This game is so fun, probably the most fun I've played. The spell crafting and different effects are so much fun to play with. My favorite was getting those damage fields down and trying to merc multiple baddies at once.

My only complaint is that I wish I could hold down the W key to go forward multiple cells, and just because I'm bad I wouldn't say no to a minimap :D

Visually I think it hits the mark, with the different art styles in the different dungeons and the cool sprites. The audio is also solid.

Really great entry!

Love it! You made it really interesting and fun to play with the combat. I wanted to keep playing and even lost myself in it at one point! I think you did a great job crafting the experience!

I do have some feedback, though!

My biggest complaint is QOL! Please, let me walk by holding down the key; that is psychological warfare! lol
It's an easy thing to overlook, but oh man, some of the levels were big, and I was so annoyed being forced to tap the keys every time I moved :D

The lack of a map or clear visual indicators/breadcrumbs to tell where I was and where I needed to go was another big QOL improvement I would have liked to have seen. It didn't help that from a distance, the wall textures obscured the doors.

Also, it would be really nice to have some kind of mouse-over indicator or something for the area of effect on the spells. It seems dumb, but it is really easy to misjudge if an enemy is inside them or not, especially when you are changing them often.

There are some obvious things that I think were just the result of time constraints as well things that most jam games suffer from. More audio variety, environment dressing, some more systems, and a bit more depth on existing systems would have been nice, etc. I think this game would work great with an exp/stat system, so you have the ability to invest in HP or mana and maybe allow enhancements to the spell tree in the long term just to provide more build variety and complexity. Also, damage types, enemy resistances, and effects are always a safe bet; I think they would all work well if you planned to continue working on the game.

Outstanding submission though, really enjoyed it!

This is the best combat mechanic I’ve seen in this jam so far! I loved this one.

That said, I do think it was a bit too long (the game crashed on me in the 5th dungeon with an array out of bounds exception). I was excited that the game had a 3rd dungeon that I could explore but by the 4th, it felt like there was not much new happening (or maybe I was missing something).

"FATE SEALED"

The game was longer than I anticipated.

I had a lot of fun playing. The game sounds good and looks great, I really like the visuals of the environments especially of the 5th level, the style is pretty consistent and nice, the tentacle monster of the last level looks cool and I also like that the game features quite some visual effects for the different spell effects and traps, combat visual feedback is good and the game feels extra lively for that (although the gameplay itself is dynamic too). The game controls well, I like that you can use either the number keys or your mouse to cast spells, it's organic and I think I actually used both when playing. The turn-based combat works pretty well for the game, the different enemies are different and the spell system is super engaging, I specially like the different areas of effect, different costs in mana and cooldowns and that the two kinds are not technically correlated (even if very strong spells will naturally cost a lot of both). Since enemies' life is not that big, which is a good thing, stunning effects (root traps, freezing) were not that relevant during my run but I still think they're completely worth being there because they're cool. Killing several enemies with one single spell is super satisfying. The difficulty is perfect for the context of the jam, which is a big plus to me.

I got stuck behind an altar in the very beginning of the level 5 at first, had to kill myself to restart the level.

This is a great entry, thanks for sharing.

Very nice. great graphics and sound.

I would have liked the arrow keys to be an option.

Did get on well with the spell system - there wasn't an obvious way it worked, but I thought that it was a nice addition, so well done on that front.

Combat was fair if a little clunky.

Overall a nice entry :)

The graphics style is super nice. Music and sound effects works well with the game.

Movement is a bit staggery, could be more responsive and faster.

The combat system is very interesting but it is super hard remembering what each spell does from just a number when fighting. Would be nice with some way of knowing how the attacks will unfold without being in the assignment menu.

numbers as casting the spells seems awkward as well when using WASD to move. Since the combat isn't discrete I don't really have time to move the hand to the numbers so I end up crossing my hands to play.

Overall very fun game to play, really enjoyed it!

Solid Entry!

Really nice entry, I loved how you can combine runes and create new spells with it. Movement+sound was especially nice and art was on spot.

I didn’t like that turning around progresses a turn, as it led to a strafe moving. AI was also just dancing with me, while I wait for cooldowns to finish, as it wasn’t trying to take a shortest path to the hero. Game was incompletable for me, as at some level (lvl 5?) rune altar spawned in such a place that it blocked me from moving to other side of the dungeon.

But overall I really liked your game!

I loved the art style, especially the hand drawn textures on walls

Nice take on the ancient ruins theme, the sprites, textures and audio were very nice.  Completed all 5 levels and sealed my fate, although I had to play more strategically on the 5th level because them rooting squids and demon dogs nearly killed me a few times lol.  Quite a lengthy game for a jam game that only took a week to make.  Had fun experimenting with the crafting spell anvil, great potential for a fun dungeon crawler.  The difficulty curve with the levels was spot on also, nice work!

Really like the music and the graphics. The crafting spell is such a cool idea! However it crashed when I unlocked a bigger skill after 2 big levels. Too bad :c

The spell system was really awesome! What a really great ides. But I had a crash after a locked door in the second level, I lost so much progress :(
The single stepping was really tiring, so please add some constant movement and the game could use some light and shadows for the atmosphere. The graphic themself are great and the sprite animates top notch.

Hey really fun gameplay, one of the best art I've seen so far in this gamejam, kudos.
Had a issue thou, at some point in the second level the game crashed. But well this happens, nice game anyway!

Kudos on the custom magic mechanic, it was really fun trying out different combinations and seeing the different effects with the spells. The dungeon layout I think could be a bit consolidated, as I felt there were some empty, open areas that had little substance to them. Otherwise, I thought this was a great entry.

Looks and sounds great. The spellcrafting mechanic is very cool. Movement is very irritating because I have to keep hammering on a key to move - this is made worse because all the rooms a huge.
