I loved the retro sci-fi aesthetic, and would enjoy playing a full game in this style. The whole experience felt like reading an old-fashioned science fiction mystery - one that hooked me at the beginning and didn't let go till the end. Great job!
By the way, I also tried to find an audio version of the original story to listen to, and stumbled upon this:
Have you seen it?Wow, I remember watching that animation years ago! It's great to see it again.
Very very beautiful. Great art, great atmosphere.
Really nice game - I didn't know the short story behind it - but your graphic&sounds work very well with the implementation and the result is impressive. Congratulations
Thank you very much!
Great game! Nice homage to the sci-fi/horror stories of old, worked wonderfully for me. Sound, story and graphics came together to form an absolutely fitting and impressive atmosphere.
Thank you!
This is excellent! Scariest game of the jam by a long shot. The art is gorgeous--you have some really nice charcoal/watercolor brushes/shaders (or was it actual analog art!). The black and white is just great for capturing that Golden Age sci-fi feel. The progression of the game works really well--each time you think it's over something even scarier happens. I just have mixed feelings about making an adaptation of a copyrighted work.
Most of the backgrounds are actually just simple 3D backgrounds that were run through a filter and touched up in Photoshop. I'm actually surprised that people like them so much. :)
And yes, I admit that I had some conflicted feelings about adapting this story as well. It's a bit of a gray area since the magazine issue the story was originally published in is publicly available on archive.org.
Yeah, great atmosphere! Really had me going. The art and audio worked great together. I love setups like this where a character is trapped and you know it's only going to get worse ;) If you'd had time, a bit more interactivity when walking around the town would have been cool, to set more tone and keep the sense of mystery working longer. But you did a lot already, so much nice artwork in this! The comic sections were very tense!
Thank you! I admit that there were areas where I could have added more detail from the source material, but I got a bit short on time and decided to focus on the essential parts of the story instead.
Nice homage to old style science fiction, well executed and with charming comic book feel graphics! I enjoyed it!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
I really enjoyed this one, thank you!!
Thank you for the comment!
Very good short game, nice style! I found the story very well narrated and interesting, with some funny things and scary monsters haha. The situation was well described and the art was very nice. I'm not fond of horror/scary stories but this one worked for me!
Thank you!
Beautiful art, i liked the sequences made as comic. Maybe too much text For my tastes, but in general i liked!
Thank you!
This is not my favorite style of game, I was stuck in the first part for a long time. Even that I liked. the game has beautiful art.
Thank you!
Great game! I loooooved the art style. I agree with Jagger - easy 5/5 atmosphere!
Thank you!
Worked for me. Nice art style. I generally don't like point and click games though so I'm afraid I didn't keep playing long enough to rate it
Fair enough. Thanks for the comment!
Unfortunately I'm having an issue trying to play this where popups like text close immediately after they open, making it impossible to play. Hopefully it's not too hard of a bug to fix, this looks awesome :)
Hmm...that's a very strange bug you're describing. The text messages shouldn't close unless you click the mouse or press a key. It's probably a silly question, but are you running the game in Windows?
THIS IS ART!
I played it more than one time.
First game this year I played with a clear 5/5 atmosphere!
Opposite to Richard I had the time to relax and enjoy it.
The drawings are so lovely, dude.
The story is so perfect. I like it very much!
"I am the Purple-Striped Grabber. I grab things." MADE MY DAY!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
