezjam-2018/rate/293637

Thanks! I was aiming for a survival horror in space vibe - hoping I managed that to some extent. Also was trying to make a shooter more thoughtful. Think I was less successful at that and needs further refining.
