This is the game most fitting to the theme, and I’ve reviewed quite a few. Very nice atmosphere. It’s just a wee bit on the short side! The Master Smith sounds like a swell guy, too.

Thanks! I’m happy that I got a tiny slice of a game together in time - but yes sadly it’s over too quickly. Thanks for playing and commenting 😊👍🏻

Love the voice over. This felt so peaceful and was just really nice to play. The help labels were really nice and it was nice to be able to disable them once I know what was going on. I also liked that I could do multiple things at once (ie, keep the bellows running while using the hammer and anvil). Really nice game!

Thank you so much for that comment! I really wanted people to have an experience as you described so that’s very encouraging.

Loved the the mood! The part that was most fun for me was discovering how everything works, the control keys were kinda odd, and the tutorial didn't work for me, so i had to figure everything out lol. It was satisfying tho! Loved that the sword actually changed and reacted to fire and to it being finished.

Developer

Thank you! I’m glad that the exploration aspect worked for you. I hoped it would be fun to work stuff out

I loved the chilly vibes, with the music and the voice acting. I found the controls and gameplay intuitive enough for the game jam and the hints for the keys with "/" were all I needed to get going. Also, one of the few with enough courage to make it 3D. Great job!

thanks for playing and leaving a lovely comment. It’s interesting how a couple of people mentioned about having the courage to do a 3D game. I’m actually terrified by 2D and that’s because I’m fairly comfortable in blender and it means I can do all the asset design and the level creation in the same place and then when you come to Godot it’s just just about hooking up a different animations. Whereas with 2D you have to create all your assets in one place import them then build the levels all in Godot, so yeah I’m just  a bit strange and find 3D easier!

Playing the game in the browser it was extremely loud from the get go, and a sound option to turn it down would have been welcome. I also couldn't find the keybind to show the labels for a bit! (Guess we don't use the same keyboard layout, what worked for me in the end was - instead of /). But I loved the voice acting, the forging process was the right amount of involved, and being able to manage several systems at the same time (heating the fire, beating the hammer) was fun!

Developer

thanks for the solid feedback! You’re right about the sound levels and I did not think about the keyboard mapping being different. Glad you mastered juggling the multiple actions at once - that was exactly what I hoped for!

This is a very cozy forging simulator! I could see this mechanic being added into a larger project. Great job!

Developer(+1)

thanks! Yes I had in mind a mini game like you find in Skyrim and similar RPGs

I loved the assets, the idea of being a more 'realistic' forge having to cool the metal and hit with the hammer at the right moment is quite impressive. I think it would be nice to have more visual feedback to show the right moment to do each thing. Although I completed the making bar, for some reason I couldn’t finish the sword, but at least it got sharper haha.

Developer

thanks for playing and commenting. The final part of forging requires quenching it in water to cool it right down. But you’re right, the progress bars could have had indicators on to show the ideal temperature range

Cool game, I like the vibe. I can't finish the sword though! Got the bar next to the hammer to max out by heating the sword and hammering it, quenched it, but I guess it wasn't done. I'll have another go after work, see if I can figure it out (I do like this sort of game). Very impressive to go with 3D, it looks great!

Developer

oh. The sword should be very shiny and sharp at the end, and the quenching needs to be fully complete. But sadly the only feedback you get is an audio message. I didn’t quite figure out a good ending sequence

I love how chill this game is. Great work!

Developer

thanks. Someone said that about a previous game I made. I think I do like the chill side of things more these days!

The shield was my favorite. :D

Developer

It seemed rather… fitting!

thanks for playimg

Nice game! Found it a bit difficult to figure out all the controls at first. But after a bit of trial and reading the comment here, I was able to finish the sword. Felt good to see the sword getting in shape. Good job in setting the mood of a forge with the sounds, lighting and voiceover.

Developer(+1)

thanks! Because the game wasn’t that long or complicated I decided against spelling out the gameplay too much so there was at least some challenge to it! Probably would have made the book readable if I had a bit more time to help players more tho

This was interesting– I figured out how the fire, bellows, anvil, hammer, and water all worked, but I couldn’t tell if my sword was getting… swordier, sharper? Is there a way to win or lose?

Developer(+1)

There is indeed a way to finish the sword. It requires the right forging temperature and timing with the hammer
