A really creative game, I love how the hero gets upgrades whenever you win, and you move on to the next level whenever you lose - that's a really cool way to have that push & pull!
The level designs were annoying to deal with, the gaps between platforms were very small and the flings were short range, so the majority of flings I did ended up bouncing my zombies off the walls. It was very sluggish to even get the enemies to the hero, to the point where there wasn't really room to strategize with how the enemies are flung.
The animations were top notch!
Does the hero keep the upgrades after dying? It feels like they reset.
It's a great idea making the player choose an upgrade for the enemies between rounds, made for some interesting decision making and fits the theme really well. I liked the slowmo when you are aiming, I would consider adding a 2nd jump if the player selects the alien while it is in the air, so then the player can redirect the attack (probably using the slowmo again), I think it would lead to some more exciting gameplay. But it's still great as it is and it looks amazing
Thank you for sending this over to me it was such a joy to play through! Your artwork is beautiful it gives extremely polished flash game vibes for sure! Everything about the presentation is great from the quirky monster sound effects to the subtle particles.
In terms of gameplay the concept is relatively simple yet easy to understand and there is a layer of complexity due to the layout of the levels, the way the monsters move and the periodic upgrades of the hero that improves the overall engagement.
In terms of improvements I think some level diversity (in terms of themes/biomes) would help a lot & maybe considering giving the players a skill system to add more interactivity beyond just flinging their little alien guys.
I think the hero upgrade system works well and fits the theme great but maybe it could be reworked to include buffs for the players aliens at the price of buffing the hero too I’m not sure the finer details of that but was just a thought I had.
In terms of the layout of levels maybe adding traps that can hurt both the players aliens and the hero would make navigating that a little more fun :]
Very high quality stuff, as usual! The fact that you make such high quality products with pygame is inspiring :) The art is great (especially the hero), the music fitting, and having to pick the worst upgrade for your enemy is a fun mechanic (could be more fun with more upgrade variety but that’s asking for too much in a game jam). I also had more success playing it slow rather than slinging all aliens up, and at some point after having to upgrade the hero’s aim he was pretty impossible to reach. Overall though, super polished entry with impressive gameplay and variety!
Real fun take on the theme; fits it perfectly! I felt a little friction in the gameplay when trying to fling the aliens upwards in some levels; I wanted to just go crazy and fling aliens at the hero rather than be slow, methodical, and precise to make them climb up platforms. Still, it was pretty fun. The idea of making the hero stronger after each success is very creative.
I’d love to see this idea with even more variety in the future. Like maybe some aliens that can be launched from really far or maybe they are really bouncy, or explosive…? Really, the possibilities are endless. Great work!
Nice take on the theme, fun to play, and beautiful art. Nice work all around!
Amazing concept and incredible execution! A guide showing where the monsters will go when launched might've been nice.
Love the art. Very easy to understand the gameplay. Really well done!
Is there an end? I can't stop playing!
Great concept, art is phenomenal and controls/UI were very clean and easy to understand. Nice work.
I enjoyed your entry a lot, thanks for circling back to play ours!
There are five stages. You actually “win” by losing each level, with a final score based on how many times you killed the hero. We were really rushing the balancing/playtesting phase at the end, so the pacing may be a bit off.
Thanks for playing!
Thank you that means a lot! Out of all the games I've played today, yours is the most polished and inline with the theme. I'll give it another go today and see if I can make it to the end screen and share that!
Clever mechanic and nice art!
Very well done!
Thanks for playing! I agree the artist did a great job!
Love the audio for the monster scream lol.
A bit difficult but enjoyable.
Yes, the sound guy did a great job with all the gurgling alien sounds. Thanks for playing!
Addictive, fun mechanics, great art style, the sound effect from the little monsters is a suburb.
reallyy addictive
cool mechanics and of course
hero power ups
I love it :))
Holy crap that idea is PHENOMENAL. What's even better is that your skill tree levels up the hero and not you! That's so smart!!!
