I really liked the look of the this one. The flipping rooms around is a really neat idea. The only issue I have is with the movement. Controlling the character didn't feel great, and I wish I could move just a little bit faster. I'm nit-picking though, great entry!

Developer

Thank you so much. We'll take your input on character control into consideration going into the future!

This was such a well thought out game. It's put together really well and hold a theme. The figures and the lighting are great. I struggled with the puzzle a bit. This was a treat.

Developer

Thank you! Hopefully it was an enjoyable amount of struggle. <3

Game's pretty fun and visually appealing, everything fits nicely toghether.

I'm not sure if it would be better, but I would experiment with some camera movement smoothing, the position changes are a bit too abrupt.

Nice touch adding an animated splash logo in the beginning. The intro of the kiwi setting up the game is also very nice.

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked our game!

We tried originally working with a following camera but eventually had to change it to the one we have now because of time constraints, we only had one artist and he was already crunching enough to finish everything to ask him to make sure the room transitions lined up properly and there's a lot of "out of bounds" ugly hidden by the camera right now xD

Perhaps after we give it some more time when the jam's over we'll fill in those gaps and try a different camera n-n

(And glad you like the logo, our artist is very happy that someone found it cool.)

I think there is a solid idea here but needs some refinement.

3d movement in cells makes it actually hard to navigate so I would prefer 2d movement there.Cell designs could help the player more if they were done a little better.

I would prefer pressing R does not reset the state or at least give an option there. Sometimes I just use it so see around.

Most importantly showing inside of cells from the start would be much better.

Developer

Thank you for your comment, regarding the 3D movement we are aware now that it makes the game a bit hard to play so we will certainly be fixing that after the jam ends.

Regarding the pressing of R resetting Kiwi's position, this is an intended mechanic, as the main difficulty is to be able to properly create a path to both the key and lock in the same go. If we allowed people to just get the key, and then move their starting room next to the lock for example the puzzle aspect of the game would diminish considerably. (Remember that pressing Shift zooms out so that players can have a look at were they are without resetting their position, as explained in level 1 on the grid scene)

And the cells being hidden is done on purpose to entice the players to explore before trying to construct their paths. Though we do understand why this might feel like a bit of a chore if the platforming section and moving between rooms felt a bit annoying.

Submitted(+1)

With the web version, the R key would sometimes not work when I was looking at the grid. I understand that html5 can be very funny sometimes though and I wish I could play the executable version (my windows computer is broken).

Alright, criticisms aside this game is a vibe. Spooky temple with un music and BIRDS. I like how big the seeds are and in general the idea is amazing. This is a great game in the making.

Developer

Thanks a lot for the comment and glad you enjoyed the aesthetic, our artist is delighted to hear this being commented so much!

Also, could you think back to the playthrough and remember if the "entraces" the rooms with the balconies in them. Were properly rotated? R doesn't exit the grid mode unless the entrace is properly rotated cuz Kiwi has to enter through somewhere. (Our fault for nor properly conveying that information in game)

If that wasn't the case though we will try and look for whatever might be causing the issue!

The game looks lovely and feels good to play. I liked the main character's design and the environment looks great too.

But I didn't really enjoy the puzzles. It seems that most rooms aren't really a part of the puzzle but exist just to obfuscate the solution. I would prefer if the puzzle mechanics very clear (get from point A to point B) and all rooms actually played some role in the final solution.

Maybe, to make the game even crazier, the game could be set inside of a giant 3D Rubik's Cube? 😁

Great job! I think your team is very talented, good luck with your future projects!

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked the platforming part and sorry the puzzle part wasn't for you x3 It's a bit hard to aim with puzzle mechanics because everyone has their preferences, but we will probably improve the aspect you pointed out, yes some of the rooms were there to obfuscate the slider puzzle section of the game, but we'll try to fill them in with something more engaging and related to the solutions when we have time after the jam!

