Nice game, I can see how the pop up start to get insane.  I agree with some of the comments that I wish the track was not blocky and wider. Would be cool to add other racers in the future. Nice work.

Developer

If I do an endless version, I'll be sure to tag you !

Wow i was not expecting the end xD

This was so fun and such a creative game! Great job!

Developer

The twist is a loop : how clever me :p. I'm glad you thought it was fun !

Finished it! I gotta say, even though the controls weren’t perfect, I still got totally hooked — it was fun! There's real potential here.
I really enjoyed the progression especially how at some point I started earning money super fast — wish real life worked like that

Developer

Yeah, if this was IRL, I would amass like 50 millions, then I'll go back to my parents house !

Very fun game with a surprisingly good story for a jam game. My only complaint is that the track felt a bit unnatural to go around at first because it was so blocky, but maybe that was part of the point. Either way, good job!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it. And yeah, i wanted a complicated 1st track and a way too easy last track to represent running becoming pointless. But the 1st and second track seem more unfair than challenging and I apologize for that. Making a compelling track on such a small surface was out of my reach.

Submitted

Quite a nice twist on incremental idea. I kinda hated that track was blocky, very unnatural and frustrating just to hit on corners :D Should have made like a real race track.

Progression maybe feels a bit unbalanced and car mechanics could be improved, but quite a nice game overall.

Developer

I agree, I was not able to make interesting tracks. I wanted to make challenging tracks and I ended up making them unfair. The car physics would also benefit from better brakes and less drift. But the unbalanced progression is intended and it tells a story !

What a great game! I love the layers of interaction that I am contextually switching between. When I begin to get good at driving, I  risk a little time and make a choice what to buy... The only challenge I am having is figuring out how to transfer the money I made into my bank account.

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it. Sorry if my UI was unclear. The 1st line is the current money you have (after expenses), the 2nd the overall money you've ever gathered, and the last one is how much money you make by Lap.

You’re too smart for designing this! I usually don’t play any racing games, but everything else in your game made it really hard to put down.

Nice racing game! Easy to control and the game has a nice variety of levels, making it never boring. Great Job!
PS- I ghosted all the phone messages :D

What an ungrateful child XD No but I'm so happy you like it !

Short and sweet! Cars controlled well, simple but solid, and it was fun trying to improve my lap time. Of course the management aspect quickly took over. Glad he got to have a happy ending! If you decide to work on this some more, I’d recommend adding some light engine/tire noises, maybe some squeaking sounds when you pull a tight turn. Even little bump sounds when you hit a wall. Little bit of audio/visual feedback add a whole ton to the feel of the game. I’d be careful not to add too much feedback because it might mess with the atmosphere of the story, which is pretty gentle. Thank you for your game :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you. I'll be sure to add more feedback if I betray the moral of this game and make an actual idle game out of it ahah.

And the game had bump sounds when you hit the wall, haven't you heard it ? But yeah, it was missing a lot of other SFX/VFX to make the feeling juicier.

This was really cute! It was a fun challenge trying to manage racing while keeping track of everything else. I probably shouldn’t be texting and driving but I’M TRYING TO RUN A BUSINESS!!

Great job with this entry! :)

Developer

TSM. Coming from your team, it means a lot. And yeah I tried to tell a story about burnout and neglecting family member. And from the reply I got, the message was received.

Really interesting concept to make an top-down, racing, narrative, incremental game. I wouldn't have thought to combine them, super creative and I got addicted. great job!

Developer

I agree. My game is not perfect, but I've tried a lot of racing game from this GameJam and yet mine is still the only one that combines it with incremental. Good for me I guess ahah.

Loved the task of having to drive while building up your upgrades and car, although at times it felt odd switching between the two (controls wise), as I'd have to slow down to read and click, when I really just wanted to beat my high score. I also really liked the bit of narration and story you added! Great submission!

Submitted

I was expecting some kind of idle game but the main loop keep providing a lot of ressources so that's cool and add impact to the subtle narration you're building around. In not much time, I was surprise twice :D

Developer

Yeah, a tricky part was balancing the game so that driving is OP at the start, but then is useless compared to the idle widget. Reinforcing the message of the story.

Submitted(+1)

Nice game, well told story through "simple" gameplay mechanics (I know they don't always feel simple while we're programming and bug testing, haha).
The phone covering up the screen was a great touch, it really felt 'distracting' in a 'let me get back to work' kind of way even though it was your parents texting you to tell you how great you were doing. Also was nice seeing the 'loop' as a built-in mechanic. Yeah, overall good job!

Developer(+1)

Once i had done 1 idle game generator, I just had to copy paste them and change their skin. What took a lot of times was : balancing the game so the events of the story happen at the RIGHT time, and programming stuff that were important for the story, but would only be used once (like the widget to upgrade your car, or the widget to improve your money/lap, or the timer).

And yes, the phone is supposed to annoy you, that's why you can only ghost your parents for the 3rd message. But by the end of the 3rd cup, you understand where were the real priorities.

This is a clever way to tell a story! :D I like how you effectively get distracted from the game early on. It's a really creative variation of clickers game, that uses the gameplay loop to tell something meaningful. Very nice work!

Developer

I'm just glad I was able to convey the story and that people understood it !

Submitted(+1)

The end!! :')) 💙
This game had a really nice progression, and I loved how the narrative unfolded!

Developer

thanks. It's a cute ending yeah !

Submitted

The ramp up to the ending is a great use of gameplay to convey the narrative! I wasn't expecting such an emotional moment from a jam game.

Developer

Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of people trying hard to find a way to convey narration through gameplay. Sometimes, they are separated and it works just fine. But I had the idea for a racing idler, and decided it would be a good way to tell a story about gridings over complicated mechanics but also career choices.

Submitted(+1)

This is a fantastic idea. An idler mixed with a racing game. Expand on the racing concept and it would be GREAT.

Developer

I thought more people would have a similar idea, but the other racing games I saw were had different gameplays.

Submitted(+1)

Great mix of genres!

Developer

best mix since the invention of chocolate and bananas.
