Overall I like the chickies and their abilities, the tower defense was pretty enjoyable. Cool submission!

How does your game fit the theme?
We augmented the traditional Tower Defense formula with random tower generation and risk reward mechanics. Do you use your available towers now, or roll the dice and try to save them for a harder wave? And as the game gets harder, you need to roll with what the game gives you, changing your strategy to fit the towers you receive.

pretty good game. I love it. Though I felt a bit clickbaited by the cover title
That’s my first playthrough :p
I’m glad people out there went the Tower Defense route, it’s a game genre I really like. I think your game was good! Wish there were more bosses ;)
Enjoyable game, the randomness doesn’t seem unfair like in other games from this jam, there’s a good assortment of chicks, maybe it’s a difficulty issue but there wasn’t much strategy other than put whatever chick I have available in the routes where there are enemies incoming, the greatest tactical moment I had was putting a bunch of snipers alongside a bunch of reloader and watch them anhilate half the map, but that’s pretty much it.
Overall, a fun game and a good entry.
A pretty simple tower defence game - it works for what it is.
The presentation was alright, and while there were some really low res textures and spirtes, it has that old flash game aesthetic, so I get why it is the way it is. The sound design wasn't great the sniper was especially annoying and loud. I really liked how you introduced all of the towers, as a lot of games in these jams have a problem of just throwing you into the deep end without telling you or hinting at what each thing in your arsenal does.
The gameplay is okay, however the fact that what towers you get is entirely random and the fact that they disappear after a little while makes the game feel really out of my control - if I'm winning I feel like I'm just getting carried by the RNG and if I'm losing it feels like I'm just being screwed over by it - not great feelings, perhaps a little more iteration to give the player a little more agency would've elevated the experience very nicely. The game also quite quickly devolved into a mindless routine for me, where I just placed any tower I got into the vicinity of the hen house where there were towers missing and I just repeated this until I died at 1.1k foxes
Overall I definitely enjoyed myself for the 9ish minutes I played, but the lack of agency and expanse sameyness unfortunately brings the game down
Thanks for all the great feedback! SFX is still a weak spot, and balancing sound effects for speakers, headphones, etc. is hard! Maybe the lesson is to add volume sliders for folks :P
Glad you enjoyed yourself for 9ish minutes though! That was our expectation of what people might invest into a jam game, and gives us good ideas that with more balancing and iteration, we could create something that holds interest for longer.
I had a really great time playing your game, cheered me up. I love the madness in the eyes of these chickens :D
The boss was a bit anticlimactic, felt a bit too easy ;)
952 points I think I got? Loved the idea of the hens fighting off the foxes in a more aggressive “3 Pigs” kind of theme. Randomly getting 10 reloaders in a row after a sniper… chef kiss.
I did enjoy the game for what it was. I don't really agree with whether this is really "roll of the dice" relate, as it's mostly just random and has nothing to do with dice. But making the towers disappear over time makes a good game mechanic as it forces you to rebuild all the time. My main issue was that at a glance the resupplier and bomber looked too similar and I kept thinking I was ready for a wave somewhere, only to notice after half of them got through that that's a resupplier, not a bomber.
The poison tower seems to not work correctly, out of 5 poison towers I had placed I only saw a poisoned enemy twice.
Thanks for the great feedback on sprite design, with more time I think further improving the sprites and adding animation would be a high priority.
About poison towers, I think the card was a bit unclear too; they are support towers who grant poison abilities to all attacking towers within range. So they're powerful, but only next to other towers. Although maybe damage over time isn't that important when bombers and snipers can OHKO in a lot of cases... Definitely more balancing needed here too, 48 hours is so short!
ahh, they're support towers? Yeah I didn't get that!
At that point you might also think about targeting priorities, so you can set your towers to not necessarily attack the one furthest in the front but something else too: one with most health, one with least health, furthest in the front, furthest in the back, etc.
Yeah, making towers like that smarter in their targeting is pretty key to a good tower defense; another example would be bombers aiming for clusters of enemies instead of singular ones. But, as redshirt said 48h is so little and while we worked until the end we never got to doing any of this advanced tuning of the game. Thanks for the playing the game and feedback!
Quick tip while it's on my mind. For the audio of the gunshots, add a tiny variation in the pitch for each shot so it doesn't sound so static / generic. Just a random.range(0.95f, 1.05f) and that'll do wonders.
There's not much to say, it's a solid little tower defense game, and the sniper + reloader combo is a bit overpowered. Definitely good for a weekend game jam that's for sure.
Solid tower defense with some catch to it. Poor foxes not getting their omelettes ^^ It has some potential (3/3/5) especially with the art style ^^ I like it.
Stay crunchy.
