I loved the art style, its weirdly nostalgic. The SFX were very crunchy! (in a good way!), and I absolutely loved how cheeky the game dialogue  is! It was also relaxing just to walk around and explore.

Great submission! (my favorite character is George XD)

Developer(+1)

Nice, thanks for playing! Glad you like George, haha

The art style is very cute, and love how much character is in all the descriptions.

Developer

Nice, thanks for playing!

I was expecting to be jump sacred any second with how eerie and realistic the sound design is, especially after picking up the eyeball. But even without them I very much enjoyed my time with this game :)

Developer(+1)

Yeah, the game finds its way into feeling like a horror game even when it’s not, haha. There is potential for my next game dev step going into a horror game, maybe. Thanks for playing!

I love this game ! :) Its so cute!

I really appreciate the attention to detail. Things like the the footstep particles and sounds changing based on what material you're walking on, and the sound effects being accurate based on what ball you stash and how they collide. All nice touches to an all around cute game with a good artstyle.

I really liked the art style and the basic concept, very funny. Maybe there should be something else to do while looking for the balls, because while I was looking for the golden balls It started to drag out. I also loved his favorite tree, George :)

Good job on the game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

There’s a small detail that I didn’t hint at anywhere, but a tip is that all the gold balls are always near the normal ball.

A lot of the dialogue is my mind running wild, trying to find ideas when looking at parts of a level to place down :)

loved the retro artstyle and good charm/personality with the interactions too.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! The artists did a great job :)

I love every single aspect of this game! It is really fun! I think it would be more challenging if there were people playing golf and if you got hit you would lose!

I'm in love with the art in this game! Gustavo and Espuky are very talented. Funnily enough, I got reminded of Bug Fables before thinking of Paper Mario, probably because it's a critter running around and not an Italian plumber.

While the audio assets weren't created by you guys, it was implemented into the game masterfully. Everything that feels like it should have a sound does have a sound, and I didn't experience any weird audio bugs anywhere. Plus different terrain having different sounds is a nice addition. I had fun just spamming left and right, the flipping animation is done super well and the grass sounds were satisfying.

The writing is also very cute :) I like all the unique dialogue for trees, holes, bridges, fences, etc. I got a little scared with a couple of the balls though, I thought this might become a horror game haha.

Great work!

Yeah, we were basing the initial movement and camera on PaperMario / Octopath, but definitely, I was thinking of bug fables a little as well at some point. It worked for us this way because our squirrel was made in Spine2D, so we found a way to make it work in a 3D environment to explore around in.

The last day of the jam was largely dedicated to adding VFX and SFX; it was important to me that if something in the game can happen, it has to have a sound or some kind of visual feedback. Glad it paid off, haha.

A funny bug happened where the wind ambience did not work in the WebGL build. That was an interesting bug to sleuth out. It was a tiny tweak in the audio asset to fix it.

It was also important to me that the world is filled with tons of little commentary, so that the world feels more complete, given the environment that was made. I plastered a bunch everywhere and let my mind flow, but I also got someone else to help with that, too. Something I like about adding tons of dialogue is that only a small handful of players may discover this one specific area where dialogue happens. Some are inside some sneaky spots :)

Yeah, it has some feeling of a horror game at some points. If anything, it helps put my foot in the door for a proper approach to a horror game.

Thanks for playing!!!!

Really like this one! :) Clever idea and the visuals are awesome!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! The artists are wonderful at their work :)

Very cute little game! I think this might be the only 2.5D game I’ve come across in the jam so far — really refreshing to see.
Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I’m glad that the game can carry some uniqueness with it :)

Playing as a cute little squirrel is a lot of fun, and watching the balls pile up gives me a great sense of accomplishment. The game cleverly combines 2D and 3D, and has a distinctive style in terms of art. Overall, Fairway Forager is a really fun and enjoyable game—thank you for making it.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Nice to see that the game has some uniqueness among the entries :)

I loved the gameplay and artstyle! I think I would have enjoyed it more if there were more golfballs each level. But the interaction with a lot of things and the art really makes up for it. As for the music, it kept giving me jump-scare vibes throughout the game. Maybe something to edit if that is not what you're going for. Other than that, great job! I love the rendering style!

Developer(+2)

Yes, it was my first attempt at creating ambiance and using a PSX shader; it has some potential for more horror vibes. I think the feeling that the game’s atmosphere instills in the player is interesting, but ultimately, my goal was to try making it a casual evening vibe, but it gives some slight unsettling vibes, too, haha.

I decided on one ball per day just for dev bandwidth for the jam, but that’s a neat idea that could extend to a bigger game if need be. :)

Thanks for playing!!

It was a very cute game, I loved the squirrel

Developer

Thanks for playing!

This is the best-looking game that I have seen on the jam so far, great job!

Developer

The artists did an awesome job :) Thanks for playing!

That squirrel is so cool and I love the retro vibe to the graphics !
I was thinking, hmm wait I know that name, and you created the unity importer plugin for LDTK which i've used a lot :) you're the boss

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! That’s neat, my tool’s awareness is extending out here, that’s awesome! :) Always happy to help if you need help with the tool etc, on my importer’s discord

I love the attention to detail with the interactions, Overall fun little game, but the lack of music is kind of detrimental

Developer

Thanks for playing! I tried adding music, but it would have taken away from the atmospheric feeling of the ambience. Maybe I could have placed the music partway in the game at some point, but that’s my rationale :)

Submitted(+2)

Really cool Artstyle ! The game needs a little more things, but overall it's really cool !

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+2)

maybe the bushes are friends lol

Developer

Yup, perhaps they are, haha

Submitted(+2)

Very good graphics. Love the dialogue of the squirrel. I felt the game was slightly repetitive but finding unique golf balls was fun.

Developer

Yeah, it certainly leans in the direction of a casual exploration-based walking sim; I would say that intrinsic motivation is what drives a majority of the game’s fun as well, so its enjoyment can be subjective.

That said, there could be a lot more things added to improve the back-and-forth trips, but that would be for something outside the scope of a jam.

Thanks for playing!

Great job with the game. I love the dialogue. The sound effects are good, but I wish you had some music. The graphics are excellent though. The mix of 2D and 3D looks great. It's also fun that the golf balls have different looks.

Developer

Yeah, I was considering adding music, but it would have taken away from the atmospheric feeling of the ambience. Maybe I could have placed music partway in the game at some point, but that’s my rationale :)

Thanks for playing!
