That was amazing, I loved how the bosses second phase felt like such a natural continuation.

Developer(+2)

Thanks! I love bosses with multiple phases, so I’m glad you liked that.

Wow - very well done!  Loved the dialogue & cutscenes!

Thank you!

Great game! If I had one only thing to say, it's about the exchange of sword and magic. I feel like nothing in the game justify that much the exchange. Also, magic is mostly stronger than sword, so you just spam sword in the void until you get magic, which isn't something that you want to happen.

The bosses are great, I like that you have 2 phases with different mechanics. It keeps players engaged.

Well done!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I agree, there isn’t much incentive to actually use the sword. Technically the sword does about 50% more damage per hit, but magic is so much easier I can see why it would feel a bit meaningless to use the sword. Thank you for the feedback and for playing!

Wow dude, you have sooo good visual in your game!!! Well done for 1 month!

Strong entry, really fun game with cool theme) Very responsive controls, boss fights feels reasonably hard but honest, music is great. I don't know what to say more, it's a great small game and i love it)

Thank you, glad you liked it!

Really awesome game. I love seeing a fellow love2d submission. I read the devlog about 3d in love2d which was pretty crazy. The game had really fun boss design and I liked that I could pick between wasd and arrows. Amazing game.

Developer

Thank you! Great to see other love2d users on here. Glad you liked the game!

Amazing game, very well put together.

The web version was buggy for me, in terms of not expanding the screen when I toggle full-screen, but the game is very readable, so I didn't have that affect gameplay.

Charming art style with fitting music and sound effects, and super juicy with a lot of audio and visual feedback.

Controls feel on point.

Some hits I took felt unfair, but maybe that was because I was cutting it too close with dodging or too quick on the approach after the attack was finished.

I didn't really feel that the exchange mechanic affected the gameplay. Other than the range, there seems to be no difference between the staff and the sword.

All in all, had a fun time with it.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! The web fullscreen issue is a known issue. Did you run into any other bugs in the web version, or just the fullscreen thing?

The sword deals about 50% more damage than the staff, but yeah outside of that the exchange mechanic didn’t come out as meaningful as I wanted. Glad you had fun!

I really appreciate that this is the only game I have played so far that I have completed the whole way through. Thank you for being thoughtful in your design!

Developer

Thank you, glad you finished it!

Gandalf Simulator 10/10. The gameplay reminds me of death door

Developer

thanks! Death’s door was definitely one of my inspirations

My partner already commented but the game was so good I have to do it too. By far the best game I’ve played in this jam. Congratulations

Developer

Thanks a ton, I really appreciate it!

Wow, in all disciplines. I had a lot of fun. The exchange mechanic is simple but so good that you really consider what you're doing. Thank you for making it possible even for noobs like me to see all the bosses.

Thank you for playing and for the kind words!

Very nice, felt like a full game!

Hold my fucking tea, there is a piano in this game. That's a first for you I think? Oh and 3d. Pretty wacky if you ask me. Alright wall of text time.

So I was not expecting to have tears in my eyes during this jam, but here we are. I think I know where this story comes from, and it hits very close to home. Especially when that story is told by someone I've stuck around for a very long time. Fragment jam was more than 4 years ago you know. Having struggled my way through quite a few artforms at this point, I still feel terrible at all of them. To me the idea of battlescars as signs of strength is really encouraging, and I'll try to get that into my own head.

On a completely different note, designwise: the exchange mechanic is currently close to meaningless. I sometimes just bashed my way through the melee attacks just to get to fire off three of those guaranteed hit magical missiles. Tormentor X punisher did an interesting thing; to use your gooder weapon (pew pew pew) you have to get a kill with the shotgut (kaboom, shitty range) so you were constantly switching between the weapons. Maybe something along the lines of that could have been slipped in, to make the gameplay more intentional. Honestly button mashing was the best method to deal damage, which wasn't that massively fun.

Dodging attacks though? Hella fun. The attacks are paced just right so you have time to slip out of their reach before they get you. Overall this is kind of a slow moving game (as slow as these kinda games get), and I liked how the slower pace got me out of jumping around like a lizard to actually observing and using my frontal lobe to get out of the way of the attacks. From my perspective, this game (like most of yours) is ultimately about dodging, and the dodging was really fun.

The game has a bit of first time jank. Fullscreening the game doesn't scale it up so you have to zoom in to get it right, animations are a bit clunky, colors are a bit all over the place. Considering you wrote the bones thing for animation, and just figured out how to 3d in general, I think this is fantastic. The camera switch when you finally get a boss? Made me smile like an idiot. I don't know if you are planning on doing more 3d things, but it's definitely an interesting direction, and I'm intrigued by what you will cook up with that.

Also pico8 fonts for the win.

Awesome work!

Definitely been a while since I’ve used my own piano playing in a game. The last time I did it was for a ludum dare many years ago. I’m happy with how it turned out here, though it kind of happened by necessity (the original non-piano version of the track just wasn’t working for me).

The swap mechanic came out pretty meh, I agree. I think I could have done something more hyper-light-drifter-like where you build up MP with sword slashes and then expend MP to fire the little magic missiles, or some kind of special magic attack, but such is hindsight.

Glad you liked you liked the defensive parts of the game, that’s usually where most of my time goes as far as boss designs go. Hahah I thought the camera switch on boss kills would feel a little cheesy, but all my friends who’ve played the game went “whoaaah” the first time it happened so I’m glad to hear you liked it.

I might keep doing 3D stuff for a while, I really like it so far.

I’m glad we’ve been following each other’s work for the last few years. It’s been really cool to see the different things you’ve made over the years, and to see your comments on my games every now and then. I’m also really happy the message of the game meant something to you. That made my day.

Thank you for playing!

Very funny and very stylish game! It reminds me a bit of Furi.

One addition I think would be to allow you to use A as well as X to attack, since there is such a large gap between B and X.

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! Furi is definitely a big inspiration for me.

I LOVED this game! Incredible polish, especially transitions between scenes, the feeling of the text showing up, boss difficulty ramping up over time, absolutely incredible. I'm very impressed, amazing job.

Been following your work even before this game jam and I love this game entry!

Love the game, very polished, and the story its awesome, boss fights very balanced, music suits the game. I would point out one small thing and that is that the game cannot be played in fullscreen. Overall Great job!

Developer

Unfortunately the web version fullscreen is indeed broken, sorry about that! I’ll try to fix that post-jam. Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed the game!

Flawless entry !
I wished dodge would cancel attack animation but that the only thing I could think of
