Cool idea with audial puzzles, but very hard because hearing melody or finding sounds was really difficult. But otherwise it is a nice entry!
It was a good looking game and with a sweet atmosphere,
The issue I had was I barely heard the notes due to the atmosphere so following the melody was very hard... I mostly beat the game by brute forcing it to be honest... :/
Though I did it at the end haha
I guess the ambient sound should be more balanced so we could hear better the melody and then complete the sequence
Still good job about the graphics and the ambience! And thank you for this entry!
Thank you. Great that you could make it) it's hard to do. Sorry, I can't play your game right now, don't have a computer with normal graphic card.
Interesting idea, but didn't work so well for me because all the notes was hard to hear - ambient sound was a lot louder than the notes and I only heard that they are there after reading comments and looking at the example of the first level. Also I am not sure having invisible note tiles is a good idea... its difficult to find them sometimes (level 2 was the worst with them positioning quite randomly!) and it harder yet to remember all of the positions and notes relative to eachother (with notes being hard to hear and imposible to hear again after failed step). Starting from second level it became just "try all and see if it sticks" for me :(
I did defeat the melody lich though. It just... could be so much better if I could actually hear the notes and repeat them somehow after fail step too.
thank you for playing. It is really hard game. I’m making party rpg and try to find solution for building maps to generate levels. And that was experiment music part I made for few hours and it really need to be tuned. What I like is that I made system with native godot that can be used for rhythm patterns and procedural musical environment, which can be done in UE in more intuitive way, but not everyone can use UE and play games build with it. I’m making game on my old thinkpad x220 now, next game will have simpler graphics but I hope more understandable gameplay or at least tutorial.
It is mostly sound levels, I think. Messages were clear enough about repeating sound patern, but it was so low volume that made it much harder to do so properly.
Music puzzle still a cool concept! Wish you best of luck developing it further!
The graphics is great (I also use these assets heh), the ambiance and the mood likewise, but I'l be honest: I had no idea what I was supposed to do and couldn't figure it out. I finished the first room but I have no idea how and got stuck on the second. There was a hint about following the melody but there was no melody anywhere? I may just be dumb.
It's ok)) I didn't have a time to make good hints. I made spoiler video for this)
I’d love to see more of this. Any plans for future development?
Thanks for playing. I took moving mechanics from HeartBeast, it reads cell coordinates and moves player to it. I think that makes problem of input latency. But it's good idea because it's possible to make grid any size you like. And also his map builder template made this project possible.
Yeah this is a part of a project I work on. I'm working on turn-based music mechanics. Wanted to finish it before jam but it appeared too complex. A story about undead musicians)
By the way love fight mechanics in your game, it was unexpected)
Don't know if it's just me but the windows version wouldn't boot up from Godot splash screen.
)Sorry to hear that. Did you try web version or download one?
The windows just get stuck on Godot splash screen. I did try web build but I can’t seem to move around. I will try again tomorrow though.
I have laptop with old 960M, so I was hoping that any modern device could handle it. At least it's ok with two I have.
Yea, no luck. Is there any video of the gameplay I can watch? My internet is quite bad so every skip on Twitch is an ad for me. :/
I'll do like spoiler video) I should have time tomorow
If you don't want to spoil others, you can just DM me on discord. If possible, can you include like a 3-5 seconds of walking in the dungeon that represents your game? I'm compiling all submission montage.
Something like this?
Yep, that would be good for the showreel. Can I also have like 5 minutes of gameplay video? I don't wanna rate your game based on what I see in this 15s video.
it's actually very short) Idea of duality is that you can find only part of puzzle and use it to go further. I needed to make "found secrets" count just didn't have enough time for it.
I really liked the graphics although msaa 4 or something would have helped a lot with the jagged lines, in the soundscape was something high pitched which was quite off-putting, stopped in the second room because I couldn't really figure it out, not my jam but really liked the atmosphere!
Thank you, I was about to make different game. So when labyrinth idea appeared I just grabed polygon prefabs and just covered up ugly things with light and other prefabs) thanks for playing
simon says: the dungeon crawl experience :D
Interesting mechanic! The invisible walls came out of nowhere, though. Was especially brutal due to the music tiles being invisible as well (as far as I could tell). I'm glad I stumbled into an invisible wall by accident because I was getting close to thinking something was wrong and quitting.
I enjoyed the atmosphere. I think the length was just right, I don't think I would've continued if it went beyond 4 levels. If it were a longer game and there were other compelling reasons to keep playing, I would've busted out some pen and paper for this lol
)) Yeah, Thanks for playing, I thought about it as part of bigger game so that's why it is comparatively short) I'm just wanted to use it like character builder level, they should find some artifacts in this labyrinth. Hidden walls idea comes from old Eye Of Beholder game.
What I was really testing is ability of Godot to handle music events. Melodies isn't a files looping, they are samples that playing according to riddle array, as well is music overall. I would gladly hear feedback on this.
I found it quite interesting, I had a difficult time figuring it out, but enjoyed it.
I am not sure a game based almost entirely on sound puzzles will be of everyone's taste, and that's fine, but it did not overstay its welcome and I enjoyed it.
