It is marvellous! It is glorious! The engine puzzle could be more jazz, urban, industrial, with dithering, more dense, more confused. The clean visual does not matches with the music and the jazz spirit. But one of the gems of the BWJam.
Thank you kindly! I think you're right, I could have used dithering and made the design grittier.
Very creative and unique concept, had a similar problem to to others where I didn't know you could move the licks. Other than that, really great execution, thoughtful level design, and the UI and visuals fits the aesthetic of the game really well too! You also tackled the theme quite nicely there as well, I'm impressed!
Overall a nice, chill puzzle game, and a tribute to the all-time classics as well. Well done!
Thank you for the kind and thoughtful feedback! Based on everyone's experience, I'll be sure to include a short tutorial in stage 2 to highlight the movement :)
And thank you for hosting this Jam! This one has stood out as a one of my favorites thus far. Plenty of clarity around a fun and unique constraint. The theme you chose fits the B&W constraint perfectly and allows for a lot of creative freedom to us developers. Great execution as the host!
A real nice concept about placing the correct rhythms in order.
Only thing I wish was if the tutorial was a bit more clearer or at least noted that I can move certain keys around the field.
Great job!
Really interesting concept, excellent implementation. It's really polished, it's ready to become a full game! Good job!
Hi folks! Really great job on this one! The concept is 10/10, the puzzles are really nice too - I mean how could it not be pleasing to play with master works? The aesthetics are just marvellous - although I think the little "play" icon could use some jazzin' up for the sake of consistency. Do you guys have an account on Instagram? We would love to follow you and mention you in our "end-of-the-jam" post!
Thank you for the kind words and thoughtful feedback! I unfortunately don't have an instagram :\ But you can follow me here on itch.io!
I had a great time wth these music puzzles! I also like how the white and black theme fits nice.
good job!
This game was simply astonishing. You took a rhythm-like game and turned it into a fun puzzle game while at the same time showing the importance of the generation and creation of jazz music. I loved this game! I'm really glad you sent a GIF because it would of took me quite a while to realize you can move the notes. I just had to beat all the levels too because it was such a joy to play. I thank you for this game as it provided a nice use of jazz music and it just really stood out to me, creatively and audio wise.
Amazing job on this game!
Thank you so much for the high praise and sincerity! It's really encouraging to me to get feedback from fellow developers that align with my design intentions :) I'm stoked to check out your game as well!
No problem! This was really a delight as it just reminded me of the good times back then and how lots of games I played included jazz music like this.
Great game! Super creative and great use of B&W! It was fun to play.
Very cool idea! Would be fun to see it expanded to other genres of music, though jazz surely fits the theme of the jam perfectly
I've certainly kicked around the idea of using a different genre. Glad you liked it!
Great idea . You should make a full game with it . If you can add playing bar for full the songs I mean the bars you change the time of song. So if we only listen last part of the song we could without listining all of it.
Can play and rate my game too?
That's excellent feedback and honestly what I was planning to do in future iterations of the game! Replaying the phrase was a notable pain point in my play tests and a play bar was the recommended solution! I'll be sure to check out your game too!
Looks great, sounds great.
But most importantly, at first I expected this to be a very basic game that's just pretty. I was really surprised how much you managed to squeeze out of this concept - especially moving blocks in real time makes it much more engaging.
I found a small bug - if you let the note go out through the floor (maybe also other places), you cannot get the note to appear again. You have to skip the level at that point I think.
Ah! I fixed that bug in some levels but not all. Great catch. I'm glad you liked the game! I put a lot of effort into making it engaging with my playtests and iterations, so it's good to see you enjoyed it.
Awesome puzzle game. Enjoyed the old jazz tunes as well.

This is outstanding Jordan,
cooler than Coolio drinking kool aid in the cooler.
.. Topsy was as far as my old ears would allow me to go :)
This has to be the coolest comment I've ever seen lol. Thanks for the kind feedback! Topsy at level 7 is pretty far, nice job.
I'm excited to check out your game!
I love puzzles. I liked this one too, but I guess you can add more puzzles. The art is cool, and the songs are pretty awesome.
The world needs more Musical puzzles! even tough the puzzles are simple and not really any challange it was pretty engaging, and i had alot of fun playing it!
good job!
Suanky!
(there was a bug where I couldn't get the note out of the trumpet but a simple reset fixed it)
Oh dang, thanks for the feedback! Any hints for me to try to replicate the bug so I can fix it in future iterations? Also, thanks for playing
It was in the second level I didn't pay attention to the tutorial the first time I played so I just messed around in the second level moving the notes until it happened, or it might just be my incompetence of paying attention the first time.
lol not incompetence at all! There's logic in the tutorial that freezes the ability to play the trumpet so it's related to that. People should be allowed to skip/skim the tutorial like you did, so certainly a bug. Thank you!
What an absolutely stunning way to make Jazz alive again.
Loved the animations, transitions and most importantly, the songs
Thank you so much for the kind words! I hope Jazz never truly dies...
I think we got a winner for the jam
lol I dunno about that.. One thing I love about these Jams though is hanging out with fellow devs. This is a great community.
I WAS RIGHT HAHA!!!!!!!
I KNOW!!!!!! You totally called it lol. I'M SO.... JAZZED!
Awesome game! Nailed it on all levels!
Thank you kindly!
