graphics&sounds are intriguing - but (probably due to my slow PC) moving to reach a meaningful point takes really a lot of times :-|
The environment is beautiful but some textures are in low resolution quality, or very stretched.
I walked for almost 5 minutes until I got the gun and died in 10 seconds :( .
Even so, I liked the game, it's very beautiful.
Thanks for the feedback!
The stretched and low quality textures were intentional.
"I walked for almost 5 minutes until I got the gun and died in 10 seconds :(" - I must admit that wasn't the most well thought out bit of game design there
There are still many issues when I play, but with more work it could result in something really really cool! In my opinion you tried too much to focus on realistic textures and HD, because you could have given on purpose a very nice retro style. I actually do like a lot your screenshots when I see them in small size, because the simple models and the colors remind me of some old japanese games. The pink/purple sky adds a lot to it by giving a jap anime atmosphere, which is a very good thing imo. What I want to say is that your Cool Adventure could look even more COOL with no antialiasing and with a low resolution, by forcing a PS1 or N64 style. I know that nowadays people want 4k 4k 4k, but during a Jam you're free to try many different things, so why not? Games that come to my mind when I see your world are for example Starfox or Sins and Punishment on the Nintendo 64.
Thanks for the feedback! Agree that more lower res textures would've been better. I was aiming for more of a mish-mash between different levels of visual fidelity but ended up using too many high res textures. I might also try going for a PS1/N64 aesthetic sometime.
Well, its always complicated. I see that Brian Victor above is complaining about the low resolution textures in another comment, so as most often, it is a matter of taste. I would personally choose to go for a retro N64 style on purpose, but I played these games in their time, so I have a kind of nostalgia feeling that others will not have. I just think that whatever direction you choose (retro or hd), you have to take it completely and accept that some people will not like it. Add your own touch!
Fall through the hole for adventures! Some of your textures are very pretty-looking, especially the water. That must have been hard to do. But I do think there are still a lot of issues with this game that need to be ironed out--for instance, are you supposed to be able to fall through the water and just walk around on the floor of the map?
Thanks for the feedback! You're right there are definitely plenty of issues, mostly due to me trying to make it in a very short space of time. Although a nice thing about being able to walk under water is that if you fall in near the shore and then walk onto land then it feels a bit like you're doing a Saving Private Ryan-style beach invasion :p.
It looks beautiful and I loved the sound of the waves and seagulls. But I lost interest and stop playing after a few minutes. The scale of the landscape is way too big for the the amount of movement. It took forever to follow the path and see the pyramid, even when running.
Thanks, that's useful feedback! And glad you got something out of it at least.
Well I haven't played it yet. There are so many games to play and I have so little time that I have to choose. I must admit that the lack of description (story, 2d or 3d, etc) and the fact that there is a single screenshot doesn't encourage me to download and try. But I will keep an eye on this page, in case the page would evolve with more information. I really like what I see in the screenshot. Congrats for releasing in time!
Thanks for the feedback. I've added some more description and screenshots. Appreciate that you have limited time. I'm planning to gradually make my way through the games submitted to this jam over the coming weeks
Thanks for the new screenshots and description! Very apreciated! I'll give it a try later to vote.
Thanks! I'll be sure to give yours a try as well
