This was really neat! Biggest complaint is the lack of a save/checkpoint system, especially since it takes a long time to move around and progress. It was interesting trying to count the enemies to see whether you should stand your ground, or just let your host be killed and have someone else pick up the sword.

Graphics are nice, especially the satisfying thwack when you hit someone with the sword.

Nice work for 48 hours!

The graphics were amazing! The combat is also really cool, I just think its a little annoying that you can get insta-killed and then have to play through the entire thing again. Really though, that's my only complaint, but it does get pretty frustrating. Really creative and excellent combat system though!

Developer

And I absoultely agree, it is frustrating. We never really had a plan for level progression in mind :P So happy you liked the game though, cheers!

This is such a cool game, I don't think I've ever played one like this before. The graphics for the grass and the sword were so pretty and well done! I wish that there was more detailing to the level, like dirt for the path for the flowers to grow from. Once I got a hold of the controls it was kind of mesmerizing to toss the sword and attack to make more plants haha. I would have loved to see the plants grow out more with time as you progressed through the level. I think there's definitely lots of room to develop this idea more and would love to see updates! Great work from both of y'all!

Developer(+1)

Yes! I think you really hit the nail on the head for our ambition with this project. We crammed as much of as we could but I would love to add all the details you described and more :D Thank you!

Absolutely love almost everything about this game. The aesthetics, sound effects and music all come together and really sell the "Lo-fi" part of the title. The only thing I find a little unfortunate is that there isn't more to encourage you to keep switching hosts, almost the opposite is happening with the combo counter resetting any time you switch. This means you are in a way rewarded for staying with one host and playing this like any other game instead of playing to the uniqueness of the "you are the sword" theme. Other than that this game is very well executed with every action feeling incredibly satisfying.

Developer

Wow, high praise, thank you! Your criticism is well founded and the mechanic was very much an effect of having very little time to develop the game. I agree that this system would have to be reevaluated if we were ever to release this project as a full game. Thank you for the feedback :)

the pixel particles looks soooo good. the idea of sealing the consciousness of nature into a giant sword is kinda cool.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, juiciness was really important for this one. Happy you liked it!

The small details, such as the trail left by the sword, the particles, and the screen shake, truly add a sense of polish to this game. The creativity of displaying the sword's health points through its sprite is impressive.
Throwing the sword was challenging, maybe increasing its spin speed or eliminating the spin altogether and simply pointing it in the throw direction would be beneficial. Nonetheless, it was still incredibly satisfying to throw the sword and smash through 4 enemies at the same time.
Overall, this game is truly amazing!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I actually tried tweaking the mechanic of the sword throw to have no spin during the game jam but we decided against it since we felt that a higher level of challenge would be more interesting given the short amount of time we had to finish the game.

Absolutely adore the artsyle! And what an interesting take on the theme as well! I had so much fun and it got addicting ahaha

Developer(+1)

That's great, thank you! Whoagie does good work indeed, if I do say so myself :)

Loved the artwork, and the music changing volume based on the swords health was a great touch, definitely one of the best entries ive seen this jam

Developer

Awesome, thanks! The volume change+sword health was really a spur of the moment idea but it just fit so well. Glad you liked it!

You're a sword now! So glad to see another interpretation on the concept. Still very different and very cool!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, it's great to see different outcomes for similar ideas.

I LOVE the feeling of bashing this sword into the ground. Great animation, camera movement and particles , great job !

Thank you for playing and saying!

Developer(+1)

That aspect was important to us, thank you for pinpointing it!

Amazing idea!

The attacks have a lot of impact and feel very nice, especially the sfx made them feel juicy!

I also like that the sword isn't just any old sword, but has this "blade of nature" thing going on. The music was also fitting.

Great game with a lot of potential for more content! :D

Thank you for taking the time!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words! I love the juiciness aspect of game design. :)

The concept is very interesting! Also i love the animation of the plants growing once you defeated an enemy. It could be interesting to add more mechanics for the sword, for example the possiblity to "roll" once they dropped you. Also adding new kinds of enemies could be interesting.

Good luck!

Thank you for playing, yes we discussed some about interactivity when being "host-less" but time and all that.

Developer(+1)

And to add to Whoagies reply, we wanted to really stay focused on the theme with roles reversed such that you being a sword means that you cannot move. However, I do think having some mechanic to influence your surroundings when host-less would've been nice. And also yes, more enemy types for sure. :)

Pretty cool, I suck at it but I love what your going for and there's a lot of potential in the core mechanic.

Thanks for taking the time, I suck at it too

Developer

Hehe, yeah difficulty and balancing wasn't in the budget.

very satisfying smash animation

Get planted! Thanks for taking the time! :)

Developer

Awesome, glad you like it!
