Did you use any third-party assets or skeleton code?
we made shmup setup helper code before hand since we were using PICO-8

Nice work, especially for a first game! Excited to see the updated version :D
I liked the subtle way you slow down while shooting and the movement itself felt great for dodging enemy bullets.
Ran into a situation where whenever I continued the game, it picked up right where I previously Game Over'd so when there were already bullets on screen the session would last only a few seconds.
The idea of collecting the oil is interesting and I'm curious what the reasoning was behind including that theme!
i really should have listed why the oil is there. the theme in mine was the limited ability for the ocean to deal with human pollution. so your score gets tanked if you don't scoop up the oil . originally i was planning to make it that youd fail if you let the water get too much oil in it. but it seemed too hard. i wish id have gotten this across in some sort of narrative or text box. but alas. it slipped me mind
For a first game this is impressive, doubly so i’d say since this is on Pico8 :O
The sprites look really good and i particularily liked the paralax effect on the scrolling sides, and the music is also really boppin, cool as well that you made a difficulty selection that you can even change after dying if the current one felt too high.
I also gotta point as positive the Eco theme you chose :)
Overall i had fun trying it out, i just think i encountered a bug while playing where the game crashed just in case no one encountered this yet, here’s the screenshot :
Regardless, good job ^^
yep, you got further than the map segments i had programmed. thank you for all your kind words. i should have planned my end of game/restart stuff earlier. but ive learned for the future.
No problem ^^
Haha whoops XD well that explains it, then again i died a bunch of times and wanted to push through to see if i didn’t miss anything but no worries it’s okay to not have an end/restart for a jam game.
This is very fun, the visuals and music are good, the controls feel good and the enemy waves and bullet patterns are pretty cool. The game is hard which is good.
I'm not sure about the battlefield being bigger than the screen horizontally, it's weird. It's no big deal though, not even sure it's really a problem.
Cool game, thanks for sharing.
thank you for playing, the horizontal movement is thing they used to do in games like raiden. glad you had fun
This is great! I'm impressed it's your first published game! Keep it up. :)
In terms of feedback, I feel like it was super claustrophobic. There were a lot of patterns I just couldn't dodge, which may speak to my ability to play the game more than the actual design.
you arent wrong, i was just panicking in the final hour and decided making it real hard was better then it being too easy. lol i can dodge it all without shooting, so i thought it was ok. but i did design the patterns so im sure its easiest for me. this is just the beginning. i cant wait to release an updated fixed and finished version of this someday.
it's very pretty, especially for pico-8. the music is also great. for the game, i feel slightly confused when the game directly switch to menu page after player get defeated.
thank you for playing my game. trying my best to make pico look good.
i really shoulda put a "known bug" in the description. yeah just ran out of time. press ctrl-r to reset
Good an fun but , I died several times and the scores screen appears an i can continue to the same place than I dead
i really shoulda put a "known bug" in the description. yeah just ran out of time. press ctrl-r to reset
Really polished visuals that's for sure. Felt really good when I was blowing up enemies and firing those projectiles away. And the waves as the ships moves by, really cool detail! Though I think it's a bit too tough even with shield on. I think it's because of the large hit box, or maybe I just suck at shmup haha.
There was an issue on the web version where every time I died I would not be put at the start of the level. But at the spot where I died. Maybe it's on purpose but it threw me off a little, anyhow beautiful game.
i just ran out of time to properly do a restart. thank you for the feed back. the hitbot is 2x2px but i too am bad at shmups. theres a lot of bullets to dodge. maybe they have too large a hitbox. I,m glad you enjoyed the visuals. i wis i could have done more
The visuals are so cool. You've put a lot of work into the little touches and it really pays off. The controls feel really solid too! My only gripe I guess would be that the game needs some more player feedback, I was a little unsure of when I lost my shields and if I had any iframes etc. But overall this is a really impressive game for such a short time! I definitely hope you continue to work on it :)
you are right, i remembered only after posting that i need a bit of screen shake during Iframes. oh well , rip to the feature cut due to time. im glad you liked what was there. next time itll be even better.
love the retro style reminds me of plug and play games :)) v difficult but good fun
Nice little retro shmup! interesting mechanic having to collect the oil
This game is super visually impressive! I think the mixing between the sfx could use a little work, some were super quiet. Nice job!
really cool!
Very cool game! I love the retro aesthetic and the environmentalism themes.
