Really awesome game. The visual and audio were great, and the difficulty was very nice. Great Job!

Thank you very much! :)

This is my favourite game from the jam so far! I'd absolutely love to see a full fledged game like this with trippy visuals and music, and you do a great job at selling the concept.

Syncing visuals with music is always extremely satisfying in games, and it works perfectly here. I think a one hit system allows the game to be difficult while still fair, and you appreciate the music more. However, I do think there should be checkpoints between levels, as you feel you learn a level quite well if you are able to beat it once.

I love that each level has a specific theme with it's own enemy variety, and the circle filling in the centre is a smart way of indicating level progress without the need for UI.

As I said already, I'd love to see an expanded version of this game bemuse its such a great concept, with even crazier visuals outside of the circle. Great job, definitely going to be one of my favourites from the jam!

edit: some minor things just because I like the game so much and want to give as much feedback as I can. Some projectiles pop out very suddenly which is a bit jarring, it would be better if they went off screen or faded out, but I understand they might disappear to improve performance. Secondly, I'm not sure if its web unity doing this, but the art looks compressed in some places. In the future an option for controlling the character with the mouse would be nice, as the player would be able to respond better with 360 degree movement. These are really minor things and they didn't affect my enjoyment at all, just some things I've noticed.

Developer

Wow, thank you so much! :) Yeah, I definitely agree that the projectiles popping out suddenly is indeed jarring. Definitely going to address that as I build on this game. And moving the character via mouse seems so obvious to me now that you've mentioned it, I'm kind of embarrassed I didn't have that in the jam build lol. Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback and kind words, it's really incredibly helpful for me going forward and I truly appreciate it! :)

Good game. The audio is cool and made even better by the fact that you made it yourself. One life seems harsh to get the whole experience though I understand if that's by design.

(Yeah, and you better go make more of those interesting pancakes patterns!)

Developer

Thank you very much! :) Yeah, I'm working on making that aspect of the game less frustrating right now (and I'll be working on those pancakes soon too ;) ). Thanks for the feedback :)

This game is so beautiful... The music, the visuals, even the bullet pacing felt so synced...

Only thing I'd say is, I felt that having 1 hp is - and I think it's an unpopular opinion - is really important for the experience, though I would suggest adding checkpoints for each level so that you don't have to start from the beginning. I mean, it's just a fly, there are so many things capable of killing it in one blow, the mortality felt like it added up to the experience and I implore you to at least consider a separate difficulty setting for this. The sense of tension and hopefulness as you see the portal almost completely filling up the circle, it would be gone if the fly had multiple hitpoints.

Bullets and enemies obviously looked unfinished but their movements are so fluid already, and the patterns themselves are synced to the music... I'm honestly speechless and it's hard for me to offer any constructive criticism so I'll stop trying here. I would really, really love to see it finished in the future!

Thank you so much for your feedback! :) You bring up a really interesting point. You know, I was actually just think about this 1 hp topic last night. I'm actually on the same page as you with the feeling of tension and hopefulness that goes along with the 1 hp and the portals fullness, and I'm pretty sure I can come up with an elegant way of dealing with the frustration people are having with the 1 hp while still maintaining the sense of fragility and tension that goes along with the 1 hp. I was thinking something like - it's a probably a bit more wild than people would expect - having multiple phases of the aether flies life cycle (separate from the portal), with each one having a slightly different gameplay mechanic. When the player is playing really well, they progress to the next phase, and when they get hit they get bumped back down to a previous phase. Something like that. The vision of it in my mind seems really cool, though I'll need to do some testing to make sure it's actually FUN lol. Either way, I'm seriously considering your idea with keeping the 1 hp (and there will definitely be checkpoints).

Thank you so much for your kind-hearted and detailed feedback, it really helps me out and I TRULY appreciate it! :)

Actually, thank YOU for making a good game :) Definitely gonna check out the future versions!

Really beautiful game, kind of relaxing. I just would love to have more than 1 life before it is over!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! :) Yeah, I know the 1 life thing is super annoying, I'm honestly a little embarrassed about that. I knew I was going to be busy the day of the submission deadline, so I was really in a rush just to make sure the game was playable and submitted. Going forward you'll definitely have multiple hits. Thanks again for the feedback! :)

This is really good. Between the audio and the visual design it gives me major Tetris effect vibes.

I think the level length could be shortened somewhat, by maybe 20% - the starts of the levels felt very easy and it seemed like I was waiting for it to get more challenging, so it could just start 20% of the way in (difficulty-wise).

I understand that this was probably a game jam time limitation problem, but a checkpoint system would be amazing - especially with the level length.

Overall this is great, I kept wanting to get to the next level to see what the environment/experience would be like. Really great job - and I do hope you continue with this project!

Developer

I agree, the difficultly near the beginning of the level is a bit redundant and going back to the very beginning each time you get hit is needlessly tedious. You got it exactly, time was the biggest obstacle throughout the process of making this. I'm honestly pretty happy I was able to flesh-out the game as much as I was able to (I was seriously concerned for a while I wasn't going to have a playable game to submit). Thank you very much for your feedback and kind words, it really does help me keep the momentum going on this game :)

Absolutelly stunning visuals and soundtrack. The gameplay needs a bit more polishing, it can be a bit slow and easy to avoid most patterns,  but there is so much potential here. Very nice!

Developer

I couldn't agree more with your critique, the gameplay ABSOLUTELY needs much more polish. Thank you very much for the feedback and kind words! :)

How does this not have more attention?

The patterns are a bit repetetive, It would be more comfortable having more than one hp and it would look just a little bit better if the player sprite wouldn't rotate. That's it with my critique.

This game looks absolutely breathtaking! The music fits perfectly in the theme and the entire colour pattern is just...

Developer

I completely agree with your critiques, I'll be making changes to all of those aspects of the game going forward.  Thank you so much for your kind comments and helpful critiques, it really helps me out! :)

The blend of music, visuals, and game play is amazing! Great work :)

Developer

Thank you so much for your kind words! :) It really motivates me to keep working on this idea.

I have one word to describe this one, and it's aesthetic. The way the patterns follow the music along is  spectacular, this game is full on mood. The only thing that prevented me from enjoying it more was that one hit and you're gone. I've tried clearing the second stage a few times but having to complete the first all the time made me give up.

I could absolutely see this game becoming something like Gris. Really good!

Developer

Wow, thank you so much! That is a huge complement to me, if I can make this game into something on the caliber as Gris I will be super happy! And I completely agree with your feelings on the 1 hit and restart mechanic, going forward I'm going to completely overhaul how death works in this game. Thanks again for your comment, it really made my day! :)

Really loved the visual style and the music in this one, The flow of the game and the pace was also quite good!

Developer

Thank you so much! :) I'm really happy and relieved to hear people liking the art and music in this, I made everything so quickly I was a little worried about the quality of everything lol.

Really enjoyed that one! The music and visuals are ace!

Developer

Thank you so much for your kind words, I really appreciate it! :)

Very impressive! Love the syncing to the music. But also I think it would be REALLY cool if it gave you 3 hits and was 3x as hard to compensate. Some patterns are a little samey. Still though! Stellar work.

Developer

Thank you so much for your feedback! :) Yeah I agree, an actual health system and more difficulty is definitely on my mind as I continue to work on this game. And I was in such a rush to put this game together for the jam I just kind of slapped the patterns together as quickly as possible to make sure they were in there lol. Going forward I'll definitely be spending more time coming up with interesting patterns for players to deal with.
