cool game nice visuals, congrats on finishing the game jam

An interesting proof of concept, such difficulties arise in a 48h jam. Would be interesting to see in your proper intended vision. Good work on what you have, and fingers crossed the next jam goes a little smoother.

I'm glad I caught your tutorial/explanation on stream. Sorry that your tutorial got all bugged up. I really enjoy games that give the level of flexibility that your rope mechanic does. You're on to something here! Well done.

Feels like the gameplay is missing that tiny something - like upgrades or more incentive to play with risk. Not gonna knock it for lack of scope though. That rope mechanic must have taken a bit to get working so nicely. Well done.

Congrats on making this in 48 hours. Well done!

Really fun game, so bugs here and there but it is a jam so no worries. Sound effects where really nice 10/10.

I really like the concept of having to rope zombies together to kill them with your limited resources, really nice bit of game design. As others said it's easy to just kite the zombies and kill them without rope but it's understandable given the length of the jam and I can easily see how more could be added to this game to add variety and encourage different player tactics. Great work!

The concept is very good, it's fun to throw ropes, trap zombies and throw grenades. The voice lines give it a lot of charm too.

The lasso seems really cool, but I'm not really finding it effective against the zombies. Since they always move towards you, it's easy to get them into a group and kill them all with one grenade, without using the lasso at all. Also, as far as I can tell you need one grenade per wave in order to kill the zombies, but when I got to wave 3 I didn't get a grenade and thus couldn't progress any further.

Ignoring bugs, the main problem with this game concept is something called "kiting." Kiting is a movement style which can be used in many games to group enemies together by circling the group. Because paths of pursuit tend to naturally converge on the object of the pursuit, zombies that always move in the direction of the player will ultimately end up grouped together, rope or no rope. If you want players to have to use the farmer's key ability, you have to remove the ability to kite.
This can be accomplished by giving each zombie a slightly different movement pattern (i.e having one zombie always try to move towards where the player will be, while a dumber zombies moves towards where he's been), making their movement more erratic and staggery, and making some zombies faster than others.

Agreed. Thank you for the helpful comment!
I had debated spending more time on the zombie movement but given it's a jam game it felt nice to allow the players to use their kiting tactics if they preferred instead of forcing a certain playstyle - it's certainly requires a bit more patience! Given more time however we absolutely would have added more to their movement (and have different types of zombies for more variation again) to absolve that issue and encourage use of the main rope fun

The lassoing mechanic is very very fun. I would really like to see this game polished and finding new ways of interacting with the zombies and the environment.

Developer(+2)

Thank you! Definitely hoping to add some complexity in those domains after the jam

Like  the idea. the concept is mostly here. but lots of bugs and freeze.

The tutorials don't seems to validate when you're done and the controls are not really displayed.

But kuddos for participating and submiting. jams are hard :)

Wow, this is an original idea. I liked the idea of having limited grenades to do the whole mission with.

Unfortunately when I tried to start the second level it seemed to freeze.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and the feedback! Agreed. Planning to update the game after the jam at the very least to sort those bugs, and potentially to add the dynamic music system which was the original plan as well

Love the idea, and the presentation is pretty charming, especially the yeet sfx when the farmer hurls a fuel grenade at a hoard!

I did run into some issues however!

  • There's a tree that can't decide which side of a fence it is on at the top of the map (tutorial 3)
  • If you run out of grenades, there doesn't seem to be another way to kill zombies
  • Zombies aren't very thretening - they don't really move fast enough to trouble the farmer, and they are pretty easy to outsmart, even without using the rope mechanic
  • I placed a rope between two fence posts, but 90% of the chasing hoard just stepped through it. I bombed them, then didn't have any more grenades for the few that were caught by the rope
  • Tutorial levels don't seem to detect when all the zombies are dead
  • Game over seemed to lead to a wave-2 screen that never transitioned! Pressing escape made an "oh crap" voice play, which seemed oddly appropriate!

Thank you for the feedback! All points I absolutely agree on as well. Some plain tech errors that went wrong in the last hour, others due to time constraints. Definitely hoping to at least update the game to have those quality of life details improved after the jam.

The art for the game is gorgeous XD.  The mechanics were  amazing. I hope you will have an extended, polished version of the game. Thank you so much for submitting such an awesome game :]

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words, it means a lot. And we are definitely planning some improvements! Including much more sound and music design as well

The rope physics was quite impressive but unfortunately, as I see you noted in the comments, the bugs are plentiful. Wasn't getting any grenades and, levels seemed to freeze when they were complete/I died

Submitted(+1)

Cool idea! I liked the visual style and the dialogue quips were funny.  I wasn't finding any grenades on the ground though so I got stuck when I ran out of them. I think with the bugs fixed you have a solid game though!

Developer(+2)

Thank you! Yes the second "endless" level has a bug that doesn't award them properly, definitely upset about that!

Developer(+1)

We had some last minute tech issues and are sorry for the resulting bugs! We hope you had fun with the levels that do work.

Controls are: Mouse 1 to throw out lasso and then again to tie to nearest post. Pull lasso too far from its post and it will break. Mouse 2 to cut nearby rope. Space to throw a grenade. WASD to move. Escape to pause game.

Each level loads what should be the level after it (meaning tutorial 1 is unavailable), and the second endless level (which is loaded through the first fight the hoard level) is impossible to beat past wave 3.
