Hey nice game! Really satisfying catching the bombs, etc. The gameplay is really nice and smooth. For some reason I can't seem to get to the next level after the igloo – I might easily be doing something wrong but I can't click go on the level selector for level 2. Let me know if I can do something to check for you. Just checked the comments below and to confirm I was playing the online version on a Mac.

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing! This is an issue we're having with the Web GL build. Because you're playing on Mac (and obv cant download the Windows version) you could press the little settings icon at the top right corner in the level selection menu and click on "Unlock All Levels" which will, well, unlock every level for you to play from the level selection menu. Hope that helps !

I really like the VFX and animations, they made the game feel very smooth! The gameplay is also quite simple but engaging, same with the visuals 😁 I really enjoyed it!

Class. Not much else to say, it felt very complete and having controller support was great. The juice was applied in all the right places. I got an error report when I got to the igloo so you might want to have an investigate there but other than that pretty perfect.

Developer

Thank you so much ! Yeah, Web GL is pretty weird sometimes, we always recommend playing the Windows build to avoid issues. Out of curiosity, how many levels did you play ?

Submitted(+1)

Just the first one but a few times. It crashed everytime and to be honest with you I didn't think to download it. I was happy enough to mess around on the first level. I am a pretty harsh critic of platformers and so it was a joy to play with the mechanic. It was buttery smooth. I will revisit when the ratings are over. I am just trying to get at least to halfway! I have got past the 50 mark but man its hard going fitting it all in! So many games and in there own ways they have all been worth playing.

Developer

Ohhhh I see. Thanks g, I really appreciate it.  And good luck with your game rating journey btw :D

The content yo! Simply amazing how much work and polish you were able to pull off for this. Personally, I thought the bomb mechanic got a little.... in-the-way at a certain point. Don't get me wrong, I was having so much fun playing but it seemed a bit of a one trick pony after a while. The variety in level design kept me interested and the checkpoints were a good addition.

Developer

Thanks homie. We're gonna think about new ways for the player to make use of their bombs to reduce this feeling of "one trick pony". If you have any suggestions feel free to leave a comment, it's really appreciated. Thanks again !

Well, you're wonderful level designers and the variety of enemies was really refreshing. I guess, since I'm on the spot here, I would suggest just mixing it up a bit more. You've clearly got good instincts for enemy design and level design so, lean into that and just spread the bomb mechanic out a bit. It has fantastic potential and when you're looking at something from three feet away sometimes you can't see what's right in front of you. My suggestion would be to try and step away from it a bit and draw inspiration from a couple of other source that would blend well with what you've done.

One of the jam's best games!  I loved graphic, sounds and the gameplay was fantastic.

Thanks g

I think I can say that's my favorite game in the jam, I could easily pay for a full version of this, awesome job!!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks man, we'll develop this game further for sure, so stay tuned for any updates :)

This game had a simple idea and executed it really well. I think for the game jam, ramping up the mechanics or uses a little bit quicker might have worked? I really liked chucking bombs back, and catching my own bombs seemed cool, but I'm not sure the game ever capitalised on that. Possibly some emergent gameplay to look into :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback !
> "I really liked chucking bombs back, and catching my own bombs seemed cool, but I'm not sure the game ever capitalised on that"

If I understand correctly, you're saying that we can totally play the game without catching bombs (a.k.a bruteforcing the levels). If you're talking about that, then we agree with you that in trying to make the game easier for the jam, we accidentally made it so that you can (in some levels) avoid catching bombs. We will probably make the game more difficult and try to make it so that finishing a level without using bombs is something difficult to pull of, but still rewarding, kinda like a challenge, rather than an easy way out. I'd really love to hear more feedback you have about the game, as we're seriously considering developing it further. And again, thanks for playing :)

Not quite actually X) Though you can do some levels without catching bombs, I appreciate that was a biproduct of making it approachable for the jam. I noticed that while playing, if I was fast enough, I could catch a bomb, chuck a bomb, then run and catch it again in mid-air, presumably because the bombs the player throws are no different from the ones enemies do. (I could've just hallucinated it, but I don't think so X) ) This could've been a really cool puzzle, cause it felt kinda cool and unique, though I don't know how you'd utilise it, or make it easy enough to do reliably.

Developer(+1)

Ohh I see what you mean now. That's pretty funny, because we never intended for the player to catch their own bombs but now that you mention it, I think it would be cool to make this "mechanic" more interesting. Thanks again for your input !

Great artwork and animation.

Thanks :)

Ive played many games already from this game jam and this is my favourite game so far. I was enjoying so much that i forgot what was the theme, speaking of that, im not sure where you implemented it?

Overall, very good game and fun(which is most important when making a game).

Developer

Thanks G, we're glad you like it. The theme was "One time use" so we decided to have Bombs as the main mechanic, as they are, well, one time use. Beside, catching a bomb and throwing it back is a one time use action (unless you catch another bomb haha)

Your suggestion to use a controller and downloaded version seems wise. Unplayable with a tracker pad. I'll be back to play and rate on my desktop later.

Developer

Yeah it's better with a controller, although you could play using the CTRL key to Catch/Throw

Overall is really great, super juicy, and fun!
The only thing that made it hard for me to play was the levels' progression, which behaved buggily at times. Everything else is just extremely cool, good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Could you please describe the bugs you encountered so we can fix them in the future ? That would be really appreciated. Thanks again :)

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Reading the comments, it is probably a thing that happened to me only. Basically, in the level selection, screen the game freezes, the controls don't work, and the animations completely stop working. It solves itself by re-launching the game that, still, is really great.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for explaining the issue, I'll take a look at the code and try to fix it ASAP. (Probably has to do with Time.timeScale haha)

great work! Awesome Visuals!

Developer

Thanks G, we made it ourselves.
