This is really well made and fun!

My only gripe is my own bad luck - the slimes decided I did not DESERVE slime cubes and tended to drop 1 all the time.
I did love that I could mine multiple blocks at once if I hit near the edges of them.

This is probably the first time I've seen a mixture of survival/crafting elements in a "survivor"-like and I must admit I'm very blown away with how well it meshes together! Excellent work! The only thing I would probably like is to have an option to pause the game when bringing up the tool menu.

Developer

Thanks, I had a really fun toying with the idea. It all ended up coming together really well. Thanks for checking it out and leaving me feedback!

The game was really good and I loved the uniqueness of it. The graphics were cute and SFX was really better than many other games in this jam.

The gameplay was deep and long enough to keep the players engaged. But the game starts abruptly and with the lack of a tutorial, the player becomes confused at the beginning.

This game was innovative, challenging, deep and fun and I think is a great contender for the title of "The Jam Winner"! Great job!

I appreciate the feedback! Great sentiments here, I agree with it being a bit of a sink or swim start, could have done a better job introducing the mechanics to the player and provide more direction. Thanks for checking it out, I’m excited to see where the project goes!

Cool game! Super impressed with the amount of effort put into this. Can't imagine setting up a crafting system with resource management to be an easy task. I think my only real critique would just be on pacing and the goal of the game.

The start seems really slow. With all the enemies that came at me at the beginning, I instantly wanted to make a sword but couldn't figure out an easy one to make (didn't even end up making one during my playthrough with how long it seemed to take to make the slime sword - also not sure if their was a better item to make for this scenario to be honest). Also, the cost of swings it takes to kill or destroy blocks seems pretty high for a jam game. I eventually smelted and forged the better pickaxe and honestly couldn't really tell the difference between the crude and the better guy. I think maybe reducing how long it takes to kill enemies and destroy blocks might speed up the game a bit so people can get into the build phase quicker.

Additionally, I didn't really understand what I was trying to do. Like, I get progressing a crafting system is the goal but my question would be why? I know Minecraft follows the same progression but they have an end goal with an Ender Dragon as a boss that you prepare yourself towards through the crafting system built into that game. Not saying you have to do that for a jam, since that is definitely not in scope, but maybe the player is exploring this crafting system to build something needed to escape this mine or enemy-filled cave they are in. Just food for thought.

Regardless, cool stuff and if you continue to work on the game, keep it up~!

Thanks for the in depth feedback! I agree it could have had a better goal and pace, I originally planned a boss fight, though time went elsewhere. I did like that it captured some of the early feelings of Minecraft in that it was more sandbox than adventure. As I continue the project, I think it’ll lean more into the adventure side, but I want to retain some of that sandbox feel!

Very nice submission. Love the Minecraft like feel. Hope I can come back and beat it later (if it is possible to win)...

Only complaint is lack of a save and continue, which I know is not easy especially considering the time and how big the world is. (Dictionaries can be saved to config files)

Again great submission.

Developer

Yea, saving was on the feature list that I didn’t quite make it to sadly. I’ll be adding more features post jam, including saving and balancing. There isn’t currently a win condition, just a feeling of “I’ve done what I want to do.” :P

Great entry! Music, sfx, and art are on point. A couple of critiques I would say are that the enemy spawn rate can be a bit much at times and also the hit boxes seem a bit off in some way. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback Robert. I was hoping to balance out the spawns a bit, had a fix for it that actually became a critical bug, so I had to revert last minute. I’ll be working to improve this post jam.

Reminds me a bit of Minecraft but in 2D. Browser version is a bit buggy on Mac in Safari - I'm hoping Godot fixes this in 4.3 when that's released soon. Like the other commenters I would have liked a sort of play through tutorial maybe - perhaps you pick up existing resources initially, then forge, then move on to mining/killing etc.

Overall tho this game has a lot of depth for a week long jam!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback Pete! I would have liked to have exported a more compatible Mac specific build (I have an M1 silicon I need to experiment with exports). Yea, a better user onboarding was on my list, but I ran out of time before I could iron that out. There are some other balancing issues that exist too that would have benefited from more time and polish! Thanks for playing!

Well done! I can see a lot of effort went into making this game. The overall playing experience is smooth. UI is intuitive, which is hard in a crafting game. Mining and crafting was fun. The only downside was that the enemies are pretty relentless. I followed an approach of allowing them to mass together (which they do pretty easily) by running around them in circles, and then attacking them. The pushback means that the enemy which is hit directly ends up hitting someone behind them, etc, so more damage overall. Anyway, lesser time spent fighting and more crafting would be nice. Of course, this is still great for a jam. You could consider these points for future. Was having good fun throwing slime balls and stones, until I got a throwable metal pickaxe. That felt like a superpower!

Developer(+1)

Ah yes the great YoYo Trick: Throwable Metal Pickaxe! I had a blast making all of this, and am aware there could be balancing on the enemy AI. I’m excited to pursue some more of this as a post jam follow up. Thanks for the feedback!

This game is great, and it reminds me a lot of Necesse. Fun crafting mechanics and balancing fighting!

Developer

Ah thanks! Necesse is a great game, so glad to have drawn the comparison! Thanks for playing.

Very fun concept that borrows from a few established genres while still feeling like its own thing, nice work! Very relaxing atmosphere you managed to capture. Definitely echo that it would benefit from a faster start, like reducing the resource cost of the forge and anvil and the like so players can feel rewarded those first few upgrades and be willing to work a bit harder for the later ones. Just my personal take though!

Developer

Yea, I wish I was able to get the balance on those a bit better. The early feedback process is important for a project, but lacks when doing game jams haha. Thanks for checking it out, I’m proud of what I was able to get done in a week!

A very solid survival game, especially for one made such a short time period.  I think it would greatly benefit from a faster start, specially since unfortunately, most people will not want to spend a lot of time on a jam game.

Developer(+1)

Yea, I had a difficulty curve that I tried to add towards the end, but it ended in a critical bug that I didn’t have time to sort out, so I was forced to revert it. The plan is to add content to this over time, so be sure to check back! Thanks for the feedback.

WAIT! This game is so fun! It's like micecraft and holocure/vampire survive, i had a lot of fun mining away! :D Very impressive that you did it alone. :0

Developer

Thanks, I had a really great time making this. Those were some certain inspirations for this entry. I had some additional ideas that I couldn’t quite get to, which just means more to work on post jam!

Very cool game, I like how well thought out the game is. It's interesting to see your take on the forge theme compared to everyone else's. If you worked alone, then props to you for putting that much work into it. This is a really cool idea and I'd be interested in seeing it progress.

Developer

Thank you very much. Yea I did all the art, sfx and coding. I snagged the input prompts from Kenney.nl( only ended up using a blank button anyways), and the BG audio from ChillMindscapes here on itch.io. I love doing Pixel art and Coding so it’s always a joy to be able to do something where I can be this creative.
