I love the minigames concept. I really enjoyed the game. Also, that frog design would give me nightmares lol. I love it though.

Developer

Thank you for your nice review

Really liked the concept of using nature's food cycle as the game loop. Also loved the way you implemented each predator like a mini game. Great work!!!

Developer

We are glad you liked it

Each time the new predator appear to eat us, it's always so terrifying (especially the frog).

But yeah like the others commenters I felt a bit frustratied to go back to the worm every time I died.  But the fact that each animal was assigned a mini-game with different controls kept everything fresh. I loved the worm part, it was relaxing to just move with it.

Developer

The worm starts moving from the skeleton of the previous animal you were defeated by. We wanted to illustrate the cycle of nature this way, and we tried to make the worm objectively simpler and more engaging so that replaying as it doesn’t get in the way of the player.

Developer

Haha, thank you for the feedback, it is a psychological horror for a reason 😜(maybe also related to the ending) . We understand it could be frustrating, but in the end that makes the Loop of life haha, to help a bit, the goose level is a checkpoint and you lose on purpose, which starts ACT 2 with the new line of games, but you do start with the worm.

Great idea, unfortunately didn't make it past the goose stage though. It felt really punishing to go back to worm stage, especially because there wasn't really anything you could do better  in order to get back to where you were faster. Both the fish and goose level felt a bit unfair in terms of difficulty

Would've loved to get to the other stages as well! Overall a good job though, especially on the beautiful artwork! :)

Developer

Thank you for the feedback. We appreciate it. Mini-spoiler: the goose level is made like that on purpose, it is a type of checkpoint, and the next run is the 2nd act, from which we believe the games are way easier.

Dunno if the game broke on me but i ate the coins and then just wondered around the map vibing to the music. Pretty chill tbh

edit. ok I went back cause the other comments are talking about complete different stages and finally found the way out of the ground

fish physics had me tweaking

Developer

Haha, yes, maybe the tips we made are not super explanatory, should have spent more time on explaining the mechanics. And if you have not seen it yet, the game has an (i hope) interesting ending with cool art, just keep playing :) we appreciate the feedback, thank you

Developer

The fish have already become our local meme 😊 We expected difficulty everywhere except there.

I enjoyed the game when I understood what I was meant to do, but unfortunately, every minigame was taking forever to win. On the worm stage, I didn't know where to go. Perhaps I missed a prompt, but on the frog one, I was sat there for ages trying to make the bar go up by collecting insects. I probably misread the prompts since everyone else seems to be fine, so I won't complain too much, especially because I did actually have fun burrowing around as the worm, which by the way, looked really cool, and I also liked the tower defence-style minigame with the frog where you essentially play as a tower, taking out the enemies. The art for this game was definitely done with love, which I very much appreciate, and I think the game is actually quite soothing despite it's sinister cycle of getting eaten each time you progress. I love how you implemented the loop theme to your game, as it's unique and interesting. Well done! If you get a chance, you can Rate My Game Here.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback, yes, I agree, we have added the tutorial when the minigame starts, for example with the worm where it said "burrow up" and arrows of directions around the map. Still, I suppose it was not super explanatory, but again, we were kind of limited with time, so we did not go deep into the tutorial part. Did you happen to get to the ending cutscene? :)

Submitted

Yeah I'm not really a fast reader, so the prompts disappeared before I got a chance to finish reading them. I never got past the frog because for some reason, it takes absolutely ages. I sat there for like 10 minutes collecting the same insect over and over, and then tried another, but the bar went up very marginally and only occasionally. I'd be willing to give it another shot if you can give me some pointers because unfortunately, I wasn't able to get to the end cutscene and I would certainly love to.

