Pretty fun game bro I think you can expend on it after the jam 🙂
Thank you !
I do plan to continue developing "Switch" after the game jam...
followed you to stay posted on new updates when ever it comes out
Excellent minimalist graphics, really tight controls, and a beautifully simple take on the theme, excellent! High marks all around!
And if you haven't had a chance to check out my game Foxy Boom Boxy, I would appreciate any feedback, thanks!
Wow, thank you so much !
I hope you were able to reach the challenging levels to fully enjoy this game...
I found the idea very interesting, and artistically, it also looks quite captivating. Congratulations!
Thank you very much ! Glad to see that you enjoyed the graphics !
Neat game, though a lot of entries in this jam are using the "turn on the lights to reveal parts of the level" as their interpretation of the theme.
I also had a lot of trouble keeping track of my character when landing from a jump due to the powerups looking like you and circling your character after you collect them.
The music was entertaining and the way the character moved felt polished.
Thank you for the feedback !
I understand what you're saying about the power-ups. Maybe I'll make them smaller for the official release of the game...
Wow! Great game and nice mechanics. I really loved the art style. Well done! :)
Thank you very much !
I'm glad to see that you enjoyed the art style.
PS : I imagine the lighting effects played a role in that ( based on your game )...
well they may have played a role, but they alone wouldnt make the graphics great. It is the combination
really good game love the graphics and the gameplay not really hard but i gave up on i think it was level 4 or something idk
anyways could you check out my game please? https://itch.io/jam/gdevelop-game-jam-4/rate/2216257 feedback is greatly appreciated
Thank you very much !
Perhaps you'll manage to pass level 4 when you have more time after the voting period...
This was realy fun !
I love this game the mechanic (particulary dash feel freedom to use) , challenge (i reach stage 9 on my phone), graphisme and particule (look great and minimalistic)
I Hope i Can clear the game completly on my pc tommorow and share my score :')
U did a Amazing job i realy love it !!!
I'm glad you had a lot of fun playing the game !
I appreciate your kind words about the mechanics, particularly the feeling of freedom with the dash.
It's great to read that you've reached stage 9 on your phone and I hope you manage to clear the game completely on your PC ( and don't forget to share your scores )...
Your enthusiasm and support mean a lot to me, thank you for the wonderful feedback !
This was quite fun!
The orb mechanic was really cool. I liked becoming more powerful as the level progressed. The platform switching was okay; it's not the most refined version of it in the jam, but it was serviceable. It's still a bit of a memory game, but a lot of invisible platforms were very intuitive, and the levels were short enough that it didn't matter much.
It took me until the second-to-last level to realize you can jump any time in midair after landing on the ground. Whoops!
As much as I enjoyed this fun game, assigning an important movement option to a double-movement-tap in a precision platformer is probably a cardinal sin. The input for the dash was quite finicky at times.
Great job! Fantastic!
Thank you so much for your feedback !
I didn't expect the double tap to be such an issue ( I actually developed a double tap addons specifically for this game to avoid having to add new keys to learn ), but I plan to allow players to customize their controls when I release the official game, so it won't be a problem anymore....
PS : I believe you're the first one to have completed the game ( and with pretty good times too ) ! Congratulations !
it's so fun when you eventually learn the mechanic, it's a bit frustrating when you need to restart the whole level just because miss jump, the audio kinda doesn't help, it's kinda rush me, but ig it's just me. At first I thought I have limited amount of time seeing timer. Turns out it's timer for speed run. I think if there's an outline of a blocks for different dimensions so I can know when i jump I won't just fell off and restart the level. Overall it's so fun. I enjoyed it.
Thank you very much for this feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed the game !
I understand what you mean about the music, and the speedrun timer does add a bit of pressure...
As for the outline of the blocks, I'm afraid it might make the game too easy, but having an action to trigger a flash and briefly reveal the platforms for 0.1 seconds could be a good idea. I'll consider it for the official release ( since I plan to keep developing this game ).
Loved this game. A little hard but certianly addictive. I thought the .using could have been more pacey to go with the action. Well done
Thank you so much for this comment !
I completely understand what you mean about the music, but I haven't found a better option at the moment.
I'll look into it more thoroughly after the game jam to make changes...
PS : Out of curiosity, were you able to complete level 4, or did you face the same challenge as others ?
tutorial is too much i just want to learn about one power ball at a time for three levels
Yes, that's true. It's a good idea, and I probably should have divided the tutorial into several parts.
I'm considering doing that after the game jam to make the game a bit more accessible...
Ahh, that some easy to learn, hard to master thing! Some coyote time for wall jumping would be nice, I too often felt like it was it, but it was not :D
Haha ! Yes, it's easy to understand but hard to master !
There's no coyote jump since you can jump anytime ( it's not dependent on touching the ground ), but in exchange, you need to be holding onto the wall to jump on it...
PS : Which level did you reach ?
Um, I guess, it was third one? The one where one of the elements inside some kind of pit, and it is surrounded by blocks, so you have to jump out of it. I almost did that, but got frustrated because I couldn't jump out >_< I mean, I did great with wall jump generally, but at some attempt I just couldn't...
Ah, I see... That's level 4.
I think no one has managed to pass it. Perhaps I should have simplified the levels...
