Very interesting take on the theme, reminded me of QWOP hahaha

Developer

Thank you, qwop was definitely a big inspiration!

I like the idea, and the shoe lace physics were solid and worked surprisingly well.

It was very difficult, but I suppose that is the point! I tried repeatedly, and slowly got better at the controls, but couldn't quite get the knack of it enough to get a proper knot.

Good job :)

Developer

Thank you! Hope you managed to tie your shoes, even if not by the traditional way!

Very creative idea! Unfortunately, despite trying my hardest, I couldn't go much beyond crossing the two laces. The fact that there are 20 DIFFERENT BUTTONS you need to use simultaneously just to move the two hands is simply too much for me. I felt like I was playing a video game for the first time, haha. Maybe if it was playable with a controller I could more easily wrap my head around it (you know, two analog sticks, two pairs of bumper/trigger buttons for up/down, d-pad and face buttons for 8 fingers total). But still, I feel it ends up being a bit overcomplicated. In QWOP for instance, you only have 4 buttons. So perhaps adapting a simpler control scheme will benefit the game.

Regardless, really cool submission! I'm sure some people with more patience will make really cool knots, it's just too hard for me :p.

We are considering a simplified control scheme.

It was REALLY hard, at some point I just gave up and pressed "I'm Done" to see what would happen, and it looks like you put much work into this game. I usually play with IJKL instead of OKL; so I changed that, but it was interesting

Developer

Thank you, we did work very hard on it. Hopefully it was enjoyable! Glad to hear remapping the buttons worked for you. Some users experienced some problems with it.

Great concept, very original. Unfortunately I've surrendered very soon, because the controls were too much for me. The loop theme is there, in a very different way that other proyects. Good work!!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it, and I hope it wasn't too frustrating haha!

Crazy game! This is QWOP but much more advanced! It is so hard to tie a knot and I have to invent new knot on the spot. This is definitely a creative game.

Developer

I'm very curious about all the creative knots people came up with

Submitted

It was fun learning how to use the controls after the initial shock of all the buttons! My first knot didn't work, but I think I can learn to tie my shoes with a few more tries :D

Developer

Definitely keep trying! Tying your shoes is a useful life skill!

Submitted

I didn't put in enough qwop hours to beat this but the concept is great!

Developer

If you take it slow, it's possible, I swear!

Incredibly creative but a whirlwind of controls! Finding a way to pair back the complexity on the controls could make for a super fun Octodad kinda goofy mayhem. The system seems complex to implement and I'm very impressed with the physics of it all. Thank you for all the hard work on this entry!

Developer(+1)

It was four days of cursing rope physics but in the end we kinda got there! But there's still much to improve, which we'll do after the jam.

Thanks for your comment! :)

Clever idea and impressively controlled physics! I got a handle on the complex controls after a bit, but still fell over immediately!

Developer

I hope the camera is still working after you fell right into it...

Thanks for playing!

Submitted

Dang that is tough! Guess I'm not the QWOP master I thought I was.

Developer(+1)

Keep trying and one day you'll be able to tie your shoes!

Submitted

yeah this game was crazy bro, i had a lot of fun despite immediately deciding a knot was way too hard for me to comprehend and i was going to reinvent the knot. it became more of a string tornado in the end, but we love it, and my celebratory walk ended in bloodshed and tears. epic game.

Developer(+1)

If you died, then you heard either my voice or my cousin's saying the only line in the game:  "woah!"

Thank you for playing!

It's dark souls of QWOP like games. Omg, the controls are sick I never expected to sit 20 minutes to tie shoe laces cause I got so invested into learning and wanted to win so bad XD I love it so much, great job!

Developer(+1)

Being compared to Dark Souls is high praise! Even if it's only the Dark Souls of QWOP like games hahaha. Thanks so much!

Submitted

It took me a lot of time to get familiar with the controls, but I really like the concept! Good game!

Developer

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

Submitted

This game was one of the most original ones I've played so far, I found it hard but in a good way, great job!

Developer

Thank you! Hope you managed to tie your shoes!

Submitted

Okay, pretty creative! I had quite a bit of fun with this one.

Some of the thing I would suggest:

  • Mirror height controls for one of the hands. At the moment, finger controls for both hands are on the inside, and pin buttons for both hands are on the inside, but e,g, button for raising  the hand is on the right for both hands, which seemed strange to me.
  • Maybe add mouse controls for camera, since it is not taken anyway. I sometimes found myself wanting for a different camera angle than the ones provided in camera presets

Also, I was a bit confused for the brief moment that I had to switch away from camera 1 and discovered that direction controls are camera-dependent. Not saying it's a bad thing, but I was half-expecting them to maintain orientation regardless of the camera angle.

Btw

no pins

Developer(+1)

Woah you did it without pins! That's really impressive! I haven't been able to do that myself hahaha

Submitted (1 edit)

Also, my shoelaces turned into earphone wires after being shaken 6_9

Developer

Yeah the controls still need some love, you are right. Thanks for the suggestions! Thanks for the feedback, I will definitely apply it.

Submitted

hahahah :') such a struggle for me but great idea!

Submitted(+1)

The fact that you thought to make a game about tieing your shoes and you did it so perfectly it amazed me. That was creative AF! When I managed to do the first knots, I laughed at how much I struggled to do it compared to how quickly I do it in real life. And the fact that there is a walking test in the end is unbelievable. Hands down the most creative idea in a game I played so far in this jam!

Developer

Thank you for checking out our game. And thank you for your kind words.

Developer

Thank you so much! Hope you left a good rating haha :)

Submitted

yes, of course I did! ;)

Submitted

unfortunatly it was impossible to me to remap some of the inputs because i could not select those :(

Developer

Oh I'm sorry to hear that! Hope you can still enjoy the experience