And yes, we would love to test and try out making the final level a Rubik's Cube, that'd surely ramp up difficulty xD

One of the highlights of this jam for sure!! such a huge amount of polish it's really impressive! I loved the concept of sliding/rotating rooms in order to make progress, it's such a clever idea and I had a bunch of ah-ah moments where I was able to find solution to the puzzles. Lovely music and mood as well, just overall one of the best games of the jam. Fantastic job!

Submitted(+1)

Really creative game, I love the visuals, reminds me of a mobile game I would play in 2012 (in a good way). The room-moving gimmick is really fun if not a bit confusing and clunky at first. Great job on this entry!

Submitted(+1)

Incredible amount of polish to this game. The art direction is stellar and the interpretation of the theme is really ingenious. Five stars. The only bit of constructive feedback I have is that the depth within the room made the platforming a tad frustrating, but that may just be my skill level. :) Overall incredible product here, I hope that you all continue work on this and release it. Fantastic job!

Developer(+1)

Aaa thanks so much for the compliment! And do not worry it's not you, some people have pointed out that getting through the doors is a little hard so we will 100% be fixing that when we keep working on the game after the jam x3

When we release it, and we surely will since the reviews so far have been quite positive n-n, we'll take into account all comments and suggestions and fix any issue we can!

Goods:
- Really good graphics and a unique style
- The animations are nice
- Enviorement design is nice and fitting

Some stuff I noticed:
- Footstep sounds don't fit, why is it shoe on concrete when it's a bird in sand?

Stuff to improve on:
- The controls are WAY too confusing, and the game doesn't have a tutorial; it jumps straight into the action. It took me a little over 6 minutes to figure out that you can move locked rooms, and I spent half of that trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do. I checked the page to find the controls, but the player shouldn't need to do that; the game should teach the player.
- Difficulty-wise and this is still part of the tutorial thing, you should have added a bunch of really easy levels before giving the player a full 3x3. It should have gone like this:

1st level: 2x2, move one room one room and that's it
2st level: 2x2, move and maybe even rotate one room, that's it
3rd level could have been the current first level, but even that could be a big difficulty spike

- Should have been a 2D game, the extra dimension of movement hurts the game more than it adds to it. I constantly missed the openings because of the weird perspective.

- I couldn't even beat the first level in 15 minutes, and I had to give up.

Overall probably a nice game but due to the difficulty and non intuitive gameplay, I couldn't play through it.

Developer

Thanks for the rating and sorry you couldn't finish it!

We as a studio are believers in the idea of just dropping the player straight into the world and letting them figure out how to play on their own, by hidding the instructions and tutorial directly into the world, for example, in the form of hieroglyps that are scattered on the starting room and the only accessible room from that point.

So after just a little exploring and paying attention to surroundings the controls would become clear.

Perhaps in the future we will add a small tutorial as a small interaction of Kiwi with the hieroglyphs, having him turn to look at them and commenting on the controls themselves, but a way to make the controls themselves part of the puzzle is what we personally like most.

Submitted(+1)

That's an interesting idea but I don't think it actually works in the real world. People play games to play games, not to figure out how to play the game imo. If you want people to figure out these things on their own, you need to give a bit of guidance, like a cutscene at the start where it clearly shows a hieroglyph giving you advice or something. (oh wait you said that nvm)

I'll probably try the game out again when I'm done rating the other games submitted to me. (unless I forget of course)

Submitted(+1)

It's super polished!! I love the character and the environment art style, the music is also a plus. However I'm a little bit lost at beginning before I figure out how to use grid mode.

Submitted(+1)

It has a very high graphic level. The controls feel good and it's fun.
The only thing that could be improved is to make a tutorial to make it more intuitive when playing.

This result in one month is incredible. Congratulations!

Submitted(+2)

Very cool! Great polished art style, kudos on the work. Great puzzle design, I almost get a bit distracted by the controls to focus on the quality of the puzzle, but being a bird I suppose he would have a floaty feel to him. SFX were great, music a tad repetitive but overall this was a great creation in a month's time.

