  • The game looks and feels very polished, I really like the unique approach to the health system as well as the UI and art style in general. The game was a bit difficult to understand how to play at the start but after multiple runs it became pretty fun
  • This game is really great and truely ambitious for a game jam, the sheer amount of content in single player alone is huge. The systems involved with getting this all together is great. I really liked the art style with the music to fit. In terms of the theme i think you kind of tick the boxes and do it well but perhaps could have improved with the twist at least. I can probably assume things were cut out of the game or scaled back to get things done. I could probably safely say in my view this is easily a top 5 submission and to improve on things i really think it probably comes down to time. Please do send me a link in discord of this game when its completed.

Hey WuzHisFace !

How are you? It's Ilias again. I have some new questions for you.

What do you think about game jams in general, and this game jam in particular? What do you think could have been better, and do you have any suggestions?

What were your favorite video games?

Where do you think the strength of video games resides? What do you believe a video game should have to be a successful video game?

If you would like, you can tell me a little bit more about yourself and your background, if you have any information you would like to share.

Thank you in advance,

Ilias.

I like the artwork it fits the game well, the pace feels good, there were multiple times where i had no clue what to do, I think a short tutorial would really help someone new to this genre :)

Hey   WuzHizFace !

How are you? My name is Ilias.

I have some questions about your game Venatu :

Did you include any optimization techniques, or did you choose to include only the in-engine ones?

What engine and tools did you use to create your game, your graphics?

Was it hard to develop your game  ? Did you experience any challenges?

What inspired you for your game idea and the gameplay ? The game's name and the game's story?

N.B: It would mean a great deal to me if you could rate my game. If you haven't already, feedback from friends and fellow gamers is valuable to me.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and your time.

Thanks!

 -Ilias.

Hey Ilias! I actually already rated your game, it was one of the games I was watching on Discord. Super nice graphics and smooth animations!

- Did you include any optimization techniques, or did you choose to include only the in-engine ones?

I actually didn't add a ton of optimization, since it's not a very intensive game.

- What engine and tools did you use to create your game, your graphics?

I designed all of the sprites in Krita, and the game was designed in Unity. Multiplayer was done through the Photon Engine package.

- Was it hard to develop your game  ? Did you experience any challenges?

It was pretty hard to make in the timespan, and I even had to cut out a lot of functionality that would have really contributed to the game a lot. Most of the challenges I faced were to do with networking, since the game is multiplayer. I won't get into the specifics since it'll probably bore you, but just trying to figure out what's going on between clients is always a pain.

- What inspired you for your game idea and the gameplay ? The game's name and the game's story?

I've always liked dungeon crawlers, and I got the idea of having both the rivals and the companions be the same person/people since it would help set me apart. The rest of the idea just followed behind trying to make that work.

The name actually comes from the word Venatio, which was a form Roman entertainment where gladiators battled lions and panthers. I thought it fit because that's what the story is about, more or less.

Thanks for taking interest in my game, it means a lot!

Oh , Thanks for the ratings ! i am still trying to improve it , some feature didnt work on HTML5 , apperently it dosent support all what windows support yet .

i guess krita is open source ? i think i tried it once before .

yeah the timespans sometimes can make it harder to do the thing we like !

Thank you again for rating m game !

One of the games whose progress I was seeing on discord. Happy to finally see the finished game. Artwork & UI 👌👏 Amazing work on that, How did you even manage to make all that in the time frame man? Sound effects are also so juicy. This is a very well & complete game. You should definitely work on this & possibly release a paid version either here on itch or steam.
Super well done on this!

I liked the idea of the game, congratulations on the work!

I spent a lot of time on this and have no regrets. If you beat the game, you can spend many hours in it with me, there is also multiplayer.

Nice one, we could use some visual feedbacks to indicate what we are doing, especially when i wanted to know are we attacking or doing damage, after a while of camping and getting ambushed ( i sucked loll )

well this hapened, anyways nice game!

Developer

Oh I'll have to look into that one. Thanks for the feedback!

Wow, there's a lot in the game. Very nice for the game jam, but at first it's a bit difficult to understand how to play xD

Oh, the art and music are perfect!

What an impressive experience, a bit hard to understand overall, I’m still not sure I really got all the details correctly because I couldn’t kill a crab at some point, but at least I did not trigger the pvp right away like in my first attempt. The inventory was clean and perfectly usable, and I really liked the health system too, with the limb we lose, definitely a nice touch, and the UI is well designed, and last but not least, I did not encounter any bug, and seeing the complexity of the game is pretty impressive too, well done!

Developer

Thanks! It's still a bit buggy, but I'm pretty happy with where I got it in the timespan.

I think I could have done a lot better with how player friendly it is, I'll for sure keep this in mind for future projects. I appreciate the feedback!

This may be my favorite so far, amazing work and a great take on the themes. It's amazing how much depth this has in such a short timeframe.

Combat is clear and well made, your artworks are simple but endearing, really great combo overall honestly. I love that rythm of rest and explorations, really feels like a simplified Dnd campaign, I have yet to try it in multiplayer but having the option to betray each others sounds like a great addition.

I adore your four characters by the way, really nice to see you didn't stick to the usual thief/mage/warrior archetypes, they all feels fresh and interesting. You really went above and beyond with this one.

Developer

Thanks! This project took a ton of time and there was actually still even more depth I had to scrap due to lack of time. I appreciate the feedback :D

Dialogues are a bit scarce but really enjoyable and I was really surprise to see you actually tracks wounds in real time on each character sprite. You really went above and beyond with this one

This was something else. I think I really dig the visuals and music. On the other hand, I was very overwhelmed and searching my way in this game. I took some time to get acquainted, but it could be a short run for other (and new) players.

Anyway: standout for me were the visuals, very very nice!

(singe player run with bots)

Developer

Haha yeah, it's not very accommodating to new players. I think 3/4 play testers I had literally had no idea what was going on, I think with a bit more time I could make it easier to get into for sure.

The visuals are my proudest point for sure, I'm glad people seem to like them :D
