I'm no cooking game fan, but this does seem like the sort of game a fan of that genre would be into. The music is fun and whimsical with the art making a similar impression. The controls are snappy and responsive and giving the player the ability to set controls is a great addition. My only real issue was that my dice kept falling into the ocean. I also, personally, don't enjoy random chance playing a major factor in my success when I'm on a time limit. This is because I often ended up rerolling a whole bunch of times to get the right ingredients which slowed down gameplay making the time limit frustrating. Perhaps more hardcore and experienced fans of this genre could keep up, but I wasn't really doing too well because of those factors.

I'm glad you enjoyed the art, music and controls! The dice falling into the ocean was definitely an issue that would have been good to fix.

Technically the die rolls weren't random chance. They did actually take whichever value they landed face up on, so it's possible to shove a die to the correct side and get exactly what you want. It's a pain, but it's possible.

Anyway, thank you for the feedback!

The controls were a bit tricky to figure out for me but overall a really cool and wel polished game! Very impressive for 48h!

I'm not overly familiar with cooking games, but using dice for ingredients gives it a certain extra puzzle aspect beyond the traditional time-management challenge, very interesting!

Developer

I'm glad you thought it was interesting!

Cute idea!! I got stuck on trying to get the dish out of the pot - it's possible I didn't fully understand what the interact key vs the activate key did...

We also had dice roll out of the play area which was frustrating when it was the one we wanted.

Very impressive work for a 48h jam!

Developer

Thanks for your support! I agree on the key mapping is not clear enough. We will do a better tutorial if we have more time!

Cute visuals for a nice game! I like the idea of making dice as part of a cooking recipe, even though I think that my favorite aspect was to simply spawn dice and fill the room around me haha ^^ I am part of the team of guys that randomly pressed space and zoomed the camera, but I think that is an easy fix for a possible update.

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed it!

Not a big fan of co-op games. Pressing space makes the camera to zoom and there is no way (I found) to put it on the original position. Not very easy to understand how to play.

Developer

That's too bad.

The game is playable by yourself, so if you would prefer, you can treat it as a singleplayer game!

Yeah, the space zoom was a bug-testing mechanic that we forgot to remove before submission. Try pressing SHIFT to zoom back out.

We didn't have time to make a very elaborate tutorial, which can definitely make it confusing. Check out the itch.io description. We have an explanation of how to play down there!

Hopefully that information makes the game experience better for you!

Quite fun idea!

Developer

thanks!

Neat idea, a bit confusing at first and a little buggy, but fun once you get into it.

Some things you might want to address:

  • Why does space bar zoom in?
  • Why can I pull a dish out of the pots without putting dice in?
  • Why do I need to "activate" at the order station, instead of just placing down the order?
  • Prevent dice rolling so far away from their spawned area.
Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! We definitely should have put a bit more time into the instructions, but too late now lol.

  • Space bar zooms in because we had that as utility for debugging and forgot to remove it before submitting. Oops. Shift also un-zooms accidentally.
  • You can pull zero dishes out of the pot because we made the dish mechanic near the end of the jam and forgot to check whether the value in the pot was > 0. Also oops.
  • The original implementation was that to "interact" with the pot or the order station you had to use the "interact" key, while "pickup/drop" was just to pickup/drop items on the ground. When we implemented throwing though, a side effect was that you could just drop food on the pot or garbage to interact with them. We never implemented throwing food onto the order station because of time constraints, so the side effect never popped up for that. Definitely would have been good to make it consistent if we had time.
  • Yeah. We kept mentioning that someone should do this and then never did because there were more important things, so it never ended up happening.

Overall, good feedback, and the answer to all of it is insufficient bug testing and insufficient time lol. I hope you still liked the game despite the bugs and inconsistencies!

All very understandable for a jam game :)

Everyone said it, but it is overcooked with dice!

Good submit, I can see that it is very polished :)

Developer

I'm glad you thought so!

I loved the visuals and the audio. This game had so much polish! I'm not very good at cooking games, and couldn't quite figure this one out at the start. Even after I had, I kept losing my dice in the sea. Overall, a great game - just not one for me.

thanks for the praise! I'm tempted to spend some more time polishing the experience after the jam

Nice overcook themed game.

This game reminds me of Overcook simply because of its style and gameplay. That is what makes this game enjoyable for me.

Different and creative way to use the theme in combination with overcooked style gameplay.