Submitted(+2)

Wow! This is a level of polish I did not expect to see after only one month. Kudos to your team, this is really impressive! Loved the sneaky glyphs telling us the controls in the game. Overall, loved it! Looking forward to seeing this studio continue to grow and put out games.

Submitted(+2)

Really cool and innovative concept, and a neat interpretation of the theme. I liked the cute and simple art style and charming music. The puzzle design was also clever and I was impressed at the amount of content in the game given it was just a 1 month game jam.

The 3D platforming could be a bit finicky so I probably would've preferred a Mario-style 2D camera perspective. I also would've liked a tutorial of some kind. (I know the instructions were in the project description but I always enjoy when the game walks me through how to play)

Great job overall!

Theme Got it down, Art amazing no dope. Music and sound not bag. Overall great game I could see this being a full game easily and with a few tweaks. One of the most put-together games so far in the Jam.

Submitted(+2)

This game was fantastic. really detailed graphics and very catchy music. use of the two scales was great. reusing the bird in the ways you did really worked well. If I had to find something to "complain" about maybe I wish the small scale was locked to a plane like a 2d platformer so the doors were a bit easier to get through , but I know that would break several of the rooms and its really not needed. Great work , really feel the polish .

Developer

I appreciate the feedback, and thank you so much!

Yeah, we've heard a few times that the doors were a bit too hard to get through. I think if we redid the game we'd just make them slightly larger, but it would have required us to redo all of our 3d models by the time we realized it. I super appreciate the response though!

Submitted

the doors really weren't that bad honestly . I only had one or two instances where it wasn't perfect and even then i got it on the second try.

Developer

Thank you so much for your comment! n-n
Glad you had fun with the game and yes, the doors are a thing we need to fix after the jam ends, the original idea was the one you describe, a 3D 2Dplatformer but we ended up deciding some rooms would have a bit more interest to them if we unlocked that depth movement. But yes! We hope that when the game is fully released this issue will be fixed for a smoother exploration.

Submitted

very glad to hear you're going for a full release. I would definitely play more content

Submitted(+2)

Awesome game! Really high quality and well polished. Also like the great concept of the tile based rooms which can be reordered in order to solve the puzzle :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing. I'm glad you liked it. <3

Submitted(+2)

This game looks awesome, the controls are good but might somehow be a bit better, don't know how though. it's a bit frustrating to get through the doors (holes in the side). Also when you zoom out to slide the puzzle, and you go back you keep coming back to the same room.

Developer (1 edit)

I think we would definitely make the doors slightly larger if we were to remake the game, as they are a little bit tight to jump into. Returning to the balcony room is on purpose though. The intention is to make players have to create routes throughout the board. If they could resume from the room the started the sliding puzzle in, they wouldn't have to solve any of the games puzzles. They could just move the block they are in to the solution every time.

Thanks for your feedback!

Submitted(+2)

The presentation and the graphics is really cool, but was stuck at the first level, i tried to move around the rooms and to rotate them but i didn't feel consistent, sometimes the rooms were moving in an empty space sometimes they were stuck even if the space was free.

Pressing the start button opening the pause menu when in game , left the character stuck in the walking animation.

And sometimes going back from the "room screen" to inside the room, the player was starting back from the first square in the starting position

In the end i was unable to complete the first level

Developer

Sorry to bother you, but I'm trying to recreate the bug you are having on my end to fix it, but having trouble doing so. If it isn't too much trouble, can you describe in more detail how it occurred so I can recreate it on my end?

Submitted(+1)

Sure, i am using an Xbox controller , so the game start, then i press the start button, when i come back the player do the walking animation multiple times without me touching any input.

This is a link to capture on what i  see

It seems to be a problem with gamepad that we missed. I've found and fixed the bug and am currently seeing if the staff count this as a critical bug error so we can upload the change. In the meantime, keyboard is fully stable if you want to give the game a second chance.

Developer

Gamepad is up too now. Thanks again!
