Glad you enjoyed! Yeah the gods are fickle in their rewards.

We’ve heard some similar feedback on the map, and I’m thinking if using an arrow sprite instead of a box for the players location on the map, that was it can point to whatever direction you’re facing, rather than rotating the entire map itself.  For now, you’ll have to use the compass on the map screen and assume the top of the map is always north.

Also there’s a bug with the map viewer currently where locked doors don’t update in the map view after becoming unlocked, which would also help navigation. The Game Jam limited us to 4 colors on screen at a time, so we were limited on what we can show on the map.

Hi! glad you liked it! The map was a last minute addition, it could definitely be improved. I think using an arrow sprite for the player rather than a square would be better, but we also found it confusing not knowing what direction we were facing, so we added the compass to the map screen. I think having the compass + an arrow sprite would be the best solution going forward. We can look at adding that to a follow up build after the jam! Thanks for the feedback!

Glad you enjoyed! Praying is paramount in this game. If you pray at the right times for enough turns, eventually you'll get whatever you need to progress. We didn't really plan for that to be the case but the strategy became apparent after release and I think its pretty fun!

Glad you liked it! Yeah, items rotating along with your point of view can look disorienting, but it is a side-effect of the way we render rooms and entities like items and creatures within rooms. We could have added 4 different sprites for items based on what direction you are viewing them from, but we felt it was a lower priority given the time constraint of the jam, and doing so could also add more confusion with items like levers. In a future project we will certainly take this into account though!

Actually, just discovered our first bug, map tiles don't update when doors become unlocked! So no wonder navigation was difficult.

Oh I completely missed that!

Aw glad you liked it! Not sure what can be done about the webgl player, unfortunately.

Very fun! Love the art! All four items spawned on my third night, which was lucky for me because I did TERRIBLY on the first couple nights lol

Yeaaah haha this is definitely a game that requires multiple play throughs. Somtimes you'll get a run where you nail all the enemies on the first shot for like 6 rooms in a row, others you run out of bullets very quickly. My advice is just if you have more than have health and are fighting sluggs, pray a few times to get some bullets and maybe some heals since slugg damage is so low.

Yeah I thought about color coding locked gates on the map, but the only color we could've used for the borders other than the one we are using is the one we use for the player marker, and I felt that would be too confusing. As of now the only sides of rooms that have borders on the map are those that are just walls or those that are locked gates, which lose their border when the gate is open, so for now you just have to memorize rooms that were dead ends on the map before that now show an opening.

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed!

Can't wait to see more!

Thank you! A lot of the complexity came about naturally during the development process. We tried to take measures to curb some of the randomness or at least make the bad luck fun and engaging. Most of the targets for you to actually succeed on a roll are pretty low to account for your negative luck modifier, and there's a bunch of hidden logic with Pray and Scream actions to give you contextual benefits that are more likely to help you depending on your stats in the moment.

Oh hey! Thank you for making such a wonderful font! I didn't realize you were also in this jam! I literally saw so many of your updates in the progress channel in the jam discord but didn't make the connection. I can't wait to try out 13 Unlucky Days!

Thanks! Garrett, aka BoredSkeleton here on itch.io, did all the art. You can find some more of their work on their page!

The player talking to themselves was a spur-of-the-moment decision when I realized hiding the info bar when it wasn't needed was going to be annoying to implement lol I'm glad you like it!

The map is a game changer lol It was just a nice-to-have until I was struck with the implementation idea while walking my dog on the last day. We almost didn't even have the wall and paths showing on the map, it was almost just light squares showing where the rooms were, which wouldn't be too helpful in densely packed areas.

I agree, some sort of hurt animation for the player would be nice, but for the timeline we had we figured we'd just rely on the text box letting you know you've been struck and the health total going down. Glad you enjoyed it!

The bad luck does make it a frustrating experience at times, and we were okay with that. A lot of classic dungeon crawlers can be very punishing. Sometimes you'll have a good run and land all your hits for the first few encounters, other times you might miss five shots on the first enemy! But since the map stays the same you at least will always be able to rely on knowledge from a previous playthrough :)

Hints: Luck does not affect prayers, and when you get blessed your next attack or scream is guaranteed to hit! It can also grant you extra bullets or healing.
Screams are more effective at low health.
If you find yourself running out of ammo, try looking for more levers, there's a certain enemy in the game that drops something you may find useful!

