Ranked from 29 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does your game fit the theme?
Everytime the player dies:
1 - They get a random ability.
2 - Their previous body doesn't disappear, and it can be used for platforming.
Also, every robot has a number (Subject #x) and a randomized death message to go along with it. So on every death, you control a new robot.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes, except:
I used a font asset I made (way before the jam)
The ground textures are CC0 assets from itch.io, edited to fit the game
(Also I use Brackeys' Audio Manager)

Credits are on game description.

I like the idea, simplicity and gameplay. The random abilities makes it even more interesting. Good job!

Nice game. I liked the presentation of the game with it being in a camera and the little death messages were a super nice touch. The different robots were pretty fun but it kind of felt like some traits were just better than others (dasher felt a little underpowered because it couldn't gain much height) though it seems like it would be super hard to balance. It was a pretty cool entry and your idea was pretty unique.

I love the twist of a otherwise overused mechanic. The art and music are also pretty good!

I had to sacrifice 102 subjects to arrive until the end 🤷‍♂️ ( The light diver are really too strong )

Your game is awesome, the idea and his execution are top, nice reference to portal, the little messages for each robot are very funny, graphics and effect fit well with your game, very good job here ! 👍

I like the death messages, they make the game so much better.

I really like the premise of that game.

Anyways, it took me 54 deaths to finnish this.

Very nicely done! This was a common approach to the theme and the random ability made this entry stand out. Cute graphics. I soft-locked when I stacked 3 bodies against a wall, wasn't sure if there was a reset key.

I enjoyed the individuality in the robot's performance! NICE GAME!!!

This game was nice, and also funny I liked it so much, My favorite was the light jump driver, Although I figured a bug with this character, I was able to jump inside a wall 😁I got stuck inside the wall, but after pressing space again I got to the top boundary of the game, I actually liked this bug.

This game is awesome ! The graphics are great and i love the fact that we had use dead bodies as platforms. The music is great but sounds a bit repetitive, maybe you should try to loop between 2 similar musics. Also, the level design is really great, it's polished and even if it seems hard, every jump is possible and well made. I also loved the death messages like "Ratio + L bozo" and everything. Really well made and polished game !

PS : Could you rate my game ?

Really cool game, initially my team would had the same idea about the dead bodies acting as platforms after you die. The game was really enjoyable. One thing that would have been really nice is a music and sfx volume slider. The sounds were too loud and I had to adjust other settings on my PC to be able to listen to songs and play the game together.

Other than that, great job!! :)

You gotta pay that finish-line painter a little more money. Looks like they should've added a coat of white paint first. :)

This was a lot of fun! I especially enjoyed the dive mechanic, which I hadn't seen before. The bottom-of-screen commentary made dying a little more enjoyable. Wasn't a fan of the grinding spikes (or whatever they were) that ate my body - though more checkpoints could maybe mitigate that. Also I was able to use the dive ability to clip through the ceiling, in the area where there's a narrow hallway of spikes. It didn't really help me, but I felt the rush of Super Mario Bros Level 1-2 for a minute there :).

Excellent polish with the faded particles, menu screen, etc. It feels like a Game Boy game, remastered for 16:9.

Very cool concept and I like the overall art direction. Being forced to die so I could advance was a bit frustrating, I think a few more checkpoints would remedy that though :)

Nice game, loved the art style and death messages. If I press S + Space I somehow glitch trough the floor, this only happens in the WebGL version of the game. Otherwise nice game, I really enjoyed!

Developer

That might not be a glitch - The SuperJump and Diver abilities are not the same. The Diver ability is intended to dive into the ground, then jump back on it. I understand how it might look like a glitch though.

Thank you so much for playing!

Nice pixel art and groovy music. I like the way you use text  to introduce different gameplay mechanics as the level progresses. Cool!

Nice game! I really like the artstyle and the concept of the game it was really fun. The only feedback I have is that the characters with the high jump would fall through the map when using the ability which was annoying. Other than that great work!

Developer

Thank you for playing! The Diver ability is intended to dive through the ground, then jump back on. So that probably was not a glitch! The SuperJump ability on the other hand, just jumps high on ground. I think it might not be well explained in-game so it may seem like a glitch. Thanks for the feedback!

Nice concept! I really like the fact that you used multiple ways to approach the theme by using different mechanics that fits it, that is interesting. The introduction was nice, and I'm all in for that cynical "portal-esque" universe that mixes cynism with humor, it's a really nice touch =p. Some death messages were hilarious ^^.

The base game design is quite good, I really enjoyed the idea of playing multiple characters, but the experience was a bit imbalanced: a lot of robot types cannot really advance in the level and you have no other choice than suiciding and hoping to get a better robot, which can be frustrating ^^'. I would have prefered less robots, but each one having their own way to advance each section, so I never feel "unfairly trapped".

Let me give you an example: you created a section where small jumps are needed to advance, and another section where long jumps are needed. If you put them one after the other and I arrive in the "small jump" area with a light character, it's doomed and my only choice is to die => frustration. Now, if you put these two areas as two entrances that leads to the same place, I'll have to think about where to go, depending on my current robot => not frustrating :p.

The idea of using the bodies of you previous selves as platforms is good, but the fact that they are still physical objects make them hard to use, because they often just fall. You should make them kinematic so they won't move ^^. But when I managed to use a previously useless robot as a platform, it felt good, nice job!

The audio and graphism are both simple, but fitting and efficient.

So yeah, overall it is a neat idea with a combination of two interesting concepts, and it just needs a bit of refinment to be a truly great experience! But, since this is a game jam, nobody has time for refinment, so I see no real drawbacks, and only possible improvements =)

I love the Portal-esque aesthetic and humor too. The death messages were one of the first things that I thought of in development haha

I totally agree that the abilities can be unbalanced. For example, the "Light" modifier is quite strong compared to the other ones. And the "Heavy" modifier is not good for a lot of places. (But believe me, it was worse, you used to have a "Slow" modifier and a "None" ability, I removed them haha)

The game was not really intended to be a "rage game", but it somehow kinda turned into one.

Giving more than one path to continue seems like an interesting idea! I might explore that idea in the future.

The bodies having physics was intended too. For example you could pile them up and make a big area to jump on. But that also made it harder on some other places.

Thank you so much for playing and thank you for your feedback!!

Wow, great concept and great game. This was really fun to play and try. I am surprised you finished all of this in under a week!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! It was hard to pull it off on time but it was worth it!
