For sure a fun and enjoyable game. Nice take on the theme. I enjoyed the visuals and the simplistic game play. The idea of sitting back and watching you plan come to life, or fail miserably, was fun and fit the theme for sure. Nice job!

Thank you :)

This is a cool game ! I really like game where you only watch the results of your decisions :O
Making this AI must have been hard :/ So GG for that and for doing everything else !

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much :) Me too! I just like to watch them

The AI in this version is actually very simplistic but you are right, in general developing AI is really hard!

Here I just make them attack the nearest enemy soldier to them ad move in a straight line towards them. For now it is a really inefficient but effective double for-loop that gets executed every frame to update the target.

I have a collisionbox that checks if the target is in range and then executes the attack. The collision between the fighters is handled by the physics enginge of Godot and uses another collision box

Reminds me a lot of Totally Accurate Battle Simulator! Not really that fun as its just that one unit, but a good start to an awesome game. One suggestion I might make is to make sure the player isn't already clicking on a unit before spawning a new one as I tried placing all of my units in one place without moving my mouse and all but maybe 6-7 flew out of the screen :)

Developer

Jep that is a bug I fixed now :)

Yesterday I implemented a second unit. Gonna update the game once the jam is over.

Haven't played TABS myself but I saw some videos on it and it may have influenced me subcounciously

Fun little game! With more time I think this definitely could have been a super cool strategy game. Placing down the units and the animations with the hats flying off were a really nice touch.

super fun little game. however, I found that my men flew out that the gang never de be seen again. a bow man could also have been fun so there was a little more strategy

Developer

Thanks! Yes that is indeed a bug with a quick fix. In this version you are able to place units on top of each other. The physics engine then catapults them away. I will probably implement other units soon :)

I won! Nice idea, btw.

I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, but I like the idea of spawning some fights on a map. Wish I could do more !

Developer

Sadly that is the only thing I implemented in that time but I have bigger plans for it :) Thanks for playing

The fact that you can't set up individual units was a little strange, but the idea itself was okay. The music was missing a little. Good work !

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah I made the units spawn really fast because I thought it wouldn't be fun placing that many individually. Music was planned but didn't make it in time :)

I like the simplicity in the art style. If you were to add more types of units, some kind of resource management, anything to make the game deeper I think you could have the type of game I would spend a long time playing on sites like Kongregate. It would also be nice if there was a way to place a single unit instead of holding the mouse down. Well done :)

Developer(+1)

Yes I also love the little dudes. My newer version has them celebrating at the end :D

I made the units spawn really fast because I thought it wouldn't be fun placing that many individually but I will take a look if maybe one could have both ways of placing them

Simple but fun! Flesh it out more and it could be really addictive

Great idea, liked the game a lot! Well done!

Love the idea of this game. I did not understand it at first, but as i grew to understand, i couldn't stop playing. I would say add levels of varying difficulty and a story mode and this could be a full game.

Developer (1 edit)

Hey thank you very much Kent :)

Yeah I needed to scope in a lot. The original idea at first was that you control a king on the battlefield that guides them. There would also be disasters and multiple levels as a story with differing maps. I think I will do that in the future!

Definitely, and you can also add in the king thing for a bonus or boss level if you decide not to add that mechanic in full effect.
