I love a good survivors game, and this is no exception! Really like the unique companions and the mechanic where the companion you don't choose becomes an enemy. Definitely a fresh take on the survivor style game
The game starts off great leveling up and getting companions to assist you on the way. With great music and SFX the simple yet affective arts does the job. Unfortunately, quickly you realize that your companions really don't help and the monsters just keep multiplying and slowing down the computer to a point where the game stops being fun :(
Maybe I am playing it wrong but with those fast enemies, I don't know any other way to play besides running away and swinging the axe to keep the speedy enemies from killing you. If it was balanced a little better or the engine could handle the massive number of enemies this one could have been great - that being said, it was a lot of fun played for 30 minutes dying 4 times, so thanks for submitting and if it is updated would love to try again.
The companions are how you end up surviving the mid and late game but you do need to get upgrades for them or else youll be outscaled. Usually you need 1 upgraded dps companion out of the first two you pick (either cat, frog, or koi). All companions are extremely op in different ways
And yeah I need some optimization in there. Hopefully should make that a lot better in a post jam build
I think Vampire Survivors like games are really hard to get right. That, or, I might tend to be biased against them for some reason if they're a clone of that game or even similar to that game.
Even so, there's something about your specific game that I really liked, so I think you did a really standout job here. Great game! The sounds, visuals and everything is just clean and working well with the theme and the experience.
A very minor detail, and this might be just me, is that the animation in between for upgrades is enjoyable to see a few times. But I wonder if it may be helpful for that to go a bit faster especially when doing things like repeatedly clicking, which maybe should skip right to the 3 upgrade cards immediately to select from. However, it's a very minor detail, and overall, really nice job on this!
Very nice game, maybe a bit easy until like lvl 30 but that's also cause of me getting really good upgrades, overall really nice, love the sound effects.
That said I would have loved to see some shooting enemy as well, your companion would also be even more useful as you dodge bullets.
Really great job guys the level of polish is great it feels good to play, congrats.
Nice polished game, it is a somewhat similar game as ours. The Art, Music & SFX is amazing
I was impressed with how well this played. I got to 3 minutes before getting overwhelmed. Really well polished, and I enjoyed the companion mechanic. I did wish there were more upgrades for them. They felt more impactful and I didn't care about the upgrades to me. It could be fun if there were checkpoints or something that encouraged you to walk around the map, I basically just stayed in a circle.
This game has so much polish and a clean gameplay loop, it's amazing the team got it done in 9 days! Really great job to everyone involved. I like the overall style and card aesthetic of the game, but my only complaint would have to be the balance of upgrades. I feel like it's very obvious in a lot of cases which upgrades to choose over others, but that's probably just cus of the way I play. Great game, great submission :)
I really enjoyed the game; it felt very polished and I liked the companion mechanic. The only thing that bothered me was the level-up animation, which seemed too slow. Overall, it's a great game!
Very polished and well executed overall. I think the level up doesnt feel very good like it slows down the pace a lot, the animations/transition are cool but after seeing it 20+ times its like "pls just let me choose already". Also I wish the pet upgrades had more priority rather than the human, I had a fish and cat and was only getting boring upgrades for the human while the pets didnt have any... The idea of making the one you didnt choose an enemy its very clever, attacking feels smooth, the enemy design is pretty cool and having multiple pet options made me play more to see their abilities. Although I couldnt finish I found it fun to play and with creative ideas.
This is a ton of fun! The sfx are great, especially the level up fanfare. Difficulty and chaos scales up smoothly. Camera move/background scroll seems kind of janky and could use smoothing in my opinion. I made it a level or 2 past 3rd companion choice and started worrying for the health of my LMB–I will come back to this with AHK remap for attack key :D
I found it quite polished in terms of gameplay and art in general. The only problem I see is that when it reached level 10 (in my case) it started to slow down a lot haha, I guess the game needed to be optimized, but otherwise very good job! :D
Pets!! That's an autowin for me.Plus the "HAHA" every time I made a choice was hilarious.
I got a ridiculous build with double weasels + exp boosts + aoe exp burn and I was leveling up so fast its insane. But in a fun way. Only QOL improvement I can think of is, to perhaps have a attack indicator before eagles dive at me.
But otherwise, I had fun with this entry!
Vampire Survivor like but with active attacks, i like it. The frog companion killed me instantly though.
Fun vampire-survivor-clone. I agree with Urwinc comments below. Also, the frog companion killed me before I knew what was going on, then the weasel went out of the map. May need some tweaks here and there.
Incredible job!
A great level of polish and a fun concept. The idea of choosing your companion and the one you don't choose becomes an enemy is really fun and unique!
Only negative feedback is, in it's current state, I level up so often that with the timer pausing when I level up, reading the 3 cards, it took me about 10 minutes to get through 5 minutes on the timer. It might be worth reducing that 15 minute goal so people are more likely to play to the end.
Amazing work! Loved it!
Loved it, Koi pets are the best! The weasels killed me by throwing enemies at me 😒
The folklore theme fits very well in this game, it's fun, the only issue I had is that it got a bit laggy after some time playing it
Hey, I just played The Legend of Akio and I love its all-around folklore theme revolved around animal companions and yokai. This game only had 2 controls but they were easy to get used and just admire the attacking animations. Also, this game ramps up in difficulty overtime which I love despite me not being able to beat the level. It's fun to attack the yokai with your animal helping you kill some of them to increase your score. The level up system is also really neat thinking, and made me feel like I was gaining powers. Just an overall great game, 5/5 stars in every area!