Developer(+1)

Yes of course. With the worm you just have to burrow up. With the frog to get points, you have to eat any bug to create a line of 3 or more bugs of the same colour. For example, if there is RRGRR (R = red, G- green) and you eat G, then you get RRRR which will diappear of the line and give 40 points to the bar. With the fish, the tip is to race on one side as you get faster than the bigger fish, and drift around to go to middle where most fish are. Goose is a level where you lose on purpose, and then Act 2 starts with anoter line of animals. Worm, then Hedgehog where you catch green items for points, and avoid red items, and after a Fox whack-a-mole :) after that there is the ending <3. Hope it helps and you will enjoy it

Ok there we go. I managed to get to the goose stage this time. I ended up dying and rage quitting but the game is very good. Well done

Submitted(+1)

Man, I really wanted to get past the fish stage, but looping back to the very beginning was just too brutal for me! Dx

Oh well, super fun game! Each challenge did feel like there was a trick to it and once you figured it out it wasn't too hard. I think the theme of this jam inspired a lot of great ideas, that would kinda get better if they abandoned the theme or at least veered away from it. Hard to say. Either way, your game really had me engaged, well done! Great artwork too!

Developer(+1)

Yes, I suppose the fish became a bit too hardcore, but we did not have enough time to balance the difficulty, considering all the things we wanted to implement, haha. And there is an ending for the story as well, where we tried to send a message with beautiful artwork :) in case you come back

Submitted

Oh man, I figured I was missing out on something! Maybe I'll loop around after the voting period and give it another shot! ;3

Submitted(+1)

Really good idea, I love the atmosphere. The minigames are kind of hard though.

Developer

It’s very hard to balance between a game being too easy and too hard. During testing, our whole team was able to get through everything without any problems, but unfortunately, it turned out that some parts do require time to get used to.

Developer

thanks for your feedback

loved the multiple minigames, makes every animal feel different

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words

The way you implemented the food chain is really good. Honestly, your first and second games feel like classics—reminds me of Snake and Montezuma’s Treasure.

Developer

I’m glad you liked it. I’ll check out your game later—thanks for your time.

Submitted(+1)

Those fish were brutal, and resetting all the way back to worm made me not really want to keep going. :/ I love the concept, but I couldn't really get too far into it. Awesome art and music by the way. And it was a really cool creative challenge to create so many different unique gameplay styles.

Developer

Yes, unfortunately we didn’t leave enough time to fine-tune the difficulty

Submitted(+1)

Nice idea , even it really work good , best game i Play

Developer

Thank you for your time

Submitted

Nah game was best ,that attracts

Submitted(+1)

maybe I'm dumb but idk what to do after eating everything as a worm. I like the art tho.

Developer

You don’t have to eat anything there; you just need to crawl up to the surface. There’s a hole in the roots where you can do it.

Submitted(+1)

This is a charming game with incredible minigames-- each one was unique and fun to play!

Developer

Thank you

I love the concept very good implementation of the theme grood graphics and good gameplay ! Great work !

Developer

Glad you liked it

Developer

thank you!

Nice mini games with fascinating art. Really good game. (except that one big fish it scares me)

Developer

This fish became a stumbling block. I was afraid of making this level too easy, so I added three fish of different sizes, but I overcomplicated their behavior dynamics. It takes about 2–3 attempts to figure out how to pass it, but I realized that too late and didn’t add extra lives.

Submitted

nice intepretation of the theme! love the mini game! feel nostalgic when playing the frog one

Developer

Thank you, I’m glad you liked it :)

Submitted

Great intepretation on the theme, impressive work getting all those games in there in 4 days. Kinda rough when you get sent back to the dirt by that big fish lol. Surreal is a great descriptor haha. Awesome job :D

Developer

Thanks, but honestly the quality still suffered, and my friends didn’t pick up on some of the narrative moments while playing. The game has a clear progression and an ending, but I couldn’t quite fine-tune it.

Submitted

Cool series of mini games.

Developer

Thank you

A refreshing interpretation into this theme. I love the style and the little games that played into the quirks of each animal. Would definitely like to get tailgated by a big fish again!
