  • I think this is a crisp neat little concept that ticks most of the boxes. For me it was just missing the whoa factor, some time polishing up the game and gameplay will really do it justice i think. I specifically had some issues with the controls not working for movement on one of my computers and had to revert to using another computer.
  • Fun concept and would definitely play better multiplayer as the AI felt a bit overpowered. Also the scoring is unclear and little counter intuitive as you are risking your scoring when you harvest crops but despite this it can be quite engaging

Hey!

How are you? It's Ilias again. I have some new questions for you.

What do you think about game jams in general, and this game jam in particular? What do you think could have been better, and do you have any suggestions?

What were your favorite video games?

Where do you think the strength of video games resides? What do you believe a video game should have to be a successful video game?

If you would like, you can tell me a little bit more about yourself and your background, if you have any information you would like to share.

Thank you in advance,

Ilias.

Super fun. Good use of the theme and very much a rivalry game. Only had a CPU to play against, wow that was difficult. Would be cool to see a difficulty setting for the AI. Great game with a lot of potential in my opinion.

Hey Zeldariomon (@zeldariomon)!

How are you? My name is Ilias.

I tested your game "Farmland".

Farming is beautiful — planting, watering, caring, and harvesting crops, then eating homegrown food. It's a pleasant and rewarding experience. I think that is why farming games are successful nowadays.

I suppose you are  a farming lover too ?

Questions:

  • Did you include any optimization techniques, or did you choose to include only the in-engine ones?
  • What engine and tools did you use to create your game, your graphics?
  • Was it hard to develop your game ? Did you experience any challenges?
  • What inspired you for your game idea and the gameplay? The game's name and story?

N.B: It would mean a great deal to me if you could rate my game. If you haven't already, feedback from friends and fellow gamers is valuable to me. Thank you in advance for your consideration and your time.

Thanks! -Ilias.

Well made game - high 'rivalry' feeling from this one for me. Good artwork, sound, music, controls. I at first skipped the tutorial & then went back to learn how to play 😂

Cute graphic and fun gameplay. Just wondering is the red one who stole my carrots is my companion? xD

I got my ass handed over by the CPU - no chance at all :D

Graphics, sounds and music was spot on. In general, it was a very nice entry!

The graphics are simple, but extremely beautiful and cute, I really liked it, along with the calm background music that gives a great feeling throughout the gameplay. I had a bug that has already been mentioned, where only the tutorial screen appears after completing it for the first time. The enemy AI is very good, also very difficult haha, I found that it's much faster than me when it comes to planting seeds and using water, it destroyed my plantation several times, in revenge, I did the same. Congratulations on the project!

Great idea, the AI is crazy good, I have huge trouble keeping up with his pace, I feel like I’m stuck longer than him when planting or harvesting, but I guess I’m not and I’m just too slow.. I’m not sure I saw a companion though, but I really like the pixel art and the simple design too, well done!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback and playing my game. This was my first attempt to a Utility based AI system but it turned out pretty successful, I’ll try learning more about it to use it on other game projects eventually.

It's a pretty unique take on farming games, and I did enjoy playing it. Though, were two bugs I noticed, when you refill your water, the tutorial ends, even if you haven't done anything else. And secondly, I'm not entirely sure how it happened but when I finished the tutorial, I noticed the only option on the main menu was to click the tutorial again. I can't seem to replicate it though, so I suppose it's not a huge deal :P

A fun game though for sure! Well done!

Thanks for the feedback! I really don’t know what’s wrong with itch player prefs, since I wanted to first let the player play the tutorial when someone opens the game for the first time. I’ll have to look at it later! Thanks though!

cool art work, with a unique gameplay mechanics, at first didn't read the description so though winning was based on amount gathered rather than tiles occupied, a warning for this near the end of the time would have helped me understand :)

Developer

Thanks a lot, yeah that’s a critical suggestion that I could add as the game was ending. I’ll add it to my backlog for this
