Played your game on stream. I've got the vod below if you wanted to watch me go through it. Found some minor bugs (being able to see quests on the main menu and some sprite ordering issues) but they didnt affect the overall gameplay too much. The overall game is nice. You did a good job building up the world and making the different quests feel different enough. There was some issues with audio balancing where I couldnt really hear the music in the background (with all values at max) and theres some missmatching designs on the sprites (some things have outlines while others dont and trees have shadows while nothing else does)
Damn, good feedback, much appreciated.
You could adjust the sounds in options, we set them to somewhere around middle for most.
I couldn't for the love of God figure out how to set up ysort. It all looks like it should work, and I tried a dozen different settings, but it never worked.
You missed the minigame for eggs, I guess I should've made it more clear in the quests. Hope not many missed that part :D
Thanks again for the feedback.
Sounds were at max for me I think. At least they spawned that way and I didn't touch them. Might have been my fault and a previous game had loud sounds which made me turn down the overall firefox volume but I forget at this point
For y sorting you need to adjust the pivot position to be at the bottom of the sprite and then that will be the point the y position will be compared against. All sprites also have to be siblings (or close to siblings, forget how exact it wants them but usually thats what people mess up on)
This was cute! It was thematically fun and I especially liked the different minigames. Nice take on the ‘hero after the quest’ trope, reminds me of Littlewood a bit. Well done!
Thats a cool perspective on the "hero leaves the village" theme. I really liked the graphical style, the fun interactions and the story bits and references. Heres where I could see some improvement:
- I think sometimes the continue dialogue button switched from 'x' to 'space'
- the house outline didn't quite match the other assets
- the chicken sound was a bit too loud compared to the rest
Just some nitpicks^^ overall the game felt pretty polished! With all the praise the hero got during the game I kind of expected a plot twist somehow ;)
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it. I'm happy to hear that you like the game.
I really liked this one, it doesn't come out boring like just some random RPG without much in it, I just really liked something about yours in particular.
Really nice job keeping an engaging story and the minigame with the eggs was really fun.
Excellent submission!
Thank you, I'm happy to hear that you like it. Yeah bullet hell chicken coop was zeb150n's cool work.
I enjoyed all the tasks having their own little minigame to complete! It was also a nice reversal of the usual role of the player by having us just preparing things for the heroes coming home from the big quest. I did find the player movement a bit too zippy, but that's a pretty easy thing to adjust for. Nicely done, congrats on your first GWJ game!
Thank you ^^
Very fun! And very cute story. I really liked all the sound effects. And the mini games were super intuitive so the controls didn't require any explanation. Great work!
Thank you ^^
I enjoyed it overall, it had a nice atmosphere. Though I did struggle to complete the quests, but everyone seemed happy with the celebration anyway. Good work.
The speed in which you run around felt jarring. Though I appreciated it with how large the map was. I am curious if you made the space smaller if a slower speed would have been more doable. I enjoyed the minigames and the character art overall. Also the settings not totally being opaque over the game made reading the different options more difficult. I did remap the keys and liked how the tutorial prompts used my new ones.
Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it.
I got jumpscared by the sound of the chickens… Cute and pretty game :3
I mean, if you are scared, imagine how they feel
Nice little RPG. I like how the quests required little mini games to be completed. The game ties into the theme nicely and the story is quaint and short! Lol at the old man at the cave entrance!
Good job!
Nice little game. Cool that has mini games like Undertale, i liked the chickens how they look and that shrimp thing that looks like an baby omicronian from Futurama! the fast run animation was nice also!
Thanks for the review
I think that shrimp thing is the crazy old man?
And yes, Undertale was the inspiration behind the minigames. I wanted to add more, but we didnt have time.
now i see is baby chicken but at first glance was shrimp baby omnicronian!
oi! our boi has a mouth now! he can finally answer people properly
and lol, the chickens and baby chicks are basically just a circle with a tail
Also liked the minigames, specially the hunters one, good art aswell !
Really good game, I had a lot of fun taking the role of a villager preparing for the hero to return ! The tasks are good and the minigames are fun, I especially wasn't expecting the get the egg minigame, really funny. Great art to go with it and cool help added by the arrows and task list. Really fun, amazing job !
Thank you, I am glad you like the mini games ^^
I liked the pixel art, I missed the music, I think it was very low in volume.
but otherwise good job! :D
you should be able to change the volume in setting
we used a free-to-use song from Spencer Y.K. https://spencer-yk.itch.io
