Incredible jam entry. Whole game feels polished and looks and sound great. Good job

Developer

Thank you! :)

THIS WAS SO GOOD! Felt really good to play, very polished, the art is incredible, great music, love the character design and I'd love to see it with more lore and weapons! Also the enemies mechanics were cool. Congrats! Awesome work overall

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! Defo planning for more upgrades, lore & tons of bug fixes/quality of life improvements (couldn't fit all of them within the 10 day jam limit XD)

Thanks for playing ✨

Really nice way on how you even just swing your attack, I noticed some detail there I really liked and maybe even seemed important to me for the strategy behind it. I really liked how clean it was, and how fun the game felt. The upgrades and interesting story were a nice added touch. I think you did a really great job on this one!

Developer

Thank you!! Thanks for noticing the small details XD. I'm a UI/UX Type of person so I LOVE clean aesthetics on games (Massive fan of the monument valley series!). Also spent quite a bit on making sure each ability feels impactful (to the best of my abilities during these 10-days). Thanks for trying it out ✨!

I am so bad at these games lol.
You've done a good job of making it though, love the art style.

Developer

No worries XD, it's defo quite a challenging game (I've had multiple skill issues myself too), glad you tried it! Cheers ;) ✨

Really incredible level of juice and polish for a jam game! I was already impressed by the menu and initial gameplay, but I was absolutely blown away when the first upgrade screen popped up. The music was super hype. The only issue I had was that the hitboxes seemed somewhat wonky; I was often hitting enemies I didn't expect to, or missing enemies I was aiming for. There's so much potential here to create something between Hades and Vampire Survivors, and I would absolutely love to see more. Awesome stuff!

Developer(+1)

Ayyy thanks for checking it out✨!!!

I do agree, hitboxes may feel a bit "off" right now (enemy hitboxes are made extremely small so players don't run into enemies too often, however this may also affect hit detection from the player's weapons in certain ranges), defo will improve the hitboxes in a future patch!

Glad you enjoyed the game! Got even more upgrades & tons of QoL improvements planned, stay tuned! ;)

It's a good idea to err on the side of not annoying players with random unexpected hits from enemies. Have you considered taking a page from fighting games and having different hit/hurt-boxes? Then you could fine-tune each without affecting the other.

This game is Fa nominal; I can't believe it was made in 3 days. Extremely well-polished with great game design and an awesome hades style power up system. You should all be extremely proud of yourselves.

Developer

Thank you for trying it out!! (It's 10 days btw XD, We legit can't make this in 3 days). We're definitely patting ourselves in the back for this one, can't imagine that we were able to finish this, great job on your game too!

Submitted(+1)

Awesome game!

From art to mechanics, the game felt solid and engaging.

Great work!!

One of the best games I played so far! The polish here really shines! Great music, excellent art! You should all be proud!

very stylish game , i survived until the 24 wave, the gameplay loop was really fun

Submitted(+1)

Very stylish and polished, even your itch page matches the game's style. I thought the micro tutorial was really clever. Love the Hades-esque upgrade system with the different characters.

Submitted(+1)

Really cool game!

Loved the game feel, very addictive, good job!

Submitted(+1)

Very, very stylish! Also very difficult for me! I got to wave XIX at my best. The upgrade system is neat, getting one health back per fight is nice and it's fun to play.

For me the best upgrade is the stun, because the lunge from attacking usually gets me hit by any enemy who can't be one-shot. The damage increase didn't appear to do anything, at the point where I got it only two enemies took multiple hits (the shields and the dashers) and the dashers still took two hits afterward, which did me in. Maybe it's a random trigger?

The controls were a bit difficult for me, both the arrow keys option and WASD. I really wanted to play it with a controller, but that doesn't seem to be an option. It's tough to need to face enemies to attack without running into them, or letting them run into you, but I'm guessing that was an intentional difficulty choice. :)

Developer(+2)

Ayy great job for making it that far!

I do agree that the damage increase could be communicated a bit more clearly, there's currently no sound que/indicator that your attacks are dealing more damage (the dashers have 3 HP actually so 2 hits were normal). I'll try to add a bit more effects or things to communicate them better in a future patch! (Even with 10 days, I can't exactly polish everything XD, thanks for letting me know tho!)

