I liked how the crabs just started cheating going all over the course. yeah totally out of control, great job.
great little game and an idea i haven't seen a lot here, it's a bit random and i couldn't find any viable strategies but i get what you were going for, good job!
Yeah unfortunately there aren't any reliable strategies, I think the beginning when they all cram together is partly to blame, if a speedy one is caught at the back they have no chance. My original idea was to make it a management game where you have a team of crabs and you have to select the best one for the race, I might give that a try for future versions.

could you elaborate on the different behaviors of each crab? i think the red one is fastest but i am not sure.
Right now the stats are randomly generation at the beginning, but they effect stuff like acceleration, turning speed, max speed, and the amount of separation they allow from other crabs.
Excellent idea fitting the theme! But some crabs are clearly cheating. Is it part of the game or a bug ?
Good question! :D
It is a bug, but I chose to ignore it because it is quite funny, and also fits the theme quite well. I want to expand on this game some more, and I think it would be fun to keep the cheating, but somehow turn it into a game mechanic that's more predictable.
If it's predictable, it would be an awesome feature pulled the right way.

This was hilarious! Never have i cheered on a crab called Barry before so it was definitely a unique experience! Me and my girlfriend had a good time calling out the cheaters too! Sorry to see you had some loading issues but this was definitely a fab game! Great job.
The cheating crabs don't do it out of malice, they just get a bit too excited!

Lovely game and I had loads of fun watching the little crabs crash into one another for my entertainment. The only issue I found is that sometimes the crabs find ways to go past the borders of the track and land on another part of it, either giving them a extra boost or just flat out making them restart the race. Again, it was a really solid game that was fun from beginning to end :)
I'm so glad you had a good time! I should really turn off the boarder wrapping, I left it on from when I was testing. :P
I love how such a simple game depicts the theme so perfectly I really liked it <3. Clive is a cheating bastard and he should be discualified for Crab Racing Season 2021.

What are the crabs AI based on? Random or is there something else going on?

It's based on steering behaviours first introduced by Craig W. Reynolds.
It's pretty powerful because you can add different behaviours and weight them on importance. Definitely look it up if you're interested!
Unfortunately lots of people have been experiencing a loading issue relating to a font I used.

Oh crumbs! I have no clue why it's working for me then... It loads on my phone too, but isn't playable due to the orientation unfortunately.
The only thing I can suggest at the moment is you make sure Chrome is updated.

Too bad about not working in browsers! I was hoping to try it. I'm on a Mac with Chrome, same "Unsupported OpenType signature To d" error.
I'm really surprised it doesn't work to be honest, I think it might be the mixture of Chrome and Mac, it works for me but I can only say for myself.

yup! console shows unsupported OpenType signature to d, looks like its in some kind of load or validate font function running? additionally clicking gives an error "cannot read property uiState of undefined"

I've got an idea of how to fix it now, although it should enable a backup font if it can't download the one available. Ah well, I can't do anything about it now. :)
