In what way does your game fit the theme?
Twin Ship Shooter is a space-shooter with the added twist of having two ships to control. They move together, fight together and die together.
Moving them apart from each other makes dodging easier, but being together provides a huge deal of firepower. The gameplay revolves around choosing the correct strategy for every scenario.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes, except for the crt-shader, everything has been hand crafted by us for this game jam

Interesting take on the art style. I like that it's made in Godot. The mechanics are almost same old space shooters of the old and the music goes along with it. Nicely done.

Interesting game! Love that classic arcade-style, and it fits the theme quite well. I found sticking the two ships together heavily decreased the difficulty of the game, and I think the health of the ships is too much. I suggest adding some mechanics that the game forces the player to separate the two ships in some ways, e.g. the ships can only stick with each other for 3 seconds, but the bullets will be power up when they are together, etc. That will make the game more fun and challenging. Good job!

Thanks for giving TTS a go :)

We originally planned to make much more to make the player think about their ship's positioning, from special moves that can be pulled off when together and environmental effects to force them apart. Sadly we couldn't get it all done due to Time Constraints. Right now there are more and more enemy patterns which incentivise the player to split the ships apart the farther the levels progress, which culminates in the final boss, but you are right that there isn't much more to encourage this spread-apart playstyle.

Maybe we'll rework/rethink the game outside of this Game Jam at some point. When we actually have the time to implement all this stuff xD

Regardless, thank you very much for your constructiveness. We're glad you enjoyed our game :D

I really liked this game! I felt the controls were responsive and the premise worked really well for the theme. I also enjoyed how the asteroids could destroy the enemy ships. I think that worked very nicely and added a lot to the game feel.

If you wanted to improve, I suggest not allowing the two ships to overlap. That made the game a lot easier and made it so it was easier to have one ship that fired twice as fast. My suggestion is to have one ship not fire if the other is in front of it.

Overall fun game!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing TTS ^^

Yeah, positioning your ships next to each other (especially in front of each other) is a very strong strategy right now, since we didn't have the time to fine-tune the level design to really counteract this. If we at some point decide to fix or rework the game this is definitely something we'll rethink.

We're glad you enjoyed the game, and thank you tons for the feedback :)

Hey! Nice game. It reminds me of a hypercasual game concept where you choose to destroy different obstacles. One thing, the jam theme could be a little more special, like for example you can loose a spaceship and you get weaker so after that, you can notice that you were, in fact, "stronger together". To be honest, all the details were perfect. Very professional as someone down here said. Great game, and the color selection! Very original and nice touch.

Thanks a lot for the kind feedback!

I can perfectly see where you're coming from regarding the jam theme. We originally planned to add special attacks the two ships could perform together, but couldn't include them due to time constraints. It's our first Game Jam, so we still went a bit overboard with our planned features xD

Maybe we'll polish this one up and update it at some point. We'll have to see, since we still have another project in the works.

Anyway, thanks a lot. We're glad you enjoyed TSS ^^

Nice to see that someone here used godot for their game (I didnt make snowball disaster with godot but i am a huge fan of that engine). I liked music and aesthetics. Shooting asteroids and those things in a shape of pigs is quite fun but i was kinda disappointed that i didnt get more spaceships to control as i progressed. I thought that at the end i will be in control of the whole fleet :( Also I didnt manage to beat the boss - it had very strange path , like, going outside the view and still shooting at me. And of course I dont know what happens after that enemy, so possibly i missed something

Thanks for checking TSS out ^^

Yeah, we were using Godot for some smaller projects for about a year or two now. It really is our favourite engine at the moment, since all the others we tested were either way too big and bloated or way too small and basic. It was also a fun challenge to learn the ins and outs of GDScript, since we were only using the C# version of Godot up until now. It went actually reasonably well for our first Game Jam.

Regarding the boss: We know of the issue you're having. It's a bug that kinda sneaked its way in there during the last hours of development. Laurence (how we call him) tends to go off screen for a couple of seconds, and then comes back. This doesn't make the fight impossible, but really drags it out. That's a shame because after that there are two more levels, one additional music track (which is my favourite) and the big final boss to finish the game. There's nothing we can do about this right now, but we will fix this as soon as the voting period is over, so stay tuned if you want to play the full game at some point :)

Regardless of this, thank you so much both for checking the game out and leaving such a constructive comment. We appreciate the feedback and are glad you enjoyed our game :D

The graphics are awesome, I had a lot of fun playing it, and the feature of change the colour of the menu and all the things in screen is really great I like it a lot!!!

love the music! however i hope u can adjust the rocks by level basis

Developer

Thank you :D

And don't worry, there are four entire levels. The asteroid section at the beginning is just the first half of the first level, where the player can get familiar with the controls and gameplay. There is much more variety shortly after ^^

Great Game!

I love the audio and the game mechanics!

Thanks, we're glad you enjoyed it ^^

Wow, the aesthethics are truly amazing! The music fits 100% with the game, the cutscenes, animations, the shader, and all the details together just make this an incredible game, it almost seems like a professional game.
Also the game itself it's quite addictive, I enjoyed it a lot, congratulations!

Thanks a lot, we're glad you enjoyed it! We did our best to get everything as polished as possible in the little time available.

Really enjoyed the breakable Asteroids, I thought that was a really nice touch.  Good job!

The art and music in this game were amazing! I also really liked the mechanic. The only thing I would change is nerfing when the two ships overlap as it's like controlling one longship with double the firepower.

Developer

We're glad you liked TSS. It was our first Game Jam and we're glad it came out well ^^

Regarding moving one ship in front of the other: It really is pretty strong currently. Later in the game more projectiles come from the sides, making this strategy more difficult, but the scope of the Game Jam sadly disallowed us to add enemies which would specifically target this. But who knows, maybe we'll polish TSS up at some point and make something fully fledged out of it.

Anyway, thank you for your kind feedback, it's greatly appreciated :D

Really fun game! What engine was it made in?

Developer

Thanks, it's made with Godot

The graphics look very good. It kind of reminds me of Asteroid. I liked the strategy in it.

it is simple but still a lot fun! a classic space shooter game can aways popular

This was a pretty good game! The art is simple but works to make the game feel satisfying. The music is really good as well! I like the varied amount of enemies that i saw. I also didn't quite get why i needed to only control one character when i could just move them both together and play like that. The only thing i wish this game had was a high-score system. Would be really amazing if you checked out my game as well homie lol

Developer

Thanks a lot for checking out Twin Ship Shooter, and especially for leaving such a detailed response :)

We're glad you liked it. A high-score or point system would actually be an interesting idea. For the movement: As the levels progresses the level design gets more and more tricky and makes you consider how to effectively position your ships next to each other. This gets especially important for the final boss.

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to leave such a detailed comment. I'll give your game a go and comment on your submission page when I'm done.

I really like how the rocks break into smaller pieces. Adds so much to the difficulty, but also to the graphics in general. Good game!

What a beautiful game! I really liked the style of it. Great job on picking the colors. What I did was just put them together... but it did seem like it was the wrong strategy :D Good job on this!
