That was incredible and horrifying :) This has such an insane level of polish, I'm surprised it's not one of the most popular games in the jam. My favorite part was the boost crystals, and thank you so much for adding checkpoints.
10/10 would kill an ancient god again.

I love this game! It has a super cozy vibe and incredibly charming sounds. It would be such a calming and a chill experience, although the timer kept cutting me off too early. Levels 2, 3, and 5 felt very RNG dependent since a bad bounce could send you back to the start or take 30 seconds away, where you would punished by the timer. Other than that I really enjoy the style and overall vibe! I think you did pretty slick job! :)
I'm not even going to lie, I'm not sure if I'm just sleep deprived, but this game me the chills. You crushed the sound design and the atmosphere was incredible. Despite the oppressive atmosphere, note that said 'lucky guess' made me laugh. That was so funny. This game made me feel and you nailed it. Keep up the good work. :)
Awesome that you fixed it! :) Round two against the big guy!!! I liked the fight! I brought him down to one stack left, but narrowly lost.
In the rematch, somehow the pot did not pay out and I got stuck in big slick's purgatory. I could fold and check, but I could never call or raise. I think my chips were confused and scared. So I started checking out of morbid curiosity until I won a round . After a while I finally won a single chip that was instantly put back in the pot.
After months of purgatory I was able to somehow trigger the loss condition and win the poker tournament after restarting. A completely unintended emotional roller coaster. Big slick's purgatory is something I will always remember fondly. I am now staring at him and refusing to hit the streets, as I know he would do the same for me.
I had a blast, thank you for participating in the jam! Worth coming back for.
Mistakes were made, what's crazy is that I almost got away with it if bodies teleported instantly. It seemed easier to make the player's pieces in 3D, however I didn't realize how much harder that would make to bot to program due to my engine knowledge. I definitely made an oil painting for a napkin here.
The system I made is super modular. I would have made so many more chess pieces such as the elephant, camel, tiger, and more if I wasn't debugging my bot.
Granted, we didn't have all of the time in the world, I had to prioritize making the game I was imagining because I wanted an outdoor section too. Still it's a little crazy how many inefficient computations I can make at once without lag.
I love sharing nightmare code stories. Half for learning sake, and half for amusement. I think I might have an idea why you had Area2D detection issues. body_enterd only detects bodies while area_entered only detects areas. It's so easy to overlook.
(Congratulations on your fist game jam game by the way!! I loved it)
Evaluate position is more simple than you might think! Its a function that returns the score of the current board. The bot tries literally every possible combination of moves, than scores the end result.
| White has a queen (9) | Black has a knight (3) | = 6 |
| White has a pawn (1) | Black has a rook (5) | = -4 |
Then score bonuses would be given if a pawn is close to promotion, the king is close to the center, the rook is cutting off the king's squares. etc.
That's why the bot is so capture hungry. It sees a piece it can take, but can't evaluate it getting taken back BECAUSE of detection issues. The pawn that could take the queen only sees an empty square.
Unfortunately you can't see my work in action because of my detection issues, otherwise my bot would roughly be a 600-1000 elo. In my opinion, the sweet spot for a game jam where some people can be beginners.
Thank you so much for leaving a comment by the way, made my night!
That shmuck never stood a chance!
Presentation wise, this is one of my favorite games in the Jam. I loved the atmosphere, characters, voice acting, and vibe of this game so much. The creative direction was knocked out of the park. Ya killed it!
When I got to Big Slick I heard 'that shmuck never stood a chance' and 'better luck next time pal' at the exact same time. Then, the screen sided to black. Regardless, I had a great time and I love the world you have built. Keep up the awesome work! :)
Awesome game! It was satisfying sliding to break the stone trolls, I really appreciate how the music changes when you are in combat, at rest, and in the boss fight. Only thing I would recommend looking into: the camera has a bit of jitter. However, I liked gameplay a lot and it didn't stop me from beating the game!

I beat both maps and had a good time! I'm a big fan of games where you are part of a team like this. It kind of reminds me of Ravenfield in a good way. At one point I had a reloading bug where I couldn't shoot as a the propeller hat orb, but a quick death had solved it. Overall I think it was pretty fun capturing flags with my Orb brothers.

Incredible game! Would seriously consider putting it on Steam. The amount of polish in this feels professional and clean. Very unique concept and great execution. :)
Only critique , I would make some of the recovery options faster or some parts more forgiving. Great game and I had a blast once I get the hang of the controls.
I really love this game! I love chess and roguelikes and this is a great blend of the two. That being said at the start I was incredibly confused, if you ever plan to take this game further I would recommend an interactive tutorial. Even after beating the game I am still confused on the point values of each piece. That being said once I understood it It was fun!
