Fun game! This is going to sound random, but it reminded me of the parachute portions from the wii version of a boy and his blob. It was quite a challenge, but fun. I think the only problem is it was sometimes unclear where you had to go.
:) The platforming feels really solid. The float/glide mechanic works well and feels really good to use! The dash felt a bit short and useless when I was trying it out at first, but it works very well for crossing quickly past vertically moving hazards.
The only challenges that felt a bit unfair were the falling ones. It's a bit hard to properly dodge the blocks as you glide down while only seeing one line of hazards at a time. I think this could be improved by allowing the player to see two lines of hazards at a time, though the size of the camera and the hazards both don't currently allow for this. As it is now though, it doesn't allow you to plan for the next obstacle until it gets a bit too late.
Great job overall! It was pretty fun and not too difficult for someone used to playing precision platformers.
The art is amazing and I love the gameplay. I overlooked hover and wasnt being able to pass some parts but once I saw it in description I could make it. It wasnt easy but it is very polished and art is great!
That was really fun! got to the smiley face, i really liked how smooth the jumping and flying mechanics felt, dint end up using the dash for much, great job!
Dash being optional was just for those that wanna try and do it as fast as possible.
After jam if I return to the game I'll be adding a timer, as well as a better system for the AI movement so they don't desync.
Jump buffer, Coyote Time, optimization, respawn resetting enemy positions, and of course... more dress colors.
Good game! I really like the art. The character and palette look good. The game is a bit too challenging for me.
I know that the palette is between two colors, but that is not 1-bit.
The difficulty progression of this makes the game feel bland and uninteresting very fast, you need to first expose the player to more before making him face weird sets of non-stop obstacles. A game can be hard but still slowly expose the player so he gets the hang of it before having to face a challenge.
Felt like a bland platformer, and I also don’t understand where Light and Dark fit in this.
…Although, I do admit that there could be space for interesting gameplay by exposing the player to some smaller, more repetitive tasks, before making him face big non-stop ones. Changing the enemy movement patterns could also help a lot to make the gameplay more engaging.
It really is difficult, I've been hooked for a couple minutes! Lovely art style and responsive controls. I also liked the arpeggiator heavy music. Good work!
Hard game, I liked the hover mechanics and the color choice. Good job!
wow! what a great game!
can really see you put some love in the little details as well, like how she hovers down, animations are rock solid! everything feels very smooth!
Pros: Great art, nice feel with the physics. The gameplay is reminiscent of Celeste or Super Meat Boy, while the dodging of squares reminds me of the World's Hardest Game back in the Flash day. Challenging and makes you want to keep improving. And using the dress to hover is very unique!
Cons: Tough game, but as someone who also made a game that's way harder than it should be, I completely understand with the time limit. If you were to make this without jam pressure, I would suggest having checkpoints slightly more frequently, and IMPORTANTLY reduce the waiting time when respawning. That would really help players get right back into it and less likely to feel frustrated. And I wish the controls were slightly more modifiable. Shift + Space is very awkward for me personally. I think for platforming games, a hack for jams would be to have multiple options for each button, like WASD / arrows to move, Space / Up to jump, Shift / J to dash. Then players can use what they want.
Anyway, great job!
I love this kind of games, Reminds me of the commodore 64 games I really liked the skirt to slow down the fall, ingenious solution! Very fun game but as you said a bit difficult. I found a bug or not a bug?: easy to reach the second check point. just have to die in the right place and you fall on it, which activates it. Nice job!
Really very difficult I had trouble reaching the 3rd checkpoint haha! and yet I have tried many times! But in any case it was nice, the gameplay is fluid and the game is fun!
