As many other commenter have pointed out, adding music and sound effects can go a long way in improving the feel of the game. You might want to pay attention to your viewport size on itch: right now it isn't pixel perfect, and there's frequent flickering on the floor due to aliasing. This is especially grating in the later levels, as they're quite challenging.

Developer

Thank you for the viewport size tip, I will make sure to have its size the same as the build's next time.

Quite challenging, but very interesting and nice. I really like that you still managed to add a short in-game story to explain the game. You could though balance a bit more, especially with some enemy patterns (like from level 4 onwards) that seem a bit hard to comprehend. Good job anyway!

Submitted

Pretty punishing but has an almost instant respawn so trying again is seamless. Fun game!

Submitted

That is quite a challenging game you have there :) I like the difficulty progression with adding new turrets every now and then. Sound effects would be a nice bonus and bullets a hard to see sometimes.

I liked playing the game, it was challenging but for the first 5 levels it felt that the difficulty curve was just right. Afterwards it was challenging and I still in level 8 . I think that if you added audio it would make the game more lively, and maybe a little animation when the player is hit to indicate that would be good. generally I had fun playing it :)

(1 edit)

Pretty challenging, though the lack of audio and bullet visibility issues (small, color kind of blends in with the background, especially when they go through pillars in the middle of the map) damper things a bit. Also echoing the want for arrow key movement controls.

Developer

I surely will fix these in the future. Thank you for the advice :)

I think this would be a fun game, but there are a few things that bother me. Firstly, you can’t use the arrow keys to move. It should be a no-brainer to bind arrow keys and WASD to the same actions when you have simple movement like this. Secondly, there is no music or sound at all in the actual gameplay. As a result you feel disconnected from the game and the immersion completely breaks. That said some of the rooms are pretty well designed and fun to figure out.

Edit: there’s a dash?!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the tips. And I REALLY should mention the dash in the game it self, sorry about that >.<

The game is good, but without music and soundeffects it became a bit boring with time. The art style is good, controls are smooth and the dash mechanic is very usefull, but very op without a cooldown.

Submitted(+1)

Controls are nice, as well as bullet hell theme :) what sells it short is the lack of sound or any game juice -kale

Spritework is real cute, controlls work well. Teh Collission appears very leanient and you can dodge between bullets. A bit to hard for me (but I suck at Bullet Hells!) - biggest gripe: No soundeffects, no BGM also no player Feedback when he dies. Those two things make the game feel a bit hollow and unfinished.

Bonus points for story elements in the beginning of the game. I really liked the visuals. Addition of audio will definitely benefit the game, but even without it I found it really fun to play. Really great concept concerning the theme of the game jam. Dash could get some nerf in form of cooldown or smaller invincible time, but even without and with a bit of practice, the game can be beaten. Great job!

Developer

Thank you very much :)

A game where you just dodge and don't fight back , interesting concept. The patterns are clear and with a bit of training it can be done. Challenging but also entertaining. Perhaps less levels but instead new mechanic(solve some puzzle, collect a key..) would have been better though. Dashing is a bit too strong. I could spam spacebar in most levels and just get through by luck. Overall good game :)

Submitted(+1)

I like it! The concept of escaping the prison is really cool. The pattern are hard but fun to go through. It's just too bad for the sound but I'm sure you will figure it out! :)

Submitted

Nice work! I thought the little prisoner guy was cute, and the bullet pattern variety was nice, although I did feel overall the bullets were a little bit too small and hard to dodge.

As some others have noted already, I was able to fairly reliably brute-force every level at the expense of my spacebar key.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks :)

Yup, the bullets will become larger, and slower in the future.

Submitted

I like the art, dash should probably get a cooldown though and a shame that there isn't really any sound.

Developer

You liking the art made me genuinely so happy <3

These things will be absolutely implemented in the future.

Submitted

I enjoyed the game: it gets challenging but not too much. The spacebar can be spammed which makes for a somewhat frenetic (therefore fun) gameplay in later levels at the cost of making early levels trivial.

Developer

I'm really glad you enjoyed it :D

A cool down for the spacebar will be added in the future, when the levels get properly balanced.

Submitted

Cool intro! The game was fun and really challenging! Only thins that misses is the audio. But really, well done mate :)

Developer

Thank you very much. To be honest, I have the bullets' audio ready, but I forgot to implement it :P
And I think that updating the game and fixing that is cheating so I wont :) :(

step 1: jump to level 10
step 2: play
step 3: jump back to level 1
step 4: cry in corner...

overall it was quite fun, not sure if its just me though but there doesn't seem to be any audio :)

Developer

hahahahaha, I knew that someone would do that.

We didn't have time to implement audio unfortunately, nor a level progression system.

Submitted

I really liked the concept! The game got really hard really quickly though, but I didn't mind it that much :P Small things: dash needs a cooldown, if you spam it you can be permanently invincible, also the tracking bullets could be a little nerfed, they were the ones that killed me the most

With some sound effects and nice music this could be a very nice little game, keep it up! :D

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you :)

Yeah, I agree that the difficulty curve is too steep at the moment. I also wanted to add the cool down and audio, but there was no time.

I will surely keep working on it after the jam is over, because I think that it is  a fun game :D

Submitted

Interesting concept

Developer(+1)

Thanks :D

You are the one who posted about shifting your game's colors for the bomb effect. And I saw that your game wrapped up nicely, gj.

Thanks!