This was really hard! Managed to get to level 4 before I had to throw in the towel personally! The controls are solid and tight, the jumps had a great weight to them and the use of particles for the abilities getting used was well done!
Also thank you for allowing for both WASD and arrow control schemes! Meant I could use up/down with one hand and left/right on the other.
Thank you so much for this feedback !
I should have added a leaderboard, I'm sure you would have reached at least level 8 or 9...
Level 4 is the first one without a safety net in case of a fall, and I didn't expect that no one would manage to pass it.
PS : I never thought of using both my hands separately to control the ball better !
Very fun game with intuitive controls. The dash ability was very responsive and easy to use. I would perhaps make the ability power up bigger as trying to hit the blue one took a few goes for me. Great concept utilises the on/off theme very well. Could definitely be made into a cool mobile game.
Thank you for the feedback !
It's already playable on mobile, although there are a few bugs and it's slightly more challenging to control the ball...
I really enjoyed this game - it seems to be the best take on the platformers with light games. I enjoyed the intuitive controls and the numerous mechanic kept the game nice and fresh. It felt so satisfying to dash however I wasn't the biggest fan of pressing it twice but I get that other people like it better that way and that it's a personal preference of mine. I wouldn't change much at all except from maybe a place where you can configure different binds but I totally understand that this is a Jam game and made under a small time. My game doesn't even have a place where you can re-configure controls. This is a really good time and, from seeing the community tab, an awesome first jam entry.
If you could give my game feedback and a rating that would be very much appreciated. I really want to know what I can work on and develop further in the future. https://itch.io/jam/gdevelop-game-jam-4/rate/2213787
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed comment !
This is indeed a first for me, and it has really inspired me to take the leap and potentially release my first full-fledged game...
I'm even considering continuing to develop this one further, so please feel free to share any improvement suggestions you might have, beyond the already planned features like control reconfiguration and adding a leaderboard on each level.
PS : What level were you able to reach in my game ( and at what time ) ?
I managed to get to Level 4 With numerous attempts at it. I kept dying after I got the Blue ball at the top. It was fun yet fustrating at the same time. I'm not the best gamer as you can tell. My best score was on level 3 with about 23 seconds give or take.
You can actually pass level 4 without dashing by using the double jump ( it's slower but easier ) :
Ok thanks a lot! :)
You even took the time to save times and progress. Amazing. I'm terrible at this kind of games, but I loved the particle effects. Level 4 was so hard! I think it feels very polished and way more of what one can expect from a jam. Congratulations!
PS: I really appreciate the 3 seconds after pauses. Nice detail.
Thank you so much for this wonderful feedback !
Level 4 is the first one without platforms to catch you in case of a fall, and after that, the difficulty keeps increasing up to level 13, which is almost impossible ( it's really tough, even for me the creator, and I'm used to this style of game, since it requires pixel-perfect jumps multiple times in a row )...
I'm thrilled to see that the little details like the resume timer or the particle effects were appreciated.
I think I spent about 3 or 4 days out of the 9 refining these details and fixing bugs so I'm glad that the effort is being recognized !
PS: By the way, this save system actually caused my game to crash before I realized I wasn't using the right formats...
This is extremely well made for a first time jam game. The art is minimalistic but really coherent and well put together, the control feels great, the sound is on point and it is generally just satisfying to play. I think the only criticism have is that is would be nice if jump couldn't be held down since it sometimes accidentally messed up my platforming
Thank you very much for this comment !
I created all the graphics myself, and I opted for a minimalist style due to the limited available time...
I'm glad I finally took the plunge and submitted a game for a real game jam.
In fact, this is also my very first game that I've dared to share online.
Comments like these almost make me want to share all the other little game snippets I've created in the past that never quite came to fruition...
PS : Were you able to progress through the levels despite the fact that the jump can be held continuously ?
Don't worry I was easily able to progress, it was just a bit annoying from time to time
Visually it looks fantastic. Minimalistic graphics and epic music with clever use of particles and effects (it seems like a CRT effect to me or I'm wrong). Minimalism at its best.
Wow ! Thank you so much for this wonderful comment !
Indeed, there's a CRT effect on the background and I also used RGB shift for the level selection menu.
As for the rest, it's all about lighting ( by the way, creating the black light effect was quite tricky, since Gdevelop assumed it was a lack of light by default ) and particles ( tons of them )...
PS : I imagine you didn't encounter any menu bugs, but just in case you did, feel free to install the ".exe" ( check the link in the game page description ) to enjoy it even more !
The usage of the theme and concept is great!
Thank you !
I'm crossing my fingers that you got to experience the higher levels and really got into the heart of what makes this game concept so fun...
I really want to like this game more, but it ended up just being frustrating. The controls need refinement and I think some parts weren't play-tested enough (I got stuck in an infinite loop in the first area for example). I think if you polish this up a bit you got a fun little game!
Thank you for this feedback !
I personally tested all the levels ( used to the speedrun style ), and then I had my wife give it a try, even though she's not into this kind of game, but she managed to get through most of the levels ( except for the really tough ones at the end ).
I'm not sure about the infinite loop you mentioned. Could you please explain the issue you're facing a bit more ?
PS : I spent around 2 days creating the game, another 2 on menus to work also on keyboard, and the remaining 3 fixing all the bugs caused by various small details and I don't recall encountering an infinite loop...
