How did you interpret the theme?
Well darkness and its total BLACKOUT and you're banishing the lights and stuff i'd say its pretty fitting

Great Game!! the camera shake effect when close to a light is a great cherry on top! the art is also cool it reminds me of marker drawings lol. and the lights look like undertales battle moving system where you have to dodge stuff! really really good idea for such a game!

Thanks :D

An interesting game, though it was too difficult for me 😭 Skill issue, I believe.

Well-made, considering the time allotted for development. Good job!

I had no idea how the game works at the start, I had to guess the controls and the game myself. I enjoyed the game though after I learned how to play it and I played for like 10 minutes.

Developer

thats why i put the "how to play" button there

Oops! I missed that button. Sorry about that.

I'm unsure how many of my issues can be attributed to the lack of delta time, as you've stated in these comments and on Discord. I tried moving the game window to another monitor (my main one's 180hz, I have one that's 60hz) and it didn't change anything but I could be mistaken about how browser games work internally.

In any case--the gameplay loop ended up being staying in the dead center, getting one light show up on the left, waiting a few/several seconds, getting an attack where 3 lights come at me from all directions but left, banish them, collect, wait a couple more seconds, rinse and repeat with the same two attacks. I figure that the attack variety might also be impacted by said delta time bug, and it's a real shame (1) in general! I feel massively for you, as someone who commented out a critical QoL feature in my own game (2) because I like your take on the theme and think this could be a lot of fun if there were more, but slower, lights. If you're planning a patch I will happily revisit after the jam!

yeah im prob gonna do a post jam patch

This is really simple, and i LOVE IT!!! It's an amazing game!

So, the game could be good, but the speed of the monsters is way too fast and to have them zero in on the spawn point in the beginning is very frustrating. Then after a few minutes 6 thousand lights show up, yeah thats not good.

So, maybe adjust the spawn point, the speed of the lights, and how many spawn all at once.

ok, so, i think i found the problem with the lights being way too fast, i forgot to use delta time, so if you have a high framerate, the lights move really fast.

when i playtested the game it felt normal since it was running on 60 fps
sorry about that!

Really nice game! That one light at the start kept catching me off guard lol. This game also really needs some music. That would just make it feel so much more complete. Great job!

Submitted(+1)

Haha made me feel like a squid trying to survive the deep

Really nice idea and fun gameplay loop, it just needs some background music and a some more variety in upgrades and light movements.

Developer

thanks! :D

Hey, we made opposite games! Very much enjoyed being the shadow monster in yours :)

I wasn't able to find any dark matter in ~5 minutes of play, but the light-dodging was delightful regardless (especially with that little bit of screen-shake on a near miss!)

Developer

you need to banish lights and they'll drop it
you can kinda see the range around you

BANISH LIGHTS?!?! Ok clearly missed most of the cool mechanics here haha. I gave it another go--even better (and way more difficult) with the progression!

Really cool game! It would definitely benefit from a soundtrack or some background music, but besides that, I really liked it. Keep up the good work!

Developer(+1)

thanks! i couldnt find any music that fit my game in time so i just accepted that it would be mostly silent