On a technical level, Scream has a chance to skip an enemy's turn (thereby preventing you from being punished on a successful scream) and permanently lowers the monster's luck by 1 point, which makes it harder for them to hit you. Almost all enemies start with 0 luck. When an enemy screams at you the same thing occurs, except your luck resets after battle to be -3 + the number of charms you have.

A little secret for ya: you get a little bonus to your screams when you are below half health!

Beautiful art. Some gameplay quirks like bullets firing after enemies died. I also think a full screen button would be helpful as I had to scroll up and down to see what was happening at times.

Beautiful graphics, although there are some glitched/shrunken tiles that leave white space around them in some areas. I also didn't know i was supposed to be moving when it started so i just watched the floating guy move until he stopped in mid air and I thought the game froze. I am also not sure why I was sacrificed, I kept going to the right the way the camera went, but when I left the temple suddenly I was just an arrow instead of the person I was before, so I kept moving right and just got the sacrificed screen. I also think the camera should move faster if the character is going to be as fast as they are.

I think there should be something that tells you how to roll the dice. I talked to the first npc, a dice appeared, I jumped next to it, and tried every button in the controls section to get something to happen but nothing happened. I tried talking to someone else and the die said I still need to roll it, but I can't seem to interact with it in any way.

I liked finding fun angles and bouncing off everything, but it took me a while to even find any enemies. I think a camera pan to reveal enemy movement when its not your turn would be helpful, most of the time I just had to blindly aim in a direction and hope an enemy had moved there. The graphics and music were really cool! And going fast gave me a fun wave of exhilaration

I enjoyed the lore and flavor text a lot, and the character sprites were really good!

Love these fonts. We used Nudge Orb for a game jam entry for GBJam13. It's called Maze of Misfortune. Your font really helped bring it to life!

Is the Bonus Trait "Rapid Move" for the Chirurgeon supposed to trigger on the start of, the end of, or the start of end of your turn? The last option is what the text says but I wasn't sure if it's a typo.

yes

I also enjoyed the video, one thing I also plan to work on and improve is introducing the controls. All the weird button controls like A B X and Y were referring to controller support, and you can attack upwards and downwards too by holding WASD keys in the direction you want to attack, these are briefly mentioned in the controls screen but they were not adequately explained.

Thank you! Im glad you enjoyed :) Yes we do plan to reduce the hitstun and possibly add in a few invincibility frames when getting hit. I really appreciate the feedback.

Loved it! Great job!

Popping in really late to say I did get mine a while back! Its in great condition and i absolutely love the game so far

Okay will do thanks!

Hi I saw your comments about orders after like june 26 ~ being stuck in shipping. Mine was just a couple days after that so I understand the wait. However, I noticed several people were getting your updates on the shipping  situation via email.  the only email I received about this order was about itch losing my delivery address or something and instructions on how to update the order through itch, as well as several about the Ennies. Is there a way I can sign up for the shipping update emails somewhere?

Glad you enjoyed! thanks for the rating!

yup! console shows unsupported OpenType signature to d, looks like its in some kind of load or validate font function running? additionally clicking gives an error "cannot read property uiState of undefined"

judging by other comments theyre working on/or maybe have a fix for adding browser games to queue, but the game jam said games had to have a windows or browser version to get in and didnt mention mac, so its likely most games dont have a mac version

Could it be possible to see how many games we have left to rate before we can start playing games we want to play and rate those? half the ones i've had in my queue are unplayable or unfinished, i'd like to look for more complete ones to rate im just not sure how many ive already rated at this point

Im using Google Chrome

Great minds think alike! Thank you! (I know im not the account that posted the game but I'm one of the devs lol) Y'all should finish it up anyway for fun!

Doesn't load at all, can't play :/

I can't open or play anything in the zip file, and theres only a MacOS folder nothing for windows. I thought for the jam it had to be playable in browser or windows
