What a good game. At first, I thought it not only was unfair but also super hard to figure out how the game worked, but the clever design in telling you that we can learn from past generations (our previous runs) was the thing that I loved the most about the game. From that, I was able to slowly figure out how everything worked and finally beat the game!
I was left with an excellent experience and a feeling of accomplishment.
Huge congratulations to the team behind this amazing game.
Thanks for the kind words, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
Nice game! Audio and visuals are fantastic and even though a little hard it's interesting to try and figure it out. I feel like the only thing missing is some sort of "snap" animation and sound when you put a card in a slot on the left. First card game I've played, good job overall.
The audio and visuals creates a really nice atmosphere. The puzzle is clever and tricky to get all of them properly, well done guys!
Very interesting puzzle game. I had to read the hints provided but eventually figure it out :D. Great work on this jam :D
Awesome puzzle !
It took me a few minutes to understand, but I really like how cryptic it is, feels rewarding when it clicks.
I had to click on this game when i saw the name and vibe you were going with, believe it or not, "Appeasement" was one of the ideas we had for our game too ! It's so awesome to see another person who made their game about giving offerings to a demonic creature behind a door 😅 though we took completely different approaches to the concept. yours turned out great, the art is fantastic, and the puzzle an addictive brain teaser that fits the whole tarot-card ritualistic occult premise, and using candles to signify your remaining moves is genius !
the randomisation is also super neat, mixes up every round so you can't just brute force it, and I imagine the random hand of cards always has a solution, like by working backwards from the solution when you're generating the hand.
and yeah the hints are the perfect blend of cryptic but helpful, so that it still feels rewarding when you figure it out.
come check out our game if you'd like, you might notice a few parallels between our games, it would have been funny if they had the same name too. quick disclaimer: in one of the menus of our game, before clicking the "feed" button you have to select the items under it by clicking them first, we've had a lot of players get confused by that menu design 😅
Art is really nice. Solved it one way, though you can add a manual in game, even if its just to tell names of different symbols.
Really strong puzzle that had me pulling out the pen and paper. Figuring out each individual mechanic felt rewarding, and the atmosphere and music were great. I think the first 'hint' in the description should be stated within the game, this is because not only does the player not know the mechanics, but we also don't know the goal, making this functionally impossible without at least the 1st hint (unless it was decipherable through the loading quotes, in that case I missed it). Solid entry.
Yeah, the hints at the start of each try were supposed to be the clues for the solution but in retrospect that was a bad way to go for multiple reasons. Glad you managed to enjoy it anyway! :)
You know a game is good when you pull out your notebook and start taking notes.
It has to be said that the art is incredible and the music is fantastic. I often times feel during these gamejams that a game's music gets not nearly enough praise especially if it was made by a dedicated composer / audio designer. I love the fact that the game gives you no hints, which is also very fitting for the eldritch ancient magic theme you're going for. The actions were fun to figure out, but the final expected outcome was a bit unintuitive, I initially expected that I had to max every card out. Really good game!
Thank you for the lovely feedback, it's very much appreciated! :)
Really beatiful card game, so we fall in love with art
Nice game. It took me a while to figure out what the buttons did on the ritual, the incantation, etc... I think a simple puzzle to start that has a bit of a tutorial (or something) on how the switches work would've been nice. I almost gave up but then hit the button and saw it changed. I originally thought I had to deal the cards into the slots in a specific order, I didn't even know I could change them!
Once I got it though. Really cool game. I liked the puzzle idea. It did make me think what other requests the creature behind the door could make? Is there a way to make more levels?
Nice work though. And I loved the atmosphere.
D
Art style and sound design are top notch. The gothic puzzle atmosphere has a nice vibe. I agree with EmberByte, I think I would have gotten the hang of this if I had first been given two cards, then three, then four etc over the course of several puzzles. Some feedback on screen as to whether I've done something good would be helpful as well. Great job working with the theme of the jam as well.
Really cool game, at the beginning i didn't know what i was doing.
If you have time check out my game.
Hell yeah
The visuals were really nice, and I actually had fun trying to solve some of the riddles!
Kudos to the door entity for having so much patience. The atmosphere was great and the music helped to set the mood. I wish there was a way to quickly start the next attempt as I knew I was failing most of the time. Interesting brain twister!
Love the art and animation
Gameplay wise I feel it's kinda obtuse and not that compelling
Imo there should be fail animations that hint at what you are doing wrong
I think this probably should have been a multi step ritual (where you first start with 3 cards then 4 and 5) to ramp up the difficulty and explore a bit of the design space here.
I really loved the artstyle and the sounds!
wasnt really a game that "talked" to me but still very well done!
Great game!
The art style of the game is really great. I like the demon / ritualistic vibes it has. The cards designs are the best part though. They look neat and fit really well with the rest of the aesthetics. I feel like I'm lookin at some cursed cards, or a cursed tarot deck or something like that. Loved them. The audio design is good too. For some reason I was entranced by the chant SFX, couldn't stop playing it lmao.
I have to agree with others that the rules are not clear from the start. Hadn't I read that you need to keep "one thing the same and another different" I would have never guessed it. I guess more hints about that would be great. This is important because it's the basis of everything else but it's the most obscure part. The rest you can deduce yourself really. I didn't realize the ritual was changing in order of size, but I did realize that it followed a certain order, and knowing what each section does is not hard. But yeah, without that initial hint of what is my objective I was just switching stuff around.
Really great idea though and loved playing your game!
Thanks for the feedback, in retrospect I definitely should've focused more on finding ways to work solution hints into the main gamescreen.
the rules were not clear... tho i love the art
Sorry to hear that, I've updated the full spoiler to be a bit more explicit and give examples.
Didn't understand the rules. Art is really awesome same for the music. Maybe if you could show an example of a good solution in the hints of the page could give it an other try.
Thanks the the suggestion! I've added examples to the full spoiler.
Nice thank you! Checking it
