I really like the lantern sound effects and title screen animation. For me, the game came down to: do I just stay at this lantern, or do I try and save this lantern that is kinda far away, and that works quite well for a risk reward gameplay system.

Wow, such a creative project! Perfect music and SFX, beautiful visuals, and... a tutorial (though I would let the player read it from the beginning, not just after death).

At the same time, I would add an ability to set the full screen and change the resolution, as I had to play a downloadable version on a tiny screen. Good job!

The better tutorial was amazing

Simple but creative and fun game. The visuals and audio were honestly amazing and the tutorial at the beginning was so simple and informative I liked it a lot.

Developer

Thank you very much!! Making the tutorial was an honest balancing act, it's difficult to stay within the subtle sorta-ethereal tone of the narrator while also getting across to the player what to do and what not to do. I'm glad it seems to have worked for some!

My reaction when I played the game:

I like the idea and how you put it in the gameplay!!!

Could you pllllllllllllsssssssssssssss try my game too?

Thank you very much!! Your game was up pretty soon in my to-do list actually, I can definitely get to it within the next couple hours or so

Hey so the "better tutorial" (which I waited to look at until after failing like three times because I, a fool, didn't realize I had to stay in the lights) is one of the best things I've seen in this jam so far. It made me CACKLE. My current best is only 103 seconds but I do feel compelled to keep at it--you've created a really interesting, fun gameplay loop here, with great visual and sound design to back it up. The little plop sounds of the lanterns are marvelous!

Developer

AHAHA I'm glad someone found it funny!! A streamer played through it last night and was entirely unamused and I was soooo worried it would come off in a mocking fashion. I could definitely serve to have the tutorial emphasize that being away from lanterns hurts you a little more since it seems to be a common point of confusion. I'm glad you vibe with it so much!!

to any future commenters! please be warned that the game, in its current jam state, is far more rng-reliant than it's supposed to be. i had written some code to be sure that at least one lantern would actively chase down an unlit lantern... and then commented it out for debug reasons, never to be uncommented. this does unfortunately mean that you can lose a game due to factors completely out of your hands, and i'm sorry about that. thank you for giving the game a try anyway!

nice job doing this game i like it very much it very challenging

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! I'm hoping to release a post-jam patch to make it a little less challenging, as of right now it is (entirely accidentally) more RNG-based than I had ever intended for it to be ^^

FREAKING 10/10 I LOVE IT SO MUCH YESSS FREAK YESSSSSS

Okay, the begginning cutscene is SO GOOD, the story plays out in a relaxed state, with the dark tones, and the audio like lulling you to sleep, its AMAZING!

AUDIO IS SO GOOD

JEEZ, if this game wins, I'll be happy, I'll tell ya that!

:D

It reminds me of indie projects like hollow knight and stuff, relaxing, beautiful, simple, CINEMA!

thanks a lot, if possible, could you rate/review my game?

Have a great one,!!!

Stew

Developer

Thank you very much!! The audio is easily the part of the project I gave the most care so I'm ecstatic at it being such a standout for you! I gave your game a look, a rate, and a review :)

You did a nice job with the game. the game play was a bit difficult but that might just be me. all in all, well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! It is not just you--there was a function in the game that had the nearest lit lantern chase a newly unlit lantern that I commented out for debug reasons and never uncommented. So it's far harder than I ever intended and that's on me!

The visuals of this game are amazing! I love how they look! The gameplay was kind of fun, but I had no idea what I was doing until the better tutorial (which caught me off guard lol). It is surprisingly difficult to stay alive. I enjoyed this game. Good job!

Developer

Thank you very much! I did leave the initial tutorial intentionally vague, as I felt it fit with the general aesthetic/jam weirdness factor to have a tutorial you'd have to interpret from visuals and vague clues. But I get it, and I'm glad the better tutorial fallback seems to have worked out. Sorry about the difficulty, that's due to a bug where I commented out the function that games the game much less RNG-reliant!
