Nice pixel art: congrats for creating those assets!
Mechanics are nice, with more powers added at every "level".
Music is nice. Would have loved some SFX too.
Being able to aim in the mouse direction would have been a great improvement in my opinion.

Anyway, a good game!

The overall gameplay and progression felt balanced throughout. Nice job

This is really great. All the different types of spells were really well done. Loved the soundtrack. Really great submission.

Oh my gosh so many memories playing this game! It felt like Prince of Persia jumping over the spike traps, King's Quest 3 and 4 with the amazing pixel art and such rich characters conveyed through that medium, and then finally some good ole Castlevania jumping around trying to take down big baddies.

The soundtrack was super cool when the second track hit after I defeated Da Goblin Boss I was bobbing my head like yeah this is it haha.

Great submission!

Absolutely amazing!

This is great submission!

Really well done! The first thing I did was goof up walk on the spikes. As soon as I figured out what I was doing I got the feeling it was a standard retro game. Well put together, especially how the music changes.

If I had to rank the powerups:

dash fireball shadow bolt idk aegis shield

Was very happy to get this screen! Good work!

Nice progression, liked the checkpoint save function, really cut down on frustration levels. Would suggest making it clearer when damage is being taken (visual cue is a little hard) with some sound effects to match. Well Done!

Developer

Thanks for playing. You're absolutely right about the damage feedback. What little SFX there is was created and added in the final hours before submission :D

If I had more time I'd have definitely added that one

Thanks for playing - I appreciate the kind words!

Cool game, the dash puzzle was a bit tricky but I liked the end boss where you need to combine all the abilities to win.

The game was tough but fun. The atmosphere and the idea of consuming souls for powers are definitely cool. I enjoyed playing it.

Very nice job for a one person game! The art is very good looking and the mechanics are metroidvania like! Great job

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the kind feedback! I'd have loved to dig even deeper into Metroidvania territory but I just didn't have the time

Really nice job on the mechanics, look and feel, and concept. I liked the different abilities unlocked when absorbing souls. Nice job on the game!

Developer

Thanks for trying it out!

Great job -- brutally hard! The idea of rescuing your fellow adventurer's souls was a great fit with the melancholy music. Both lent great atmosphere to the experience. I wish the controls had been a bit more crisp, as I often failed to clear pits or defeat enemies in time to avoid hits...BUT, that is part of the learning curve, and with practice, it was possible to master the game, which is what matters in the end.

Nicely done!

Developer

Thanks for checking the game out and I appreciate the feedback! I'll be sure to check your game out before the rating window is up. I'm gonna play a bunch of download only ones including yours tomorrow when I set up my VM :)

Thanks!  I appreciate you returning the favor!
If you don't want to mess with a download, I also posted a web version. There should be a link to it from the downloadable game's page. If you want to rate it, though, you'll have to return to the downloadable page.

Thanks again!

Great job! It was fun playing and the concept is really cool. The music does not match my taste but i guess it matches the game.

This was really fun! I love the idea of absorbing the abilities of your party members. The last boss fight was really well done with the shield ability. The obstacle section after getting the dash felt a little difficult but the checkpoints were generous enough that it wasn't frustrating. This was a great submission!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad the checkpoints quelled the desire to rage quit lol

Really fun game! Took a moment to get the hang of things, but it did click in the end. I liked the visual style and various tunes, and the checkpoints were very helpful. Enjoyable throughout, nice job!

Developer

Thanks for checking out the game. I really enjoyed yours, too!

wow! really loved the mechanics, the aesthetics and music. I would have liked some sfx but for being a game jam you did a great job. Well done!

Developer

Thanks for playing, and for the feedback :)
I definitely would've liked to have gotten more SFX in but ran out of time. I'll try and leave more time for SFX on the next jam!

I was able to get to the demon lord with the dash fix, he's tough! Great job!