Shielded enemies defo are a pain to deal with, there's a shield piercing upgrade that lets you instantly destroy them, originally the damage increase would also do the same thing but it got a bit too OP (no one needed the shield piercing upgrade) so we had to create a temporary "duct-tape" solution to balance it out.

As for gamepad support, it was originally in the game, but something broke it, not quite sure what happened but will defo polish things up a bit more.

Genuinely though, thanks for the constructive feedback! (Seriously!) Will attempt to rectify most of these Issues in a future patch/android release, Thanks for trying it out ✨!

P.S. There's actually hidden mechanic to the attack system (this isn't taught anywhere in the game, will also fix that in a future patch), every third attack will do a "stab/lunge" attack (your attacks are a bit longer than usual) which also does double damage to non-shielded enemies. Originally this could also pierce shields but my duct-tape solution broke it ._.

This and "The Last Stand Standing" are my favorite games at the moment. The art is the best I've seen in the entire GameJam, and the gameplay is very engaging. I just survived up to the 14th wave. 10/10.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Great job on making it that far! Will defo check out "The Last Stand Standing" & everyone's games here slowly ;)

Developer

Ayy thanks for trying the game! Was quite a challenge creating everything & making sure everything's cohesive (within 10-days too!). Glad the you enjoyed it ;)

One of my favourite games for this jam, this looks release-ready and feels very smooth and well polished.
I have a question, enemies hit you when you approach then, but can you go through them without taking damage if you hit them prior to that (while staggered)? It looked like i could but it was hard to tell since i got hit just after, they all were getting too close.

Cheers! :D

Developer

Ayy thank you for playing for our game! (Your game was quite polished as well btw!!)

You can go through enemies while you're dashing (there's a brief invincibility time during dashes so you can outrun enemies/go through them if you're cornered)

As for staggered/stunned enemies (which you'll need to unlock through upgrades), I may have forgotten to code enemies to stop attacking while they're staggered (Oops... XD), they just stop moving & I think the hitbox still automatically damages the player. Will defo address this in a future patch sometime after the jam, Cheers! ;)

Wow one of the most polished and satisfying entries I have played in the jam, and I have been tearing through more games in the last 2 days than my entire life!

I got to shout out to your music and sound teammate because the music track absolutely slapped and the sound effects being custom made for the gameplay made all the visual and audio cues click and create confirmation of my gameplay actions. Loved the sprite work and the splash page artwork was beautiful! I also thought the way the tutorial was handled with checking if the player hit all the controls before releasing the first wave was very clever.

Just an all-around amazing submission congrats to the team on this. I see in the comments you may expand this story further and I am excited to see the follow ups!

Developer

Same here XD, this is my second-ish jam experience & I'm having a blast trying out what other people/teams have made, it's pretty hectic but it's defo really fun to test out new games!

Was quite shocked on what our music composer has made, he had a bit of a slump lately so he only managed to make 2 tracks, but holy moly, the music defo elevated the experience by a TON!! It feels AWESOME so slice through enemies to a banging soundtrack XD

Tutorial was a pretty simple but substantial addition, it was a last minute addition by me after I realized that it's probably better if I don't write a wall of text (cuz that's a bit boring)

Defo have a bigger story in mind, thanks for following! Will keep everyone posted if there's something to show ;)

(P.S. Planning to make a YouTube devlog about this game too pretty soon, I'm still not great at editing but hey if you want to see it regardless, my youtube is on my itch page)

The polish on this is insane. Everything screams professionalism. The epic fullsize character sprites, the clean UI, the pixel art, the snappy controls and impactful hits, the meaningful upgrade choices... the list goes on.

Even the inclusion of different enemy types was very well implemented, leaving space for strategic choices on which types to priortise first (e.g. kill the weak ranged ones first etc.).

Nothing but praise here. Calling it here as a very strong contender for the best game this jam.

p.s. Saw your post on the GDTVJam about crunching the entire period. The effort shows here; worth it.

Developer

Thank you very much ✨!!! Yeah I did crunch pretty hard during these 10 days XD (2 days to figure out what to make & the rest is just spent on development + polish) Defo not the intended way to do the jam, I've heard that they picked 10 days so people could just work on it on two weekends, but I was having too much fun adding new things, trying new stuff & just ended up in flow state for 10 days straight (which has never happened to me before! Genuinely feels AWESOME XD).

Thanks for playing, I'll be trying out everyone's games here very slowly so stay tuned ;)
