Game's take on the theme
We decided to give the player the opportunity after each boss fight to exchange their characteristics, as well as to exchange weapons, but this must be done wisely, because you always not only get something, but also lose...

Ahaha, it's true, I saved it now. Sorry about that.

You can't dodge his melee attack with a dash. I ran with my back and shot at him, if I didn’t do this, the boss would endlessly run after me. Every time I rested my back against the wall, I received damage from him.

Its got that QUAKE FMS vibes. The boss was OP and just jumps all over you. Good job, these aren't my favorite graphics but I feel you were going for a vibe most likely 3.8/5 Great job!

A truly fantastic game,

It brings a sense of joy reminiscent of playing Quake.

 This project has great potential.

If Valheim was FPS shooter, it would be this game. I think you already know about difficulty stuff. Thankfully i am an epic gamer, so was managed to beat the game. For me only first boss seems unfair, his meele attack happens emediately, so you cant avoid it if foe touched you, small timer on hitbox appearing would solve the thing. I like FPS shooters and this game as well, it was fun, good job!

It's very difficult the game(at least for me), i didn't manage to defeat the first boss. The art its very consistent. And the music its good. I dont see bugs in the game. The thing with this game(for me) its that i dont see the moment when i can shoot him without be beaten like a punching bag xd. And in the first boss i cant see the exchange theme, I imagine that its after the first boss.

We wanted to create a truly dynamic and challenging game, the way a boss rush should be) Yes, after passing the boss, a machine appears with an exchange of characteristics, and a new weapon is also offered. Thanks for your feedback)

Can you public a video of how is beaten the boss? you have to be very good to pass boss and I'm really bad in videogames xd

It has been attached to the page for a long time)

Okay, thanks <insert like emote here>

That video makes it look very easy...

Damn, I suck at FPS games lol. I wasn’t able to get past the first boss unfortunately.

I think my biggest hurdle in this game is the literal hurdles in the boss room: I found it quite tough to navigate all the boxes and barrels in the room, which caused me to get stuck and get clobbered. Since the first boss seems to be all about kiting backwards, it feels like the boxes and barrels were meant to make the player more aware of their positioning. The problemfor me was, I couldn’t find a super legible pattern to the placement of the boxes/barrels, so it feels like either I’d have to memorize the positions of the items in the room so I could avoid them while running backwards, OR get kind of lucky by just spamming jump and moving backwards.

It’s neat that you can dash into the air, or reverse-dash when holding back and looking down. That tech helped me ALMOST beat the first boss a couple times.

Love the old-school FPS game feel and the art is awesome. The vibe of the game in general is great. Nice job!

Thank you very much, our team appreciates your feedback, I already wrote about the complexity in the responses to the comments below). Regarding the idea of orienting by boxes on which side of the location the player is located, you noticed this interestingly, perhaps this can help some)

Love the Quake vibes on graphics and the overall vibe. Firts boss looks like it's straight from Quake 1. I couldn't get past the first boss bcs it was indcredibly hard.  It moves very fast and hurls boulders at you. His attacks were impossible for me to dodge and to be honest i couldn't get much fun from it. I couldn't get to see the exchange screen since i couldn't beat the first boss, so i can't really judge that. Also you don't get feedback when you hit the boss and it doesn't feel like you shoot with a shotgun.

It's a very nice looking game overall but needs a lot of work on gameplay and gamefeel.

We think it's interesting to get to know bosses through unsuccessful fighting games, so that you can later learn their patterns, learn the location, so that you can defeat them in the future. There is identification when hit in the form of boss blood, but there is no recoil from the shot, only a slight shake of the camera, perhaps it would be more realistic, but it would make the game even more difficult.

Thank you very much for your feedback!

the game boss is somewhat wonky for me and the obstacles in game works in the bosses favor instead of the player's and for the first boss (ymir) is too tanky too, the game also could use some very short tutorial to help explain the game mechanics too. like the dash for example since the dash actually is directional dash depended on where you look.

while i know that its intentional for the game, the controls imo could do some rework since if you are in the end going to hold down that sprint.. might as well make it the base walkspeed and set the dash to shift and e to make it easier for the player to do the decisive move between getting hit or not.

the animations looks great, artstyle is neat, shooting animation and reload for the shotgun needs to be different like the revolver at least imo so i know that im not shooting.

Thanks for your feedback. Indeed, many write about the fact that we need to make the base speed the speed that we achieve with the help of sprint, and dash could already be assigned to Shift. As for a short guide on how to use certain mechanics, perhaps we will do something similar in the form of a description before starting the game. Thanks again for your feedback!)

