Hmmm, not sure what to make of this one. I liked the character and humor. I found the "easter egg" easier than finding the drinks, which is kinda weird. It's an interesting idea, but I think the 2D needs more work. It was difficult to navigate around in.

Developer

The same controls work in both 2D and 3D (WASD or arrows and jump), its just that your viewing angle is different (which makes some things easier to find).

To be honest I was just having some fun making it and the 2D mode is meant to be different to the normal 2D platformer style.

Cool ideas in here, and a very cute vibe. I'll admit I didn't quite make it to the end, but I enjoyed it.

Developer

Yeh I needed to have more people test it, to determine if it was too hard or too easy.
But its a jam, its all good :)

For sure! It was still a cool submission. Congrats!

Very interesting mechanic. Took me awhile to figure out I could move in all directions in 2d as well.
Great game. Well done

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hmm yeh I was wondering if I should make that clearer, thanks.
It was a fine balance between having people discover what they can do in 2D vs them getting annoyed by not knowing.

I like the whimsical feel of the game. Chris is a cool character! But I wasn't sure what to do in 2D mode! Good job with the submission though 😎

Developer (2 edits)

You just need to find his drinks.
Some things are easier to see from a different perspective ;)

Nice work

Nice humor! I found difficult though to move around, between 2D and 3D. The 2D world feels really buggy. I got it somehow, not sure how :D

Nice done overall!

Developer(+1)

Yeh the 2D world is meant to feel more difficult to navigate (though all the same controls are there) but in some ways it can give you a better perspective on the end goal.
I had fun trying stuff out for a few days.

haha, indeed our games share some dna: varying-dimenionality-based humor is just so hard to find these days. but i went green with envy when I saw the cube's idle animation. good stuff.

unfortunately I couldn't figure out the secrets that could be found in 2D world, even after 2 tries. still worth it.

Developer (2 edits)

It was just an easier to find his drinks that he had stupidly misplaced.
Being a cubist overcomplicates things, sometimes its easier to be a square.

I loved playing around with non-rigged animation for this game, I can see myself absolutely overusing it from now on.

Hahaha, I really like the humor. It's so funny tho. The only missing part is the game don't have clear direction but really enjoyed what you are working on here!

Very nice take on the theme. The music fits perfectly and I found really funny the "oh oh" voice of the cube.

In the 2D mode it is a bit messy to explore, but overall it was very fun game to play! Well done!

Developer

Thank you :)
Yeh you are meant to feel relieved to get back to the 3D world.

Had fun playing and found the easter egg!

Found the easter egg! ... And tan away from it.

Mr. Cube is very witty! XD

Submitted(+1)

maybe i'm dumb. i dont get it :D
found the easter egg tho :D

Developer

You mean the win condition?
Its there, I'm sure you can find it :)

Such a fantastic game. I like the game mechanics, music, and especially the talking cube 8)

Developer(+1)

Thanks, I guess when you have fun making something people can tell.

Submitted(+1)

nice one, those sound effects are faces are great. i actually like idea of 1 "world" being messed up like that. found drinks and that little "gift" :D

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Awesome, maybe I should have called it Rick the cube ;)

Submitted(+1)

Like the 3D art and the dialog. It was cool how it converted to 2D, but hard to tell what to do in 2D.

Developer

Yeh the 2D is meant to be confusing and messy, you just keep using WASD and have fun going up and down over hills.
There are some clues in 2D in how to finish though - no spoilers :)

Thanks :)

I'm not entirely sure what the mechanic was. I feel like I forced my way to the end (by ignoring the request to stay in 3D. And I think that's it's a nice take on the 2D theme. I like the little voice feedback and the box's faces.

Developer (1 edit)

Fair call, its very light on mechanics, apart from swapping from 2D to 3D and having a timer.
I wasn't too enthused with the theme and just had a play with what I know and challenged myself to do some non-rigged animations.
cheers

I like the cube's dialogues. makes it fun to find all the squares.

Developer

thanks :)

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Kinda bother by the fact that chris always face the same direction, but his funny expressions make up for that XD

edit: typo

Developer (1 edit)

thanks, yeh I thought about making him face the way he was moving, but decided to have fun with the animations instead
cheers
