Finished the game twice just to be sure about something and here is my honest feedback :

- It's fun ! I like the fast pace, I felt the camera was a bit to hectic at first but felt good while playing it :)

- You must know it already, but this is extremely repetitive, it lacks rooms and even the few existing rooms look alike, there are even a few ones where they pose no challenge at all. Some levels end up generated as a straight line with no danger ! Here is my advice: always start the game with a non-procedural tutorial, where the player would go through a straight line that shows some traps on the sides, so the player gets used to the controls and still gets to see what's waiting for him. Then, get rid of "empty" rooms in your procedural generation.

- It lacks some sound effects, like a noise when passing near close a deadly danger, dying or touching a wall. This is a very arcade and fast-paced game, we loose sensation for not having those !

- The most interesting part of the game is turning rooms, but they are too rare !

- I understand the nature of joining the levels together, but I don't think putting a level after another one is the best take. Again, my advice : still joining the levels together, but in another way, something like merging the rooms together so it makes a totally new room !

So in short, gameplay is good fun and easy to control but level design is a bit underwhelming !

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, especially the non-procedural tutorial bit, these points are incredibly valuable for the next jam (and a potential postjam version)

I'm also aware of the turning rooms, but if I added more turns in different directions it would break the hacky level generator with the time constraints.

Anyways, thanks again for your honest feedback, it's incredibly valuable.

I liked the idea of the game. Turning the way we need to go is pretty challenging and changes our habits. The movement is'nt really smooth and sometimes we can touch a little the wheels without loosing but it's still a lot of fun ! Good work you did there

This game was super fun! i devoured it in less than a couple minute, You could do it longer with more level variety, obstacle variety etc and it would be super cool.
If you want to go even more roguelike you could add collectibles in the rooms and some kind of incremental reward for each second left in the timer at the end of a level.
add in some secondary loop, some powerup and boom, you have an amazing game!

Only problem for me (other than the wonky camera) is that the theme is not really present (any game could say his levels are joined togheter) but that asyde, i had a lot of fun! good job!

Developer

First of all, thanks a lot for the really extensive feedback, I appreciate it a lot.

I really like the idea of powerups and rewards for doing well, but due to a rough start on day one after which I revamped my idea I didn't really have time. Definitely something I'll do if aim going to make a post jam version.

Than to give you a little bit of perspective on the theme, I tried to make it so that after seeing 1-1 and 1-2 you could do 1- Joined together with a tighter time limit. This would've been an interesting spin on the idea that you normally don't know what coming in a roquelike. Sadly this really doesn't comet to fruition due to a lack of variety in the level generation.

As I also said below, the camera keep speed should've been correlated with player velocity, but I just didn't come up with that during the jam.

Again though, thanks a ton for your feedback, you gave some really great tips that'll help me to improve next time.

This was fun. I know others have already said this, but the camera movement really needs to be smoothed :)

Developer

Yeah, I shouldve correlated the camera keep speed to the player velocity, but I couldn't come up with that during the jam, thanks for playing!

This is really fun! Camera follow was very aggressive at the start, but I got used to it fairly quickly. The joining together aspect wasn't super clear in the midst of the game, and it would've been nice to see a bit more variety in the levels. Once I got a good hang of the controls I had a lot of fun drifting dangerously close to saws. Good work!

Nice game! The camera movement was a bit too fast for my taste. Also, I would add some more sound and screenshake to feel more impact. But besides that, good work for a 48-hour game.

Hello! The camera movement together with the movement feels really good, and somehow the artist-half of our duo finds this game really relaxing to play. We like it a lot!

I like the camera movement and how the levels are randomly generated :) if we could vote for game design, I'd give you 5/5 for that :D

Nice game ! liked it :)

great game. i think it would be easier to play if you show a view of the map generated. also i found a bug. the player gets stuck sometimes around corners.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! Im aware of the bug, it was just too hard to replicate and I couldnt fix it.

I intentionally didnt give a view of the map, the idea is that in the first levels of a stage you have the time to explore a make some mental notes, and than in the final stage , when the levels are joined  together, you can go full speed and barely get it in time. The reality of the situation however is that the levels are not diverse enough to really get that feel (e.g. theres no branching paths like I wanted), Im quite bummed about that, great to hear you liked it though!

This was fun to play! but I do think it needs more tiles as it does get repetitive around the end

Developer

Yeah Im aware of that, the procedural generation was a real challenge to get in (esspecially after a slow start on day 1)

The style of this game flows really nicely, nice job!

i like the audio so much and the art too!! but the player is verry fast in my opinion, great job at all

This game absolutely earns its title! I was in a nice flow state basically five seconds into the game that lasted through the majority of it, and a roguelike structure fits the mechanics perfectly.
Refine the level generation to create more complex gameplay as you progress, add a mechanic that encourages players to take risks and modulate their own difficulty and you've got yourself a 10/10 game, really great stuff!

Really fun to play although the camera may get a little dizzy sometimes. I do not see clearly how it fits the theme. Congrats on creating procedural level generation!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, th le game fits the theme by joining the levels together, first you play 1-1 than 1-2, and than you play 1-Joined which is the levels joined together.

The idea is that if you've seen 1-1 and 1-2 once you can do 1-Joined with less time, but due to time constraints I could not make the level generation distinctive enough that I could execute  this effectively.

Oooh, I got it now. Such a cool idea joining the levels!!! Double congrats on that!

fun lil arcade game

Great looking game and I dig the music. The feel to the movement was really nice. The game could have used a little more ramp up in difficult or variance to the levels, but I enjoyed the game and would play more of it. Well done.