The old-school shooter art style is very cool, and the boss and shooting animations look great. I found the dash pretty difficult to pull off, it would be more usable if you could dash to the side in a strafing manner. I also found the boss too tanky to defeat, though I am not the greatest at shooters. Overall, nice work!

fun game with interesting boomershooter-ish graphic the game overall feels quite polished. movement is nice and dash is a nice addition though a bit too short distanced bosses felt a little frustating to go against due to them having a gigantic health pool (plus i sucked at aiming ) i still cant go all the way because the rotten ymir keep beating my ass inside out on the duo fight but overall its a fun game

Nice polished game, i love the old school art style. I'm pretty bad at fps games-i couldn't beat the first boss no matter how hard i tried (yes i watched your video lol) The music was pretty nice too, but the control scheme was weird-and you could have an auto reload instead of trying to shoot but finding yourself reloading

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it! Perhaps for some people it will be more convenient to automatically load the next boss, and as for the difficulty of the bosses, this is normal for a boss rush, even correct, we think that it is interesting to get to know the boss through unsuccessful fighting games, in order to subsequently defeat them .

P.S.: Ymir is a good friend :D

Amazing visuals, the only problem that i have is that the melee attack was too fast, but the rest feels very polished

I feel like the giant melts through your health each time it hits yours, if it was slow that would be fine but the guy is a meat heat missile. The main menu, cinematic and overall presentation felt really polished and ready for prime time. I could not for the life of me figure out how to access the ability change.

(+1)

To access the stat exchange, after you have killed the boss, you need to go to the center of the arena and there will be a stat exchange machine. Thanks for the feedback, but I recommend that you also try to get a feel for the first boss, develop tactics for him, and then he can be easily defeated.

*coughing blood* I... *cough* I had an issue with difficulty it was...... *puking blood* too easy
but once.... *more blood* I found there was sprint... *intestines coming out of a "tiny" wound*  it was even easier. I very much liked that when you die (which I have done deliberately) the enemy would continue to beat you to dust.
I did find a minor bug(yea not only the super easy difficulty level *blood out of the eyes*) for some reason after the second boss every time I would continue to the next boss it would keep me in the boss room and I would have to go to the door to activate the fight.
overall 10/10 game

Nice game, it has a really high difficulty ceiling with how movement works. I enjoyed it, but it felt a bit too hard at times, because you really need to master the movement to play, otherwise you get beaten really, really fast. Still, I understand that's the kind of game this was trying to be, and it does well in that aspect. The music is amazing and gets you in the mood to keep playing because it goes really well with how fast-paced the game is, good job!

Thanks for feedback!!!

I'm gonna start with the negatives: The bosses feel like a mix bag to me, you rather constantly strafe the arena while running to shoot them or get killed sooner or later because the melee attacks happen instantly (a lot of this could have been worked around with a better arena design), weapons sometimes don't hit the enemies at all even having the cursor right on top of them and tbh I had no incentives to upgrade the dash at all...

With this said, the music really makes you want to keep playing (all bangers!), the weapons apart of the problem mentioned before feel good enough, player movement/speed was decent, grapically looks good and there is enough variation to play a few times to see how far you can get. There is a lot of improvements that could be done but for the time your team had this is a solid entry no doubt!!!

PD: Is there any links to the ost of the game or composer you had for the jam?? Would really like to give a follow :)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for the feedback. What you described with the weapon is not a mistake, each weapon has its own hit distance, which can be seen every time you change weapons between boss fights. It is also described on the game page! On the game's page, there is also a video that shows how to use dash effectively. In our game, you can use dash in any direction (from the floor, up, to any side, etc.) So dash can be very effective in defeating bosses.

Submitted (2 edits)

Oh yeah I saw it, thing is it would happen regardless sometimes (specially with the second boss), maybe it felt like it because there was no particles sometimes when I was hitting the boss. And again I don't doubt the dash can be useful if you use it properly everytime (sometimes used it to go on top of the first boss on my first run), but in my playthoughs it wasnt worth it to upgrade or use at all with the movement speed the player already haves. Glad my feedback was well recieved and I cant wait to see what you all do next ^^

A nice game, graphics were also nice and clever for a game jam. The game got too challenging sometimes but this game also had a lot of mechanics that shows a lot of work was put into this... Great game overall..... One of the very few games whose movements were ok.

Thank you, our team appreciates your feedback:)
